First and only. This has the potential to grow into a major program. Especially with all the infrastructure issues we have in this country.

I'm still freaking out, big time. What I saw today has me concerned. The SE corner of the press box is getting torn apart. There's a pile of concrete rubble and chunks are getting torn out. There aren't even any floors or walls going in. It's just a big three-story hole that looks like it's being torn down instead of being built. No pictures?

Exactly, it actually causes more problems because you'll have more binge drinking off campus before and after the game. The probelm with half our moral issues in this country is that we think we have to baby everyone. I don't know when that started, probably with the dirty hippies in the 60's, but let's face it. Europe, Canada more responsible drinkers. Why, because they can legally drink younger than us. Don't show a boob on TV they'll get the wrong idea. Yep the wrong idea that you shouldn't repress desires to the point that you snap and turn into Ted Bundy or Jeffrey Dahmer. Also, why in the hell do we let the government have so much say on what we can and can't do? If I can drive and drink a cup coffee and text without impeding traffic or causing accidents why the hell should I get a ticket? Better ban walking and chewing gum then too.I never even planned to buy beer at the stadium, but I knew people would want to, so I was for it, if you'er that worried about the college kids getting it, than only sell it at 6 of the concession stands, and card people. It's not like it wasn't going to be watered down to the point of almost being O'Doul's anyway.

Board of Trustees Meeting June 17, 2009
g-mann17 replied to g-mann17's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Actually, he's full time and tenured. He's one of the best professors the university has, and they'd be more than foolish to even consider firing him(not that they would). You know, sometimes a little opposition is a healthy thing.I just assumed, I apologize.Though I would say 99% of the time, people hate who is in charge. That 1% we call them brown nosers. -
Yes - The Rumor Wheel Spin Landed on Houston
g-mann17 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Ahh, that is refreshing.Any coog fans still lurking, I told y'all we weren't that different. Also, I would hope that Mack at least makes 36% more than he does here. COL is 9% higher in Houston, so 36% would be a true 25% raise. -
The marketing department is still concerned about selling season tickets. You won't see a push for the home opener until about August 12th.

Board of Trustees Meeting June 17, 2009
g-mann17 replied to g-mann17's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
That'll be a first. I had a professor last spring who said he wouldn't mind watching Buchtel Hall be demolished...that is, if the administration is still inside and all the doors are locked. Of course Zipsnation loves Proenza, but we are surely in the minority among those affiliated with the university. And I bet that professor wasn't full time or tenured. As far as why I was interested, everything the University does have to be approved by the Trustees, and since Proenza had alluded to a $100 million gift from a company that had certain usage stipulations that would have to be approved by the board, I was kind of curious if they talked about it. -
NIU because they were my favorite team to use in NCAA Football (we had a league and you couldn't be a homer)Ohio because of it's history and it's the campus I've been the second most amount of time on.

Just wondering if anyone went to the meeting or watched the broadcast.

Actually I heard the SEC is cutting back on some things...Rely more heavily on public defenders in player drug cases. Use lower end luxury cars as recruiting incentives.Work out better take as you need deals with local clothiers. Change out tutors for just straight copies of the tests. That's all big money things right there.

It going to be a Concourse area that will contain rest rooms, concessions, souvenirs and tickets. After years of limited restrooms at the anicent Rubber Bowl. The more restrooms at info the better.Yes, thank you stadium FAQ. The concourse area is the concourse under the stands. I'm talking about inside the actual structure.

To the best of my knowledge, we still need a fourth OOC game. We bought out of the entire Kentucky contract. Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong. -
Downtown Arena might not be such a good idea
g-mann17 replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
Yeah what he meant by the comment is that University isn't just taking over downtown. Which it's not. It's a neighbor and part of downtown, even the University Park Alliance recognized the importance of developing around the central business district.By the way, there are only 2800 students that live in University residence halls "on campus" not 5000 like you claim. Spend sometime reading all the comments on the board and you'll see we had this discussion already.I said there are 3,000 to 4,000 students on campus and will soon be 5,000. 2800 students on campus? I think not, but it sure is more than 300 in a non-campus apartment complex. And I knew you'd put words in Proenza's mouth just like you do mine and others. It's what liars do. I have neighbors too but I don't call their property my property just because they are my neighbors. People make the romantic statement that UA is downtown. Even if that were true, it doesn't make downtown on campus. All poodles are dogs but not all dogs are poodles.Cincinnati has just over 3000 living on campus. So you should "think so". And more to the point is that we have 19000 undergrads and just under 25000 total students. Meaning the bulk of them live "off campus". But you will probably call them "pseudo students" as in false students. All I have said is open your mind. At one point the other side of Exchange was "off campus" at another point the other side of Union was "off campus". The entirety of the Greek Village is technically "off campus" though you propose that as a potential site. That is what happens with growth, borders get redefined. As for the Proenza comment, you took it out of context in the first place and I corrected you. The comment followed questions about the University buying Quaker Square hence "eating up downtown." Also as to your two sites, the parking lots and Greek Village. I want you to look at the size of the JAR, and then look at the size of the lot you suggested. It is much smaller than the JAR footprint, same as Memorial hall. As far the Greek Village area, you have several houses and proposed houses being built there, it is just bad for the school to kick all of those Fraternities and Sororties out of there. You talk about game day experience. The Greek Council has a huge impact on that, and running them out is not going to be beneficial to school. -

Seriously? Next you're going to tell me that Mill St. Isn't part of campus. But it's cool. There's just 2500 students that don't park in a campus parking deck everyday or go a campus building to attend classes on campus. Nope CBA and Polsky are completely off campus, just like EJ Thomas even though it's right across the street from it. And there's no important University things in those buildings, not like Bliss Institute or University of Akron Archives or anything.Seriously? You have to be just playing around with me, to see how I defend my opinion, that's got to be it right, you can't possibly be so dillusional to think I'm sitting here lieing, or trolling or whatever. But if not, I'm sure you'll be calling me a lieing troll trying to sell snake oil soon enoughAnyhow I... -

The MAC is just too big. I feel no connection with teams in Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana. The East division is what I consider to be the MAC. I could care less about a trip to ball state or western Michigan. That being said I like buffalo as a contender only. They are a decent program all around and the MAC is desperate for good programs.LOLThe MAC is Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana. And to say that is "too big" is really laughable. Look at the Big East. New Jersey to Florida to Kentucky. Big Ten stretches from Iowa to Minnesota to Pennsylvania. The Sunbelt even is a bigger geographical area than the MAC.Also NCAA requires 8 teams to be in a conference. Any less and you have to be "independents". Eventually they are going to require 12 teams per conference and require a conference championship game. (At the very least the BCS will require it. And that is where your shake up happens). Big Ten needs 1, their 1 will likely mean that the Big East will need 5. The PAC needs, I believe 2. Mostly i'm saying that one conference is going to die in the next 10 years.

Stadium for Humanity? Habitat for Football?I'll volunteer to paint some number and hang some sections signs, hell I'm willing to work on the video stuff too.

What are we using it for? Athletic offices? Hall of fame? (I like that idea) Just a large cavernous area with stair wells and elevator doors?

I went with Hunter, but that is assuming he is one of the top 3 after a bit of looking. It produces continuity in the department, and we would probably be able to retain some of the hard workers we have like Jeremiah Dickey.

I don't think anyone has mentioned a site that would be "ala the Rubber Bowl". Most sites have either been near Quaker (part of campus) or near Polsky/CBA. Anyone that doesn't feel that High and Broadway are part of campus should ask some of the business majors and MBA program members because we certainly feel like we are on campus. I don't think anyone has proposed a site that is over half a mile away from the Student Center. We aren't talking "lets build this thing by the Civic, of Childrens, or Akron General". It's always been, "let's build it by Polsky, CBA, or Quaker."I think Dambrot wants something he can show off, and I think he wants to know that he has a high quality training facility for his team. That is part of the reason the JAR will probably stay no matter what happens. The school will need the additional facility for sports programs. That is one of the major concerns with a new facility not being run by UA. The men's basketball team is the primary reason for the facility, and therefore should have first say on when they have it. But, like football, it's more convenient to have multiple training areas. The JAR is still a great court even if the fan experience is lacking.Again, I don't really care as long as it get's built, I just talk about what I feel is practical. And it's easier to sell naming rights if a company feels the entire community will support a project. We are not always going to luck out and have an alumni in charge at the company we ask for money. With naming rights and splitting the bonds three ways, the project becomes more feasible. -
Well then maybe we should work on an Alumni Association donation :-)(and yes I'm willing to work with any Alumni representative to get this done)
-
I like the Statue idea, but maybe as a "Roo" statue like two Roos some how built into the grass hill next to the endzone facility. I still think we need a Heisman statue on campus

Is there are a reason why you think we need new threads? Out dated design or something? What we have now is far from outdated. I personally think we should have a throwback (ala the snowbowl) and an alternate gold jersey with blue pants. But overall those are just "awesome we have extra" not "we really need this".
