Ake, you are hilarious

You can attribute the lack of ticket sales for the game to three things. 1) No one wants to deal with a bunch of crappy OSU fans.2) The ticket alotment that the great university was so kind to share with our poor selves did not allow for people to buy 4 seats together. They were spread throughout the stadium in a very random pattern.3) Cost, why should a season ticket holder pay $50 for one game, when he spent $75 for every Akron game?Don't chalk this up as "lack of support" or "pathetic" it's a simple matter of Apathy. If you go to OSU who are you really supporting sitting in the upper deck with 100,000 other people there to root for the home team? It's not like OSU offers a single section that can end up being a wall of Blue in a sea of red. They purposely spread the visiting crowd out. The only team you are supporting is OSU because they just got $10,000 or more from Akron fans, alumni, and students that would have been better donated to the Z-Fund.

The Beacon would probably still screw that up, and the headline would be something like...Buckeyes Lose!I would take a nice showing against the Buckeyes and a MAC championship. Shows that our recruiting is paying off. Yeah sure they would talk about us beating OSU if we do pull it off but for how long? It's Thursday and Appy St still beat Michigan but now the talk is on Lloyd Car and what happens if The Blue beat the Ducks.
-
Here's one for the Beacon. You released several writers (probably more then 4 but for sake of the argument) with average salaries of 28,000. Well then with just those numbers the Beacon could have kept open the Parenting Center (4 times 28000 is 112,000 afterall). You finally could have done something to contribute to the community as the paper's founder intended.

No I am questioning how you determine talent. If Manning had come from Alcorn St, he would not have been as highly touted as he was coming from Tennessee. (despite having the same ability)If Frye had come from a big school with the same stats as he had at Akron, people would not be so hard on him. The fact is he is a MAC athlete and MAC athletes have to succeed immediately or they are considered a bust.

Curious will we follow our past trend?
g-mann17 replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in Akron Zips Football
You keep saying that the 3-3-5 can't stop the run. How did Penn State run against us? -
And why do you consider Manning as having great skills? Because he played for Tennessee? If Charlie Frye had went to Tennessee and broken 54 school records while playing there would you still say he didn't have talent? If Manning had played for Alcorn State would you still consider him having great skill? The fact is the Frye haters are mostly mid major haters. They think if they didn't play for the Big 10, SEC, ACC or PAC 10 then they are worthless. "They must not have any talent or else Michigan would have recruited them."The fact is, Frye has the ability, he was on every (and yes i do mean every) teams list as a 1st day selection. If you think Quinn will in after 6-8 weeks that's your issue. There are too many "have to have it now" fans in Cleveland that don't understand that every team that has ever won a superbowl didn't do it over night. I stick by my prediction that Frye will have a Superbowl ring before Quinn ever does (and i don't think Quinn will ever have one because he can't win big games and he can't come from behind)

Hmm, nice long rant. But you know nothing about me. I know that you are a little tempermental though. And quite the big crybaby when people disagree with you. You seem to talk a lot but do very little. Call me out for not going when you know nothing, like I said, why should I pay OSU 50 dollars to sit 200 feet away from the field and deal with a bunch of drunk a$$holes. I've been to the shoe for OSU games, all they do is assault and harrass fans of the other team. All you do is come on here and talk trash to people who bash your opinion. You have facts that you google, and take the first source you get.Second I have 2 degrees from the Universiy of Akron, my wife has 2 degrees from the University of Akron, my brother, and best friend both have degrees from the University of Akron. The only one acting like a Caveman is you. Thumping your chest, and telling the people of this board what to do and how to behave. It speaks more highly that we have passion for our own team then it does that we have respect for OSU. You are the biggest insult to the University of Akron. And go ahead post your picture of you at the 01 game when you were a student or just freshly graduated, with your Akron shirt on (that's really hard to do). You are a taint on this board and you know very well you are.Never, talk about me like you know me because you don't know dick (well you probably know dick very personally but from a different point of view if you catch my drift). Never, question my faith in my Alma Mater. Never, talk down about any program at the school or their chances of winning a game. I believe everyone on here is sick of you, and I doubt very seriously that you would be missed.

First, what is your right to act like an ass, ever since I joined this board that's all you have done. And yes you do act like an ass, just now with this new thread, you are saying "Listen to me, I am all knowing, the Poor OSU fans are sad because the Zips fans are being mean." You insult the board "the 100 of you that post". You insult us by saying that we are rude, crude and a bad representative of The University of Akron. I would say what is a bad image of the University of Akron is Alumni that fly other schools colors. That is a bad representation. The wishy washy Zips fan. Second, You ducked the question. Are you flying Blue and Gold or are you blending in. We all already know the answer. And no, I am not going to the game. For two good reasons. First, I am not going to allow myself to be assaulted by OSU fans when I cheer on my team. Second, I am not going to contribute any more money to that program when they don't have enough respect to play a MAC school at their home stadium. The Zips get their 375 grand whether the students and season ticket holders buy those tickets or not. So F OSU.

I'm sorry Zipgrad01. I didn't know that OSU wasn't mocking us. Oh yeah that's right all OSU fans are respectful I forgot. That's why they respect Michigan fans right in the back of the head with rocks and fists. That's why they are completely hostile if you wear opposing colors. Yep that's respect. And if they did respect us they would already know about us. Not just now 4 days before the game be reading up on our players and playing style. The OSU fans on here have been for the most part respectful, and most have not been accosted by the member of this board. The fact of the matter is that this is a football competition not a chess match. So some smack talking is allowed. If they can't deal with it then they have the problem. But no Zip fan should have to be "Yes sir, that is a very good point, you are right sir" to some OSU fan. To paraphrase Butchie Washington "At least we know what we are, we's a Zip!"What are you Zipgrad01? What colors will you be flying on Saturday?

It already has one

Oh gee, pretty soon I'm going to have equins on here saying how YSU will be the next Appalachian State. All I am saying is that Gardner-Webb doesn't exactly have a great o-line (and yes I know of the team, I knew of Appy St before the Michigan game I even have a jersey from them that I bought back in '02). They are a lower end to middle of the pack program that had a weakness exploited and didn't adjust. Most of you think we have a problem because with less then a minute left in the game we get a punt blocked. Did we have any critical punts blocked? Nope, just the last one of the game when it was pretty much shored up and Army would have had to perform a miralce to win. I'm sure that JD is addressing the situation this week in practice. So just relax.
-
Yeah if you break that down, that's one block a year (as he is a senior) and then 3 against the imposing Bulldogs special teams line-up.

Nah, you apparently don't have to try at all. Zen is making great points, but you (just as you accused him) deflect the point and use your own opinion as fact.Compare Frye's first 16 games to Manning's first 16 games (I've posted it before) Nearly identical stats. What's the difference? Manning's front office went out and got him a line for his second season (that didn't get injured in training camp by the way) then went and got him a top running back and receiver. So if you think that after 2 seaons you can determine how good a QB is going to be, you are sorely mistaken. Anyone who actually knows football knows that a QB alone does not win games. Big Ben was successful because he had a great line and one hell of a running game. Look what happened after the team lost some of it's pieces. So how about everyone get off Quinn's JV superstar jock, and give Frye a fair shake (meaning more then 2 series in a row and all of the first team reps in practice) then let his play with a 100% team be the determining factor.

Aww. My bad So all you bias people out there, pretend i never did that

To put things in perspective:Of the OSU articlesBuckeyes on bottom in 3-team race (no comments)YSU fan Tressel to take a day off (2 comments)Big Ten fans might miss TV network (61 comments) (by the way, mostly gripes about evil TWC)Lawrence Wilson ready for breakout season at OSU (no comments)What to expect from OSU (1 comment)Football follows pro baseball debut (1 comment)OSU to hold open football practice ... (no comments)So as you can see, OSU isn't very big on Ohio.com either. The Big Ten network article drew the most and that was just a b*tch session about greedy Time Warner. Other then that there are 4 comments on the Buckeyes on the website articles. So yeah everyone is OSU hungry.

I will gripe as much as like about the lack of coverage because I have called, written, e-mailed and every other form of communication you can have with the paper about the lack of coverage. From the time I was a freshmen in college until this very day. I have met Pluto and Morgan personally on numerous occasions, and complained to their very faces. But I must be the only one who complains to anyone. Trust me the lack of coverage is not because someone hasn't posted a comment following an article on Ohio.com (a practice that has really only been around for about 2 years.)
-
Also, do they think that adding a page or half page on Zips Athletics would hurt the bottom line that much? No, no one has ever said drop OSU coverage and Do only Zips Coverage. We have simply said, do some damn Zips coverage.Oh and make it QUALITY coverage!!!
-
I have to say something about this. When was the last time you saw an attempt during soccer season to have Monday Night Futbol? The media does not try and shove soccer down anyone's throat. If the media did then we would have Columbus Crew Coverage, we sure as hell would see coverage of our own Zips Soccer team who is quickly becoming an elite program. It was almost impossible to find coverage of the Crunch and Force when the were winning. So yeah say they "force soccer" on people LOL
-
The point is, he is the beat writer and he doesn't care. Same argument as yesterday. People care about what people are told to care about.Obviously you only care about having a negative attitude toward everything related to the Zips. If you think know one here cares why do you bother?

Zippy Makes 2007 Capital One All American Mascot
g-mann17 replied to ZippyNeedsyourvote's topic in Akron Zips Football
It's too bad that's not Can't's mascot, I think they would enjoy "Cocky" more the South Carolina. -
I am sure it was just an oversite...

I started subscribing so I could keep up with the Art Museum renovation. I also used to like Dyer Streets but when he doesn't write about painted squirrel he really isn't that interesting. But generally I never started subscribing to the Beacon for Sports, that's what CBS.Sportsline and ESPN are for, then I do some internet digging to keep up with the Zips. It would be great, but unless the Beacon is inundated with a public outcry to get a University page they will stick with the status quo. You can't tell me that there isn't enough going on with Soccer, Volleyball, Golf, Football, Cross Country, and Basketball recruiting (and rotating that for each sports season) to justify a full page in the sports like the MLB gets. -
First. As you can see Toyota had to stupe 0% as well. All car companies do it, the fact is they sell because marketing dictates to the masses what is important. That means press releases on safety ratings to the media, commercials starring Mr. Opportunity. Or Akron VS. Can't taking billing over OSU vs Northwestern. See how that works. People like what they are told to like, not what is better. Second the PS3 is leaps and bounds above both systems in terms of processing power, graphics, controller design etc. But lack of a sound marketing program (including price point and incentives) and believing that people will pay anything for a product has caused it to lag in sales. Or that Akron is more accessible then OSU and cheaper to view.As for the Media coverage. Ask a Beacon subsriber why he subscribes to the Beacon. The answer you will receive is not "So i can see how OSU did" it will be "So I can see what is happening in MY COMMUNITY" Does OSU in BCS GAME sell a paper on Saturday when it is on the front page? Yes. Does how OSU did against Washington on the front page of sports sell a paper? No. As uakronkid said. People only care about what they know.
