  1. I liked this comment from the SDU coach...“You show those stadiums to the kids, they just eat it up because they love playing in those places"Which stadium of ours did he show them? LOL
  2. John the other option is to find a job (I know tough in this economy) that offers tuition reimbursement, and ride that as much as possible.
  3. Santa must be real GP1. I asked for "monster hands" this Christmas, and look, we've got "monster hands".Seriously though Lee Owens er I mean Adams. At least wait until after the spring game to start with this years rendition of "win or he's gone". With all the beating that subject has taken from you I'm surprised the Dead Horse isn't waking up from his 2 month slumber.
  4. Though I am just a mediocre Zips fan, I say why settle. We technically are already successful and have a good chance of 20 wins with a ton of underclassmen. But why be the "wait until next year group" I say the MAC is wide open and we have the athletes. Real success is measured by winning championships lets start the tradition now.
  5. At least Gaffney realizes we aren't "veterans".
  6. It's more steal for the upper deck. The bleachers are likely to be one of the last things put in.
  7. From what I can gather, the 3-3-5 isn't going anywhere. Tonga is going to play the Rover position. That way they don't have to change the name of the scheme. Everybody wins.Hans Christian Andersen is calling it 'The Emperor's New Scheme.'From what I've heard they are looking at a 3-4.
  8. 230 pounds, and can't beat five seconds for 40 yards? Why did we offer him, exactly? Could have been his 25 inch vertical, or the fact that he's 230 and will probably put on 15-20 pounds. Which would make a decent strong side end.over 5 seconds is even slow for a DE. That is DT speed. at 230lbs he will need some serious weight.Honestly, many O-Linemen run around a 5.1-5.3. That's REALLY slow for a D end!Why are we constantly going after bottom rung 1 and 2 star players....getting the QB was nice, but we need more quality in our recruits. I saw we lost the three star DB back to Toledo, but grades were a question, but he had talent..From the last couple of years it is clear that we need more talent, one star DEs isn't going to progress this team...Yep, next year JD should just go after 3 star or better recruits. None of this going after people that just need some development time to be a contributor anymore. And if we only get 2-3 people recruited than that's good enough at least we had a high average in are star to recruit level.Seriously, do you think the coaching staff doesn't try? They just pick names? They obviously saw something in the kid they thought they could develop. It's very easy to bring someone who runs a 5 in the 40 and bring him down to a 4.7 or 4.6. Maybe his first move isn't quick, so he has a slow start. Maybe he has not developed into his frame yet, you never know. But until we our constantly winning championships, we are going to be taking "developmental prospects". It's still better than 7 years ago when it was "walk-ons welcome". Because we couldn't fill our scholarships with recruits.Anyone know what Jay Rohr or John Mackey were ranked by rivals?
  9. Well I know most of Detroit is pretty bombed out.
  10. 230 pounds, and can't beat five seconds for 40 yards? Why did we offer him, exactly? Could have been his 25 inch vertical, or the fact that he's 230 and will probably put on 15-20 pounds. Which would make a decent strong side end.
  11. I would like to think that if our ladies can beat Can't's ladies, surely we can beat Can't's felons.
  12. Well, here is the thing, unless promised otherwise, he will likely redshirt this year (210 he needs to put on about 15-25 pounds). Plus Jacq is the qb this year. Chances are Rodgers would have to battle with him for the 2010 season. I think that is what he was promised an open battle to start next year. So maybe, if Rodgers thinks he might lose the battle, but I doubt, he will have the most experience and I think overall JD prefers having an upperclassman taking the snaps. Now, Miller, he might look for a transfer.
  13. UConn message boards are just picking up on this. they expect an official announcement tomorrow.Article on the moveNow that it's been announced, what will JD do for next season? I would have to assume that a promotion from within is the most likely solution, given this point in the year. I'm thinking that Brian Callahan will have the best chance of getting it. Perhaps he will also maintain his position as offensive line coach and JD could select someone else (is Getsy too young/inexperienced?) to handle QB's.I truly intend this as a joke, but...Mike Shanahan is out of of a job, and did give JD his start.

  15. Ah, so you think he's trying to sell Springfield a monorail?
  16. Hmm, looks pretty good, are you saying that Akron has the inside track?
  17. I'm sure it has something to do with the visiting locker rooms. Basically they built a building behind the eastern lower stands from the 40 to the back of the southern endzone to house locker rooms. They had to build support structures from basically field level for the remaining section of the upper deck.
  18. I have a question for Coach Kest. We've heard a lot about what the men's staff has accomplished in being able to recruit Zeke Marshall, and having a very high quality recruiting class coming into this season. How closely are you working with the men's staff in developing your own staff's recruiting strategies? Also, what is do you feel are your primary recruiting regions?
  19. That is excellent news. Hopefully another way to let the media know that we want real Zips coverage. (it has been getting better, nice article on Conyers today in the Beacon.)
  20. Zips 45-42 in 4 overtimes?
  21. I think you mean SC"ROO"ED ... !!!!
  22. Did anyone else get their countdown keychains? I thought it was kind of cool but completely frivolous. No point in even having it after it hits 0.
  23. It shouldn't, but in a world of what have you done lately, it does. I mean look at Tennessee. They had a tenured coach that has had a bad year this season against the SEC. He coached for 17 years compiled a 152-52 record and appeared in over 16 bowl games. As recently as 07 he had them in the SEC championship game. But it wasn't good enough, so that get an NFL reject that benefitted from being on the best coached team in the nation under Pete Carroll. Kiffin has accomplished nothing collegiately other then being a good coordinator with excellent athletes. What I'm pointing out is schools go with the hot ticket, they don't look at continued success they want that instant gratification (much like we all do). Gill didn't leave because a school he liked didn't offer. He could have taken the Iowa State job, but he didn't see a benefit to himself. Hoke took the SDSU job because he wanted to do what was best for his friends and fellow coaches. Gill is the better coach, and next year when Georgia doesn't meet expectations and A&M plays subpar there will be more big coaching openings, and Gill will get one. (though it won't be because he won a second MAC title, that belongs to JD).
  24. Skip, you are right. A local news station isn't succeeding because of advertising. However, network affiliation drives advertising. The only network we ever had was competition for the Cleveland ABC affiliate. (and that was only during prime time). And when these stations go to sell time they show the network numbers not the news share. What I am saying is that Akron deserves one of the four network affiliates. Not a PAX news half hour. If your news rankings are the bottom of a market it's not going to hurt your station or the network to change news markets. The network would still be in the Cleveland TV market which encompasses all of Northeast Ohio. It's just finally the local news for that station would serve the million or so viewers that aren't in Cleveland or it's Suburbs.
  25. Since we have seen an increase in coverage lately (thank you again Tom Gaffney) I am curious what everyone's opinion is on the impact that local media coverage can have on recruiting.I think it can have a tremendous impact, especially with the advent of the internet. If you are not from Summit, Medina, Portage, or Stark county and you get a letter from The University of Akron, you are probably looking up the school. When the only that comes up is the GoZips.com, Uakron.edu and Zipsnation.org, you have to wonder what kind of program is recruiting you. But when you do it and several legit media articles pop up, that have positive things to say about the growth of the athletics program, you probably end up with a good feeling about the program. Now I'm a proponent of bringing a network station back to Akron. How to do that I don't really know, but if you consider that the 4th rated news show in Cleveland would still be the 4th rated news show in Akron (and possibly the third since you would open yourself up to people concerned about local news like Canton, Ravenna, and Medina) how hard of a sell could it really be to bring one of those 4 network stations down here? Now 3 and 19 have prominent ties to Cleveland sports franchises. That leaves 5 and 8 (ABC and FOX) either of those would thrive as the lone network station in Akron. If we had major TV coverage, it would benefit recruiting as well. What is eveyone's opinion?
