  1. So you have an eleventy billion dollar house in Bath too?I don't know about him, but I try to squat there every time the Cavs are on the road lol....
  2. I think that is the most important thing right there. Is it an easy out to bitch about everything and not do anything? Yes. And the problem in our area (most of society) is that everyone is a "victim". I mean simply that if they have a problem it's someone else's fault. There are certain things that are uncontrollable, crime, losing a job etc. But if your neighborhood looks bad ask yourself, have you helped out the old couple across the street so they can fix things up? If there are kids constantly causing problems have you personally done anything about? Report it? Call the local police to help form a neighborhood watch? I by no means want this country to go back to the 30's-50's but there are certain things our grandparents did that made life a lot more tolerable (and don't let anyone fool you, crime was amazing at this time you just didn't have 1000's bloggers compaining about everytime it happened). The simple fact is you have to try and accomplish things. People up here complain about crime, but how much of that crime has personally affected them. You have tons of resources here for leisure, a National Park, tons of Metro Parks, the Tow Path. Get out and enjoy what is there and tell people about it. Most of the country thinks of Akron and thinks dried up bombed out rubber factories, Youngstown would be empty steel factories, Cleveland they picture a river on fire. If there is one thing that I am truly passion about (and yes the athletics are fun) its finding a way to get people to realize that this state is a great place. GP1, god bless him, blames the weather, if that were true Colorado, New England, Seattle, and Utah would all be a shit holes. People will put up with weather if they know they can get a job and their children can get a decent education. We have those things, unfortunately they are all shadowed by negativity, instead of praising what Western Reserve Academy, and Firestone's Baccaulaureate programs accomplish we talk about how East Cleveland can't get people who could give a crap less about school is performing. I'm just saying it's a lot better than people think and its time some people step up to sell it that way and improve it even more.
  3. Not to stop your early season smack talking. But, I'd like you to keep this mindPenn St 45Temple 3Temple 27Akron 6Penn St returns a lot of weapons on offense and I'd be careful about talking smack looking at that comparison from last season.Don't get all worked up. Every year some UA fans believe ... eventually we will win one of them. There I fixed that for you Buck.
  4. What benefit would that have? We basically have a Memphis situation right now as it is. Constantly win, so we constantly get our NCAA birth. Do you think it would have been a different story if we were in C-USA this year? A better seed? No it wouldn't have. We still would have had to given up home field advantage. Right now we almost have the benefits of playing as an independent. We only have 5 MAC opponents, we get to select the best schools to fill out the rest of the schedule but with all the benefits of conference affiliation. Championship and automatic bid. If the MAC schools manage to ditch the least expensive mens sport (shin guards, uniforms, and a ball) then that just gives us more reason to push for an entire sport conference switch.
  5. YES, the answer is YES. Be still my heart. While it is white, what is the rest of the color of it? It doesn't match the green?(I accept your sarcasm)
  6. The Perkins St area was something I thought the University could use for further expansion. Primarily medical research. But the city had bought up all that land for Fred Martin Chevy, so the chances of that...who knows with the current state of GM whether Fred Marting will need to expand or not now.Part of the Mill St lot is promised to the city (part of the Quaker deal). The Central Hower lot will not be availabe anytime soon. As much as the APS needs money, they are still considering it as a possible site for a STEM high school. It is based off of how the STEM middle school does. If I ran the school board, East would have been closed and combined with North, a new school would have been built over the football field, baseball field, and track. Central would have been sold off to the University. East and Goodyear would have been put on the auction block for developers. Now you wiped a ton operations costs off your budget. Plus income of several million dollars for the property you sold. They are being stupid by keeping open schools that they closed for other programs. "Gee I don't know why we have to lay off more teachers" probably because you spent 3 times the salary of 40 teachers operating buildings you don't need.Just because the Kaiser building is being renovated doesn't mean the area between it and the Mayflower isn't usable. The fact is, there is plenty of land between those two areas to build an arena.
  7. Best quote from the comments
  8. They were pre-painted, much like the steel for the upper deck. They resemble roller coaster support columns (i.e. cylindrical)
  9. There will be a video strip/ribbon running on the facing of east upper deck. Of course the main scoreboard in south end of stadium. And a small, auxilliary scoreboard in north endzone ( with score and clock only).Yes, but there was originally going to be a videoboard that faced out toward Exchange St. I never really heard that it was nixed like the tunnel or bridge.
  10. I would laugh hysterically if they put up some temporary, fake light poles.... just for good time's sakeill take your word for it that the color of the turf isnt as.... bland as it appears to be.What about 6 of these guys?Wacky waiving inflatable arm flailing tube man
  11. I'm a little shocked by the number of first row upper deck selectors there were. That was my number 1 and I don't get to pick until tomorrow evening. Also part of the deal of Summa getting an entire section to itself had better include that they have to fill every one of the seats in the section or they lose it.
  12. I remember hearing at one point that the there would be videoboards on both sides of the scoreboard. Has anyone heard anything during the tours to confirm this?
  13. Hmm, in 2005-2006 did anyone foresee any place other than the Rubber Bowl being football's home?
  14. So then the grass is greener?
  15. The beer sure did though They will just do a beer tent like we used to have if all else fails. It's revenue that needs to be generated.
  16. December 2005 is when Rhoades was hired, so you got your "over 3 years". Now, I agree with you about stability, but that stability (for us anyway) is only going to be there if we are Top 25 team year in and year out, that's not even guaranteed. AD's move because they can make more money, see a new challenge, or retire. That is why it is important that a certain vision for the athletic department exists and why you gain stability by trying to keep individuals around by promoting from within. For schools in our situation it is more important to develop within and promote. We went outside to get Mack mostly because the previous administration had gotten us to a point and we needed an outside perspective to push us farther. I still think that the athletic vision is driven by Proenza and the current board and they recognize the importance of national attention from athletics. I guess my point is that stability does exist because of dynamic vision by people who are more important than the AD. Like someone else posted it is more important that Proenza gets to pick the new AD then it is to keep Rhoades.
  17. Truthfully I think this going to be a similar situation as the Rutgers job. An independent firm looks for the best candidates for a University. Rhoades name is going to pop up. Now does he have slightly more interest in this job than the Rutgers one? Probably, he would be back in his home state. Is it his ideal choice? Probably not. Is he their ideal choice? He has experience with C-USA, he knows other programs, and he learned a few things on fundraising while he was here. My opinion, Houston goes with the Senior Assistant they have, and the majority of Zipsnation stays bent out of shape because someone thinks he can get better paying job somewhere near his birthplace and family. Yurachek and Dickey have pretty much been doing all the relations work as it is. So I am fine with them getting promoted when Rhoades leaves. But if you think he's half assing his responsibilities I doubt it. As long as he is trying to find another AD job, he had better be busting his ass otherwise he isn't going anywhere. Like I said last time, I would rather have and AD that is hungry to move up, than one that is complacent with what he has. It typically means more dramatic changes for the programs.
  18. The Board of Trustees has to decide that. From what I saw they have board meeting in June (which should include a lot of interesting things such as votes on accepting certain large contributions to the University). If they were going to vote on it, it would probably be this meeting, as the next isn't until school starts back up.
  19. exactly... what kind of crap is this? im not about to spend money on season tickets to get my scarf when i get in for free...Relax I'm sure they will be in the team shop.
  20. I did the tour today as well. It just has a much different feel to it then what the Rubber Bowl has. Besides the new-ness, it feels a little more intimate and a lot more professional. My wife and I took the walk from the North Campus deck (figuring that would be as likely a place as any for us to be assigned to park) and the walk feels quick and is definitely closer than where parked at the Rubber Bowl. The most amazing thing will be to see that stadium on a game day as you walk out between Buchtel Hall and the Student Center. The scene is pretty impressive without the stadium even being completed.
  21. Laying out 5 yard long rolls (at least they look to be) on the field
  22. http://www.gozips.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_...CRIBER_CONTENT=Free scarf with each season ticket purchase. One heck of a value. $50 for the season. 9 home games that include Indiana, OSU, Penn State, and Michigan St. (if the season tickets includ the invitational, I've never had soccer season tickets before)Check it out
  23. Buffalo - FootballMarshall - Football (they brought them back from the dead literally)It would be fairly easy to look at all 120 D-1 schools and come up with a list of schools that have had to cut sports to save money and brought them back when alumni and school attendance were able to support it.
