Downtown Arena might not be such a good idea
g-mann17 replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
From their closest quad it is a 1.5 mile walk (if the sidewalk infrastructure is there)For us from the farthest quad away it is half that distance. (to the theoretical proposed site) -

Might as well claim it before Minnestoa re-claims it.

That's all the benefit they need. The Big Ten Network is a hugely profitable venture. Add in that the International Bowl would switch to the Big Ten instead of the MAC. Buffalo could pull in Toronto, with their huge media market.Toronto is not going to care about US College football, there is no cross country play in any sport. There are three major school the Big 10 cares about and they are Rutgers, West Virginia, and V Tech. The Big 10 is going to try and cherry pick a team just like the ACC did. They certainly aren't going to go after a MAC school that has one good year.Rutgers wants in for two reasons, 1 they get a larger budget immediately. 2 their basketball program can actually compete.

We used to have wall-to-wall turf in our basement my first year on campus. There were giant piles of it when they redid the practice field so we took a few rolls. It ended up on our front porch for a couple of years after that.Nice...I wonder what they have planned for the Bowl?Wonder if the turf could be donated to the Akron Public Schools for installation at one of its football fields?Really not a bad idea, get the write off for the books for the value of the donation and positive press for helping out the area highschool.Ellet being the main stage for Friday night games, I say we donate it to them.Yes, a REALLY good idea. A tax exempt entity making a charitable contribution to capture a tax deduction. It's so big, it is almost impossible to calculate the tax benefit.Yep because I said "take a tax write off". No in the view of bond raters the stadium and turf are liabilities that we have on the books, a possession that has a value and a maintanence cost and therefore counts against what the University holds, whether we use the turf or keep it up or not it remains a liability on the books until we can dump it on someone else. I never mentioned anything about a tax benefit.Sorry for the misunderstanding. I have never heard the unique phrase "write off for the books" before, so I thought you were talking tax write off. As you point out, the Rubber Bowl is something the University owns, not owes, and is therefore on the books as an asset, not a liability. Maintenance costs are an expense and reduce revenue; expenses do not "count "against what the University holds" (i.e., assets). Gee, this accounting talk is fun.Ok, well you are correct there, but have you seen the Rubber Bowl? We can all agree that is one ugly asset that's value is greatly depreciated.

What's the most important issue that needs to be fixed?
g-mann17 replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
So let me get this straight. (exluding Can't State (a win), Ball St, and Temple) at what point in all the insane games we played, did an offensive mistake occur while we had the lead? EMU we had a double digit lead, let them into the game, BGSU same thing. Hmm had the lead against Cinci, lost the lead. Buffalo, the D couldn't even get one stop. Wisconsin, the most over matched we were the entire season. The O, a fumble and the D? was a siv except for a few Wisci mistakes. So Ohio? Couldn't get a single stop against them either. So for the record, BGSU, Loss, no defense when it counted, Ohio, no defense when it counted, Cinci, no defense when it counted, Buffalo, no defense when it counted. Hmmm four losses, common factor. NO DEFENSE.We were + 6 on turnover for the season, 28th in the nation. But they couldn't stop a pee wee team when it mattered. The D last year, and the year before, and the year before, and the year before and, you get the idea HAS BEEN THE PROBLEM, and has kept us from winning close games. Not offensive mistakes.Jacq had 10 interceptions in three games (BSU, Can't State, Temple), the rest of the season 9 games, he had 4. Throwing 10 int's in 3 games 1-2. Throwing 4 in 9 games 4-5. Somehow Jacq's 1 interception in the BGSU game counted for 23 points in the 4th quarter.Look I've said enough, is he the best? Best we have that is game ready yes. Is the 5-7 season his fault? Clearly not. -

"Pick Your Seats Day" - May 2009
g-mann17 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Are you implying a stadium expansion or that no one will care when we keep putting up 5-7 records every year?oh,oh here we go....The latter. If it wasn't for the stadium, I would be even less excited about this year than I was last year.....and that's not saying much. Then why even bother being on here? Sorry but I'm tired of this being the typical Akron fan... -
Lindy's has 3rd in the east behind BUGS and Buffalo University of Canada

The Info is perfectly fine. But can we talk about the Roo Zoo for a moment. Cute, Catchy, Gay? Seriously, a group of Kangaroos are typically referred to as a Mob.

You're picking late because you're an Ohio State fan. UA pushed back the seat selection date of all OSU fans. Buckzip's selection is set for July 19th, 2012 from what I understand. And his parking pass is for the Rubber Bowl. -
I am deeply moved, g-mann17. Abjectly hateful, yet rife with the exquisite nuance of high art.Thank you, Thank you Dear Historic Can'tReally are StautzenbergerNow, go to corner

On my way to class tonight I was driving up I-77 and right before the central interchange I noticed an addition to one of the signs. On the very top it said"INFOCISION STADIUM"It just feels good to know we getting so close to have real highway signage going up. It's the first I've seen.

"Pick Your Seats Day" - May 2009

No. They spread it out over a couple days. The earlier you donate and longer you've been a season ticket holder, the earlier your selection.6-10-09? Lee Adams must be a cheapskate? I just mean do you get an opprotunity to select a seat for whatever seating choice you bought i.e. reserved, general admission, priority reserved, family seating etc... or is select a seat only for those high rollers?Priority Reserved, Reserved and Family were supposed to be "select a seat" general admission is just that, get there early on game day for the best seats. You just save some dough by buying all six tickets at once. -

I'm right with Lee Owens myself 6-10. I think I figured out that they are staggering the selections every 5 minutes throughout the day. And they must be going until 8 or 9 pm each day so 156 to 168 people each day max. Based on a starting date of next Monday and 5 day week for selections. It's going to take them a month to get through 4500 season ticket holders. -
Does anyone have any updates on Payne????
g-mann17 replied to FromdaBurgh's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
If that's true... wow, there's a loophole you could drive a truck through. Man.Recruits talk to other recruits all the time, which also includes doing their own recruiting. Not a big deal.Sure, I get it.What I was referring to is how easy it might be for a coach or someone else to do some orchestrating from behind the scenes. That can't be legal, can it?I'm pretty sure it only becomes a problem once the recruit is a player and therefore a representative for the University. Until you have officially enrolled you are just a normal person with no affiliation. -

Heisman for Heismanand We want an off campus stadiumLOL awesome -
According to a current Zipline Poll at least 4500 students plan to attend at least 1 game. 1600 say they will attend all 6 games. It's very important that we get that number up to 6000 (20% of attendance). And even more important that we can get them to be at every game (that's up to the guys on the field though)
