Just curious how old you are? Every generation thinks the younger generation is "stupid, lazy, blasphemous, hooligans that don't know their a$$ from a whole in the ground." Some of that comes from not understanding the technology of the younger generation, some of it is from being set in your ways. Youth culture for some reason scares the older generations. Not sure at what age people start thinking that the generation beneath them is off kilter, but it always happens. With that said, the younger generation always thinks the older generation is out of touch, know-nothings, that have ruined their chance a decent life through their actions and greed. They also think the older generation is bent on ruining their lives and their chances to have fun. Most of that is from not having life experience and fully developed brains. Unfortunately for the older generations, they are finally right. This younger generation is a bunch of entitled, lazy, stupid, blasphemous hooligans that are going to be nothing but a nuisance to anyone. I blame the generation before me for not smacking their kids like they should have.

Well, here is the deal with that. If I want to buy something in the jersey area, I don't want the generic version of it. I think most people are like that. Why spend $40-50 on a cheap un-authentic version of something. Since we have never offered the real thing (except when we were closing the Rubber Bowl and dumped a ton of the old real jerseys on people which sold out in minutes) we don't know how well they would sell. The problem is asking the right people, Barnes & Noble unfortunately handles our Zips merchandise. So they get the request of the AD but corporate probably doesn't see fit to do it. It took me 10 e-mails and 3 phone calls to get the Akron Fathead to be available. But I can't make any ground on authentic jerseys.

No Buchtel will face out towards Central and then there will be be 2 Proenza statues. The first will be behind Buchtel Hall in Coleman Commons. The second will stradle Can't State, slightly squated making a "cup of tea" if you will, and be visible from the University of Akron campus.

A JAR overhaul will be exceptionally complex. say we make permanent seating in the hole facility. Now there are no areas to practice. OK, one court to practice on. Unlike now where when all seats are pulled back you have plenty of practice area. That is why I am of the opinion that a JAR rennovation isn't an option. As for cost. Say it's a $50 million rennovation to make it a 5000 seat venue with a lounge area that can view the game. You now have to find practice and play space for volleyball, and men's/women's basketball. Plus it would take at least a year to two years. So now you have to lease a place to play. No place in Akron to house it. Maybe Firestone, you cut attendance in half and it isn't what you would call collegiate friendly. Lost revenue. I highly doubt the JAR will ever be torn down. It will likely be turned into the Athletic center and be a joint practice/academic/administrative building. Because that kind of renno is in the $5-10 million range.

Neither do any of us, as we no longer have a coach so horrible that recruits run to the likes of you or Can't to get away from him.

Because it's expensive. You are stuck there. And it's extremely difficult for family to watch you play (thousands of dollars out of pocket to attend a home game for east coast families). Plus you are talking about 17-18 yr olds making the choice with huge influence from hover parents. Every mainlander I've talked to that has been to Hawai'i as a 'change of life' has wanted nothing more than to go home because they didn't realize the importance of freedom of movement until they were stuck on the islands. The right kind of job changes that some, but for most people it's expensive and cramped.

Which is more of a college coach then Faust, who was a High School coach with High School ideas. I like Faust, I went to one of his football camps when I was in high school. But don't pull out coaching level. His plan failed at Notre Dame and was very average here and prior to Notre Dame he only had Moeller as experience.

Have you actually looked at the facility as a whole. It is a hole, i'm sorry. Our team deserved better than that, the fans deserve better than that. It can get turned into a great training center, but it will never, ever be a great arena.

You can't win championships without good players. You can win games with anyone. We aren't as bad off as you guys think we are from a talent perspective. The blowouts at the end of the season were a result of the players giving up on Ianello. That is the primary reason he was canned. Every one of those players wanted him out. What we got was the result of players quitting.

Again, a new Arena is central part of the University Park master plan. University Park Association is a conglomerate of the three hospitals (Summa, General, Children's), the City, GOJO, Advanced Elastomer, Downtown Akron Partnership, and The University of Akron. The Arena is one of the 4 "anchor" projects to the Master Plan that has an international investment firm attached to it. The same firm that helped get funding for the Giants new baseball stadium, the Link, and several marina/aquarium projects. However, because the University is a state institution, it cannot just greenlight projects or sign on to anything that costs millions of dollars without due dillegence studies. Current RFP for the JAR rennovation is to show how costly it would be to improve the arena to the point of meeting fan needs. This means there is no financially reasonable alternative to add luxury suites, club seats etc. to the JAR. The JAR isn't going anyway, part of the RFP called for alternative uses to the site. Namely a volleyball arena and basketball practice facility. It is my opinion, that there will be a downtown Arena built using the same methods as the newest dormitory. A private partner will foot the bill and lease it back to the university/city/county. This prevents a debt burden on any government agency, and ultimately allows the builder to get less costly financing because lenders know who the tenants will be. Also you will all have to grow accustomed to an arena that can house hockey/arena football, because they will have to build something that can be used for everything to get the biggest bang for their bucks. You can't effectively move 3000 people around in the JAR, let alone a sell out. Whoever engineered the JAR needs to be beaten and ridiculed. The reason people don't go to games there is because most people have experience with it and realize that even 2000 fans moving in and out of that gym (gym not arena) is a complete cluster F. I forgot how awful that joint was until I went to the VCU game.

Lighting a fire under poor talent is the difference between beating the Saints and Pats in consecutive weeks by large margins and never sniffing that kind of win a year later. We don't have BCS busting talent on our roster like NIU or Toledo, but we have enough talent to help have a mediocre season next year with the coaching we have. The first thing Bowden is going to do is make sure his guys have confidence in themselves. The next thing is having confidence in each other. Then he will give them a reason to believe they can win. And hopefully proof of that belief comes within the first two weeks.

Interesting, article says he will study Statistics in graduate school. Akron has a Masters Degree program in Statistics.

The city, the university, and... who? [edit]: Let me answer my own question. Summit County? If this is the case, there will be three different groups of government employees who want the arena. That worries me to no end. UofA should wait until they can do it on their own. University Park. A private group built on improving the area. But yes the county wants it also.
