  1. I read the posts and I wonder what the heck are people watching. Doing a little research I found that Arkansas-Pine Bluff lost a game to Michigan State two weeks ago. The score? 76-44. That number sound familiar? It should. The Zips just defeated A-PB 76-46. There are more similarities. Like Akron, Michigan State had too many turnovers. Wonder if A-PB's attacking style had some influence on that stat? Like Akron, Michigan State played their starters about twenty minutes. The only way to get new players skill improvements is by playing them. So, we play through and live with their fluffs. Some will get better and a few will be gone. It is up to the player to develop to the level expected. Akron plays four freshman. They stumble. Why did no one mention that Reggie McAdams finally had a break out game? How quickly fans forget that Jake Kretzer saved the Zips bacon against Middle Tennessee by nailing two important threes in overtime to seal the victory? Sit back and enjoy the season. You all know how KD builds his team to peak at tournament time.
  2. Jonas is clueless about defense. He is getting better in practice and will contribute. It is nice to have a six-eight walk-on. He sure helps the "bigs" develop.
  3. Let us give credit where credit is due. Jodi Kest's Lady Zips are a far cry from where she started with this team. While it is true that they are not a Top Twenty-Five program; they are not the dregs of the MAC any longer. They about the fourth or fifth best team in the MAC. There is still a long way to go. They will get there if we as fans support and encourage them. On paper, Cincinnati should have waxed the Lady Zips. They did not. They got their butts handed to them. It was a nice "beat down" as you crowed. Dayton is truly one of the top women's teams. They were bigger, taller and stronger than our gals. They, however, did not out hustle or out work our gals. Hats off to the hard working Lady Zips and the coaching staff.
  4. I have to agree with your comments. All Zips athletic programs deserve our unflagging support. I attended the women's game this past Saturday. They blistered Cincinnati from the opening tip. Great job, Ladies. Tuesday is gut check time for the Lady Zips as the Dayton Flyers (10-0 and ranked) come in. It is well worth any Zips fan's time to head for the JAR to support the Lady Zips. This is their Creighton game. Dayton has already dispatched Toledo (79-76), the MAC favorite. I believe that the degree of separation among the top MAC schools is minimal. No one has "blown out" our Ladies this year. Akron has a real chance of winning; especially if many Zips fans come early to the men's game and lend their support.
  5. Found this article than mentions Isaiah Johnson in a most flattering manner. Isaiah Johnson Update
  6. YES...!!!! The Zips back in the late 1940's defeated then number one ranked Duquesne on the road. Whitey Wahl played on that team and was justifiably proud of that win.
  7. Quote from tripledoubleprospects.com: "Bottom Line: Flashy playmaking PG needs to learn the fine points of the game and add some bulk but he has a world of talent and the heart to be an impact player. " If he were a shooting guard he would be relegated to low major status. However, as a point guard he might be a candidate for a mid-major. His game has to be more than good shooting. Can he "see" the floor? Can he distribute the ball? Can he play lock down defense? And, just as important; how good are his grades? He certainly looks like one to keep an eye on at this time.
  8. It would seem that the wiser thing to do is get a carload of friends and make the three hour drive to Detroit. Includes an easy stop at Tony Packo's right off of I-275 when passing through TwoLeeDew. While Callahan Hall is in a really rough (and I mean a really rough) section of MoTown, their parking lot is fenced in and guarded. Callahan has several exhibits of U of D's excellent history through out the building such as Bill Lambier's size 24 shoes, Dicky Vitale's first hair piece and other mementos.
  9. The student attendance problem is easy to solve. Give each student who shows an ID card a FREE Ohio State tee shirt. In future games give free Michigan, Kentucky, Alabama, Florida, etc. tee shirts, watch caps, scarves, etc. Student attendance will sky rocket. Sheeple fed a diet of crap their entire lives are wont to change their stripes.
  10. Blue Raider Post Game An interesting set of comments made post game by MTSU coach and by their star player.
  11. Have to agree. This dribble out the clock strategy comes from the coach. The Zips used the same weak ploy when Steve Menees was on the point. Dribble until desperation time then loft a bad, off balance shot. Bad strategy; fails every time. The point guard's job is to distribute the ball. His assist on a winning basket is far more valuable than an "oh shit". Get the ball to the shooter with more than "point five" on the clock. Give the shooter a chance to square up and even possibly dish to an open man. Another thing that irritates me is having the shortest man on the court in bounding the ball. The point guard is suppose to be the best ball handler. Put him out on the floor and let him run the offense. Put a forward on the in bound. Some one tall enough to see what is front of him. Grrrrr.
  12. UCLA is currently closing the gap. One tenth of a percent every 30 minutes. Time to vote is now.
  13. All the talk of how we love and support our futbolers. Well, where the heck is it? UCLA is closing the gap real Zips fans built this morning. They are on the verge of over taking Scott. Ticks me off. I have been voting for hours as have a few other real Zips fans. Take an hour and vote over and over to give Scott a cushion. If UCLA gets a lead this evening it is not likely that it can be over come. VOTE NOW ... !!!!!
  14. VOTE Zipsnation. This is the last day. UCLA is busy right now (Monday noontime) trying to put their candidate back in the lead. Vote multiple times. We owe Scott and the soccer team.
  15. Looked to me like the referee and the AR's were part of the problem The referee took every opportunity to award a free kick to Michigan in the second half. Plus the horrible body slam by the UM player along the side line and no call. The AR was right there. Just how does a player get slammed out of bounds, knocked to the ground and no call? Creighton might want to insist on that same officiating crew. They were as crooked as the crew that officiated the California game a couple of years ago.
  16. If KD has his way Quincy will be back in a Zips, uniform next season.
  17. Clear your Internet browser and vote again, and clear and vote, etc. ME87 makes me feel like a piker. I was proud of myself for voting maybe twenty times a day. Have to do better than that. You know those beach bums are toasting themselves at Venice Beach while they vote using their laptops and other gadgets. VOTE, dadgumit, VOTE.
  18. We have a serious battle on our hands. The beach bums of UCLA seem determined to have their boy win. Let's kick sand in their faces and bring home Scott Caldwell as the people's choice. We have the AK-Rowdies; now do your thing. Vote Here
  19. It seems that in all likelihood that Josh Egner is transferring at the end of the semester. Rumor has it that he is going to Mount Union. I like Z.I.P.s idea of out sourcing former Zips to Chaminade.
  20. Scott Caldwell is about to be over taken by Ryan Hollsomething from UCLA. Scott has 21.7 and Ryan has 21.5 up from 18.1 yesterday morning. Vote, vote, vote.
  21. I am with you. I have great friends who live in a Providence suburb and are PC fans. I will be there over Thanksgiving and hope to watch the Lady Zips play PC next Saturday.
  22. Dr. Z, notice how some fans continually call for the Zips to upgrade their home schedule. Then you see Akron "trash" a decent opponent by 19 points on a neutral court. And the bleeters still don't get the fact that that could be their team getting waxed at Akron. And, I agree with you. All the person needs to do is write to the AD using the provided format found on GoZips.com. Mid-majors and high majors have ZERO interest in getting their brains beat out, home or away. Scheduling is darn tough.
  23. Oklahoma State leads Tennessee 30-19 at the half. Gosh, perhaps the Zips are not so bad after all. sic
  24. per his Twitter acct. BJ Gladden has signed his LOI today. LOI All four players signed. KD and staff have cause to celebrate. This is a talented group. What separates the Zips from the rest of the MAC is that for the past three-four years the Zips have been signing talent ranked at a level above the MAC. This along with Akron's outstanding coaching staff is moving akron to that tier we have long dreamed of. That is, the Gonzaga of the East. Its getting there.
