  1. Actually I posted early Saturday morning that Akron would play OSU in the NIT in Columbus if the Zips lost. Poster LZIP made fun of my post and used an old post he/she/it offended with some time ago. Then this same poster states after the loss that he/she/it read the same prediction from an unknown source. Lame. Unlike he/she/it I actually had a REAL source. Source available in private only with any administrator.
  2. Bingo ... !!!!
  3. Hello, To answer your question about bringing in outside help. Coach Dambrot is close friends with a number of coaches. Shaka Smart of Texas is a former assistant at Akron. Shaka is a KD confidant. You can rest assured that KD talks to Shaka and several others on a regular basis. A lot of information is shared. Please do not ask for details. I am not privy to most of the conversations.

  4. With a bit of tinkering this could be an excellent tee shirt for our NIT run. AKRON RPI - 36 NIT Wichita St. RPI - 51 NCAA Michigan RPI - 58 NCAA Vanderbilt RPI - 60 NCAA Tulsa RPI - 61 NCAA Temple RPI - 63 NCAA Syracuse RPI - 68 NCAA
  5. Okay, which coach would YOU replace? Actually since most fans have no idea of what any of the coaches do please give us some insight to who YOU think is the weak link. In my eyes (and I am at every practice), all the coaches do outstanding work. They all go above and beyond; there are no slackers. Any one of them could find a job at a higher level program right now. A few years back an assistant left for Ohio State while another departed for Wisconsin. Personally I would rather KEEP all of the assistants. Akron is blessed with excellent coaching talent. But, who am I? I have opinions and they are not for public scrutiny. Coach STAYS. He earned it.
  6. Saw the play reviewed on TV. It was a clean Ally-oop
  7. ROFLMAO Its all about putting butts in the tournament seats. No one, and I mean no one on the selection committee gives a damn about who you beat. Follow the money. Power Five schools dominate because that is where the money is. That is why you could see a P5 team that got waxed in OOC play and finish 8-10 in conference get a bid over a 26-8 MAC team that lost the MAC championship game. Change the rules so that P5 conferences are limited to FIVE bids and watch the shenanigans disappear. No more schlock <gag> Michigan RPI 179 beating an Indiana RPI 5 in a Pig Ten post season tournament. Once P5 schools have to compete instead of a wink and a hand shake, you will see REAL post season basketball. Groce would be updating his resume instead of basking in a victory <choke> over Iowa. P5 schools learned the hard way to not let the Butler's, VCU's and others get deep in the tourney. Simply do not schedule the Akron's and Iona's, Keep the two tier system and keep the money in the P5 world. p.s. Heard from a reliable source that if the Zips lose the MAC championship game their next game is a loss in Columbus. Book it, Danno. (from the hit TV series Hawai'i 5-0 of past generations) p.s.s I do not give a damn about what Michigan or Indiana's RPI are. I made those numbers up. Sorry, wonks, pee down your other leg.
  8. You mean like First Team All MAC and Sixth Man of the Year Isaiah Johnson?
  9. Obviously you have not seen the double technical levied on John Calipari at the start of the Kentucky vs. South Carolina game last night. Keith Dambrot is an outstanding coach who possesses a deep love for his team. What do you know about staying under control? You claim you were once a coach. It is no wonder why you are no longer coaching. I will match Calipari's coaching resume against yours any time. btw. I'm just a young kid of 72+
  10. TV wonk stated that six of Arkansas ten loses were by three points or less. Zips won 88-80. Zips in rare company. Good win for the Razorbacks tonight.
  11. I agree. I was quite impressed by the referees refusing to call arm-bar fouls on Eastern. EMU also employed the reach-in and unfoul tactic to great success. This does not happen if officials call a fair game. Made me think of my old much missed friend Phil McKnight Sr. God rest his blessed soul.
  12. Time to end all the BS about "cupcakes". Youngstown State just upset Oakland 100-98. You remember Oakland. The Golden Grizzlies scared the living dodo out of all number one ranked Michigan State Spartans by taking Izzo's boys into overtime before losing on national TV. Those same cupcakes just lost AT HOME to another cupcake, Youngstown State. There are no cupcakes.
  13. The last five minutes of the game was a peek into the future. And, brother if you did not like that show you are no Zips fan. We saw the Nigerian connection going full tilt along with Jimond Ivey. They were too quick and way to talented for the tired Malone players. Unfortunately, this will probably be the only playing time these kids will see this year. BUT, the future is rosy. Mundo (Jimond Ivey) showed he could run the point. Mundo is NOT being red shirted. He will play a lot. The Zips are talented, experienced and deep. So, let us trade their worst year for a future best year. Personally I enjoyed the Freshmen performance at the end of the game most of all.
  14. "Lito" is a walk-on who came up through the system. i.e. He spent a year as a manager before getting the opportunity to be a practice player. He shot a great three ball that had the entire bench buzzing. Lito is a player favorite; and, mine as well.
  15. Yes. WARF 1350 AM starting a 6:30 pre-game show.
  16. Far and away the most accurate assessment of the likely line up. A couple of considerations; Noah is not ready to play a starter role. He may see some spot minutes although there is no guarantee. Jake has a bad back which will limit his playing time. Aaron needs to think like a "four" man to get minutes. Love the kid and he has great hops, but, he is not needed at the shooting guard. Save the "Nigerians" for the future. Trade their worst year for their best year. The Zips are deep and talented. Proper time management and the Zips will prosper for years to come. 2015 is a great recruiting class, to boot.
  17. There is quite a lot more to the upgrade than a coat of paint. The current upper tier chair backs will be moved to the other side. New chair backs in the north end to form a student section complete with a concession stand. The west side will get new chair backs rising higher and covering half the track which will be eliminated. The center scoreboard will be replaced with a modern all graphic design. Two corners will get data scoreboards with game statistics such as player stats. team stats, etc. The south end will get the most attention. The south end will be gutted and replaced with an extended Tommy Evans lounge with seating facing the court. Tommy Evans will get upgraded food services and entry will be by large donation same as now. At court level there will be an atrium that runs up through the new lounge. There will be chair back seating. The expected capacity is approximately 5,000. Some external face lifting will give the JAR more of an arena atmosphere. Plans exist. I was given a thirty second tour of the plans so I may not be 100% accurate. This modernization is a five to seven year stop gap to buy time for raising funds to build a new ARENA.
  18. Its not on the Freshmen. Trust me on this.
  19. The Zips were visited today by another favorite coach, Mike Meneer. Looks like the word is out about these slow, under achieving hundred-thirty-third Zips. Darn good thing I wasn't drinking milk when I saw that post or it would have come out my nose.
  20. One hundred thirty-third, really? Excellent locker room bulletin board material. No one should be afraid of the puny, under sized, slow Zips. This is going to be a fun year for these under achieving, milk toasts.
  21. Yesterday I reported that we had the pleasure of a visit from former Akron player Brian Walsh. Today we had the good fortune of Romeo Travis. Rome is a good friend and a pleasure to get one of his bear hugs. Man oh man has he grown. I would put Rome at six-nine plus. Rome was accompanied by another former St.V-St. M standout ... LeBron James. Romeo has recently returned from a stint playing in the Philippines. He really enjoyed Manila. He hopes to return to play in the islands again. The Zips put on a spirited scrimmage for their visitors. You are going to enjoy this season.
  22. The Zips had welcomed and esteemed guest at practice today. Former Akron player and grad assistant, Brian Walsh. Brian is currently an assistant men's basketball coach at the University of Dayton. When asked about a possible home-n-home match up between the Zips and the Flyers Brian replied that such a series is "lose-lose" for the Flyers. In his words. "Akron is much too dangerous. And, the Flyers nearly lost both previous games against Akron." Teasingly I offered to "throw in" a men's exhibition soccer match at Akron. No dice. While Dayton has a nice men's soccer program they are no match for the Zips.
  23. The chart needs an update. Craig Eubanks is a JUCO transfer who will have two years eligibility starting next season. Craig is in school and practicing with the team. Craig was a high school team mate of Jimond Ivey.
  24. I can confirm that Hilltopper not only has good inside contact with the coaching staff, he also posts factual information. The coaches are not even allowed to comment on the verbal. Micheal is an improved version of Tree. To say that the coaches are pleased with this commit is an under statement. Micheal is a man both physically and maturity wise. He is one tough competitor and will benifit from college level coaching. The Zips have once again restocked with quality talent.
