  1. Well, they were the only TV station in Summit Co...if you don't count PBS 49.Akron is in the Cleveland market, therefore, goes up against the Cleveland stations.Never had the budget to compete.Akron is bigger than Youngstown...Dayton...but we're just too close to Cleveland. If Akron were located, hmmm, lets see, like where Dover/New Philly are, it would have it's own market...about the same distance as Dayton to Cincy. I thought the biggest reason a station never stuck in Akron was because of a lack of network exclusivity.Had ABC, NBC, CBS or FOX taken over an Akron station they would have had the budget. Maybe 30 years ago there were issues with the power of the antenna output, but today with modern modes of media output there is no excuse for them to have all 4 network stations.Though the way Northeast Ohio media works it wouldn't matter if we (Akron) had our own exclusive station; they would still have more Buckeyes coverage then Zips coverage anyway.
  2. Excellent Captain I really do hope we kick those Bucknuts!!!!
  3. Without a doubt...and not a highly-paid one either. From what I have seen he is the Executive Sports ProducerTommy"Tucker was informed by the NFL sometime in the last five days that he will be suspended for the first four games of the season, reported NewsChannel5 executive sports producer Tom Misson."More Tommy
  4. Beacon JournalWhy does this keep happening?
  5. I just found it offensive because the entire tone of the e-mail was "Here you go bum, here's 5 bucks, even though I have ignored you every other day for all the time I have known you, but since I was given a free lunch today I don't need this 5 dollars anymore so you can have it, and oh wait, I need 50 cents of this because I have to buy my Plain Dealer because it's more important then you."
  6. Directly from an e-mail I received... Should we all be offended?
  7. Bottom line, every football player knows it...Play until the whistle blows.
  8. I think Tyler Lorenzen Looks like Jeff Corwin
  9. Apparently wOOt lives in his own little world where his opinion is right all the time. There are probably hardcore haters, that will never root for a rival. Then there are reasonable people who understand that the better your rival does, the better you do and look when you beat them. If Can't was 0-3 coming into the game yesterday, Zips Nation would have cared, but nobody else would have. However the fact that they had some wins under their belt and were the "Class of the MAC east" means our victory over them is worth more then getting the Wagon Wheel back to where it belongs. If Michigan was a losing team every year, they would not be OSU's rival. (Unless of course they were both bottom dwellers). So you see, if Can't doesn't continue to improve and get wins as we improve the Rivalry goes away. What would be the point of a rivalry game if you win 10 or 15 in a row?Plus it just feels better when you steal a rivals thunder.
  10. Ok, I wasn't going to say anything, but if you follow football at all, then a real fan, roots for it's rival in every game except the one against the main team. All Buckeye fans should root for Michigan all the way to the last game of the season. Why? Because then you look that much better when you beat them. All Zips fans should root for Can't in every game except for when we are facing them. Why? Because it feels that much better to know you ruined your rivals great season.I root for any MAC school when they play a BCS school. Why? Because it shows high school players across the country that it doesn't matter what conference you play for, it matters how you play. Bottom Line, Can't is going to look even worse against OSU then we did. They make way too many errors. (Them losing will but a smile on my face because I hate Can't, but truthfully and MAC win over a BCS is chool is great for the conference). We might have played the Bucks conservatively but it least it kept us in the game until the end.Bottom, Bottom Line; we need to be concerned about UCONN not who anyone else is playing.
  11. Yes that UConn QB is pretty scary. But he does seem to be a pocket passer. Unlike IU's Kellen. Hopefully the DB's can cause him some problems
  12. I have to say that this is the dumbest idea I have ever seen. Two Universities that are over a 45 minute drive apart combining? That is completely ignorant. Also why should Cleveland get everything? They always try and steal any identity that the City of Akron has. I pray that this doesn't happen, and if i knew that this was something that Strickland wanted to accomplish I would have never supported him. Fund the schools appropriately, if you don't want overlapping programs then quit having OSU expand it's education programs. It is technically supposed to be an A&M school anyway. I have no problem with aligning credits, and making intercollegiate transfer easier. I have no problem saying that the U of A is the only school who focuses on Polymer Engineering; Can't State is the only school that focus on liquid crystal; Cleveland State is the only school that focuses on urban development. But let those programs be integrated don't start combinging schools together because it deludes the knowledge pool.
  13. I have to be brief on this, but I've often wondered...Where did Can't's nickname come from? The Fl-ashes...Perhaps it is the last thing those 4 stupid hippies saw before they became imortal parking spot memorials. Perhaps it was from all the dirty hippies streaking across campus. Though I suppose technically it is the golden fl-ashes. So perhaps the students liked water sports and knew deep down that the Golden Showers would never cut it.Let me know what you think.
  14. Considering the hate we had for OSU, perhaps whe should have a little hate for the Flushes.Um introduction of the "black squirel" which really should be those panty waist's mascot.Wasting the best four parking spots on campus for a memorial to terrorists.what else we got?
  15. Rasor's Blog CommentsAlex The Hoosier Says: September 14th, 2007 at 9:20 am I think it’s cute that Akron thinks it actually has a shot against IU. 1. Jim Tressel wasn’t going to show anyone anything they plan on doing against Washington, or Penn State, or any other team that had a legitimate chance of defeating OSU….that is why your game was so close. That is why the man wins lots and lots of big games.2. Akron beat Army by 14….IU would have beaten Army by 144. This is an Army team that had to sweat against a rugged Rhode Island team.3. To call Indiana’s ground game pee-wee like is as absurd as you people thinking this is a game Akron might win. They rank 3rd in the Big Ten in rushing. IU had Western Michigan down 34-7 before they knew what hit them. IU got lazy and let them back into the game. The reasoning behind that is simple. This team is extremely talented, it was built by Terry Hoepner to win Rose Bowls, not lose to Zippy Chippy… It should have been a 52-7 game. Western will compete for a MAC championship…..Akron won’t……4. IU by 24…..ship the dough5. Frye will be working the fries within a year. Sorry about your luck.
  16. I agree with everything you said.Though (and it's not a disagreement with you) I have to disagree with the "watering down of talent" theory everyone always tries to pull. That would be fine if say, the US population hadn't increased since the the last time the NFL expanded. But the population continues to grow. Where the talent thins (in my opinion) is in coaching. Too many people who would be a qualified coach take a job with ESPN or FOX or some small school somewhere or outside of football entirely, and that leaves people who are less skilled to try and coach the young players. The coaching pool is very watered down. The player talent is there, there is no one to help refine it.
  17. I think you all are just "Glory Days"-ing this whole thing. NFL players have always developed within the league. College has always been the precursor systems that the NFL used. If the players aren't fitting the Drop Back and Throw system then you change the style of play. The only thing really holding the NFL back right now is that the QB is so highly regarded. You can't hit him, he can't get hurt or what will happen to the team. This keeps the offenses blase. No option (which is 30% or more of all football) So now you have only 2/3rds the possibilities on offense. The main thing is that coaching in the league has to get better. For every Sean Payton, there are 3 Romeo Crennels out there that can call a defense but can't make his players better. If the coaching pool improves so will the quality of play.
  18. We really should offer. Hell he wants to go to school for business or law, and um we have a top level business school and a best value law school. And we need a consistant kicker
  19. He comes in as # 3 because he doesn't know anything about the system. Seattle runs their program the right way. Developing players and not just tossing them (ala Cleveland) to the dogs after they have a 60% grasp of a system. You are such a tool.
  20. The NFC Championship, their division oh and games. I think any Browns fan would settle for that right now. They are still winners. And you need to give it up, no one here respects your humble opinions and "insight". Also if you think that Rex Grossman is "better than" Frye then someone needs to turn you in to the authorities because you are growing some good stuff in your basement. I don't need facts to substantiate that argument. It's common knowledge, look at the weapons around Grossman, and the O-line, and notice he struggles something fierce.
  21. I can think of worse ways to make a million dollars. Derek Anderson's gonna get the snot beat out of him for less than 1/2 that salary. No...Derek Anderson actually gets rid of the ball. Charlie will probably still find a way to get sacked on the sidelines. sgm, You are hilarious. DA will get rid of the ball, right to a Cinci defensive back, or the shoe laces of a Browns Receiver. Then after weeks of the same thing, sack, incomplete pass, interception Savage will say.."Quinn is now ready." He will get canned by what ever team he plays, and say that he was just earning his stripes. Then the rest of the season Quinn will look like Tom Tupa and at the end of the year Quinn will show his true egotistical colors saying the team isn't good enough for him to show his true ability. If Chicago can win with Grossman, you obviously don't need a "great" QB to be a succesful team.
  22. Kentucky, Indiana plus 4 MAC opponents equal 6 home games. Most teams (outside of crummy OSU) try for a 50/50 set up. We already have that for 2009.Also penguin breath. The reason we have 4 home games is to try and keep the wear and tear down on the Rubber Bowl. It is a rat hole. Hence the new stadium.
  23. Best wishes to Charlie (this fits into my Frye will have Superbowl ring long before Quinn even makes the playoffs scenario quite nicely). Also, I doubt very seriously Quinn is given any slack from the Browns fans. He better hope he doesn't start against Cinci, because Justin Smith will be looking to throw him a welcoming party. Now we need to trade Romeo to Donatos for the late shift doughboy so we actually have a person that can make decisions and build confidence in the players.
  24. Zippy is kicking serious butt and currently is the leading vote getter. Let's Keep it up!http://www.capitalonebowl.com/Standings.aspx
  25. Akron - 24IU - 13As "good" as Hardy "is" this will be the best secondary he has faced. I also doubt very seriously that the Hoosiers offense is better then OSU's. It's back to reality for all the IU fans this week.
