  1. I'd be surprised if you didn't still get the tax write-off. It's still a gift to the U, right?
  2. It's not me, but many folks are probably close to the $2000 level and this will push them over. If this is the brainchild of the new development guy, it's great to see.
  3. The football team walks half a mile? Try half a block, if I'm picturing it correctly.
  4. Good post. I have some thoughts. First off, I don't know the words to our fight song. I don't think I know anyone who does. I got no answers to this one. Second, they'd better be gold sweatshirts as well as gold shirts. It's COLD in November.
  5. Perhaps he has not heard of Ben Roethlisberger. That's just an ignorant comment and speaks more about his lack of knowledge than anything else.
  6. I watch that station and saw that interview. Why they sent that woman out to conduct it is beyond me. You are correct that she was an idiot. I am sad to see local news go....again. I think tonight is the last night for the Pax23 news. I got really sick of watching Cleveland news every night before.
  7. I think we all need to remember that mnhouse has some "in" at the athletic department - student worker there or something? To date my impression has been his posts have been accurate. I don't expect him to give up his sources on this board, but when he sets a matter (or sometimes me) straight I appreciate it.
  8. Men's soccer at Akron is nationally ranked every year. It is by far our most successful sport. More kids are playing soccer than baseball. More fans go to college soccer games than baseball games. Your perception is just incorrect on this. In the pros, you're right, but in college athletics, you're off.
  9. DH knows the game, though. Just not a good head coach, imho. He'd do great under somebody else.
  10. I'd get a nice, leisurely master's degree.
  11. I could be wrong about this, but I'm pretty sure Thomas didn't hire the women's soccer coach. I think he inherited her, but just barely. Women's bb was his first hire, right?
  12. Volleyball is almost always pretty successful. Baseball just advanced to the MAC tournament for the first time in years. If I am correct, Thomas has hired women's basketball, football, men's basketball, and softball. Any others?
  13. Sorry if this was already posted: http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/story/3594972 I'm just not sure about the six wins...
  14. I gotta say, this sounds like a good time, although it is a change. UAM usually does everything first rate. http://gozips.collegesports.com/sports/m-f.../050605aag.html Gozips.com also has information on the road trips with the Zips posted.

  16. And I keep forgetting our HC is probably the best WR coach in the country. Maybe that had something to do with Jabari's decision. Arthur is just such an athlete - maybe JD can turn him into another Larry Fitzgerald.
  17. Follow along. We're talking about Borecci. And I should have said, "I am surprised..." Sorry.
  18. Captain, it means Charlie had to run for his life. No offense to the guy, but being Akron's best OL man probably means absolutely squat for a pro team. Maybe I'm wrong - it only takes one or two holes to cause trouble for a QB, but I'd be surprised if any of our OL got a shot.
  19. And that means ????
  20. All the Owens stuff cracked me up. You were leaving no matter what, yeah Right! I'm sure he's sitting there in Ashland thinking JD stole HIS Coach of the Year award.
  21. Worry not about the distance, Derrick. DC is a relatively short 5.5-6 hour drive from here, all interstate, half a days drive with stops. Cake walk. You're gonna love the U of A. Welcome to the Zips.
  22. Move down a little for a big chunk of talk about Charlie. http://www.denverbroncos.com/page.php?id=334&storyID=3980
  23. In principle I agree with you - look how far we've come in football and basketball in one year. Three years ago I would have gladly traded places with where we are today. But it is without a doubt frustrating to be on the cusp and not get over that edge. Still, maybe you have to spend a year right where we are - it's not like we really deserved a bowl bid in football and as KD has said we lost key games that would have changed direction for us for post-season play. But both teams have made great progress. JD just brought in a number one or two recruiting class in the MAC - I can't remember that ever happening - but we still will still struggle this fall as a young team, imho. And I do believe we will be a perennial threat in men's bb in the MAC - no one will ever take us lightly again, as least as long as KD is here.
  24. Rain away, GP. You're just standing in the rain getting wet, though. I've watched Preston for three years. This year was the first time I had any hope for the kid to develop, and he got better as the season wore on. Overall he definitely improved on the boards, although I'll say again he could have done much better yesterday. He seems to be thriving under the KD system. I have no reason to believe that trend will suddenly just cease and he will stagnate from here on out; in fact, all indications are wholly otherwise. It will do no good to complain about McFadden missing free throws. The guy almost couldn't miss all season, saved us on more than one occasion in the final seconds of games, and you want to rag on the guy? Not me. Thanks, Rick, for the great season. You were fun to watch. Also, GP1, your facts are off. We lost to WMU on the road in the only regular season meeting between the two teams.
  25. I noticed the same thing as the year progressed, although I thought he could have rebounded much better last night. I think he was the most improved player, overall, on the team, and seems to do well under KD. Besides more meat on his bones over the summer, he needs to get MAD out there! He looks like a nice kid - maybe too nice?? I think Preston has the opportunity to really develop into a PLAYER and make big things happen next year.
