On top of being a much needed commodity in his own right, his transfer here could help recruiting at his old high school in the future. If I recall correctly, Bolingbrook HS has the reputation for being a running back factory. One current RB recruiting target attends Bolingbrook - Erik Smithhttp://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=333&p=8&c=1&nid=3145263

I'm as big a fan as anyone here of keeping good local talent. Apparently, every other Division 1 coach took a pass on Dan Dario as well. He is signed at D2 Fairmont State in WV.http://www.fightingfalcons.com/page.cfm?st...&cat=exclusives

No can do, Sally.

Could it be??????????J'Michael DeaneDefensive tackle, 6 foot 6, 290 pounds Metro Toronto Deane gave a verbal commitment to MSU on Sunday, giving the Spartans two defensive tackles from Canada in one weekend. With the departure of Domata Peko from an already thin defensive tackle position, Deane provides much-needed depth for the Spartans. He will have four years of eligibility.Deane is considered by many football analysts to be one of the top defensive lineman in all of Canada. The two-star defensive tackle chose MSU over offers from Duke, Akron and Ohio.

I agree. There is a big difference between a recruit who never shows up, never enrolls and one who makes it to the point of being ready to contribute and then can't focus on passing Sports Management classes. The trend here is starting to get more than a little disturbing.

Found this first on Scout where you had to be a paying member. Google came to the rescue.Senior Falcon Commits to D-IA University of AkronJanuary, 2007. Senior All-Area and All-Conference linebacker Matt Little made a verbal commitment to the University of Akron, a D-IA program participating out of the Mid-American Conference. Other programs in the MAC include Bowling Green, Toledo, Can't State, Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Temple to name a few. The Akron Zips are one year removed from playing for the MAC championship and visited NC State during the 2006 season and came away with a victory at Carter-Finley Stadium. The Falcon Family wishes Matt the best as he moves onto the next level. To learn more information about the college recruiting process visit the College Bound Recruits section. To see information on those Falcon student-athletes that have gone on to continue playing football at the collegiate level visit the Alumni site. Check back in the future weeks and months ahead to hear about additional Falcon seniors heading off to play ball on the collegiate level. Active Verbal List Updated 1/24/06
KentZip replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Look also at the quality of the recruits. We currently have as many 3 star commits as schools like Wake Forest. -
From an article on All State nominations:"Wayne Jones, Bishop McCort, Sr., 6-2, 325. Two-year starter. Made 62 solo stops and 72 tackles overall on defense that did not allow a 100-yard individual rusher in 14 games dating to last season. McCort allowed opponents 670 yards rushing through 11 games."

My son had a lacrosse camp at the Field House today.Sitting with some other fathers in the stands, the conversation turned to Zips football and recruiting. I mentioned to them the story I had heard that Coach Brookhart likes to walk into the facility backwards in front of recruits and watch the looks on their faces as they see the facility for the first time. Yada, yada... the topic changes and we are on to something else.No more than five minutes later (we were seated in the pullout stands), Coach Brookhart comes walking into the facility backwards talking and gesturing with his hands. At this point, he could have been talking to the janitor for all we knew. Seconds later, at least 7 recruits along with their families came walking into the Field House with their eyes turned up and some generally amazed looks on their faces. Cue the Twilight Zone music!!When JD passed the recruits over to Coach Bailey for a tour of the weight room, I took the opportunity to introduce myself to Coach Brookhart. Later, I talked to Coach Bailey. He mentioned that several of todays recruits were linemen candidates which is a relief to me. Both of them were as personable as could be and I left today with an even higher regard for the football program than when I arrived.

This game reminded me of the give-away days that Pro teams have at the end of the year to thank fans for their patronage. You know, the day where they give away the last few thousand items from each give-away during the regular season. In a bizarre and kind of way, the Zips entire football program did that today for the (my estimate) 7,500 fans in attendance. They gave us:Rolling shotgun snapsPersonal foulsNo pass protection for the most partInaccuracy from Getsy when he did have timeNo running attackA mostly capable defensive showingDropped ballsTight ends looking like they were on drugs - out of sync with Getsy, slow to reactLow snaps on puntsAt least one high snap on a field goal attempt contributing to a blockDropped passesTwo running backs kept in the backfield for protection on passing plays who downright whiffed their blocks or were thrown aside like rag dollsAnother flag thrown on the coaching staff for a sideline warningA 54 yard field goal attempt before half time that was no better than the students kicking for prizes at half time. There may have been more, but I left when WMU made it 17-0.

Leaving for the game in 10 minutes and it does my Blue and Gold heart good to see the score on Yahoo:BALL STATE 27 0

This guy is listed as a 25 year old Junior who has a little over 100 yards in his entire collegiate career. I'm guessing he has used up his red shirt year so what would we be getting - a transfer with one year left as a 27 year old senior?

Recruit from last year is at prep school and this article says we are being outworked for his services now that he is a full qualifier - disappointing if true.http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/news?slug=ri...tory_recruiting

Thanks for the update. If you decide to leave, I'll personally miss your enthusiasm for the Zips. I don't know why that has to equate to hatred for any team outside the MAC, but that's your right. Over time, you may change your mind.

and things just keep getting worse for the Zips
KentZip replied to Balki Bartokomous's topic in Akron Zips Football
Seems to me, even if he did retaliate, it wouldn't stop him from turning right around and filing an assault charge on the other student. It is the kind of thing that might make the other guy think twice about pressing charges. -
So you Want Akron to have true Fan support
KentZip replied to Mr.McChickenTrousers's topic in Akron Zips Football
Hey Chicken Pants, No disrespect taken and none meant. As you say, it really comes down to 2 things - Get people to the games once so they can see the product and then keep them coming back if they like what they see. Get them to the games equals Marketing. Keep them coming back equals Marketing plus Customer Service (food at the venue, ticket office, communications with ticket holders). This years parking fiasco is a good example of how the Athletic Dept. has shot itself in the foot repeatedly over the years. Get a little momentum and then pull that crap... jeesh. As a sidebar, I can't tell you how many times over the years I have joined some of the department sponsored groups (Varsity A Club, etc......) and then never heard another word from them.We seem to have gotten our fair share of good to excellent Athletic Directors over the years. I can't understand why one of them couldn't have set up a well run and fan friendly ticket office for football. -
So you Want Akron to have true Fan support
KentZip replied to Mr.McChickenTrousers's topic in Akron Zips Football
"The REAL reason the Akron has poor fan support can be summed up in one word. “Poverty” Face it, the Canton, Akron, Massillon, Cleveland area is dying."Nope. I appreciate your passion but you are falling prey to what you hear on the nightly news. There are many times more than enough "rich" folks still left in these parts to afford a general admission ticket to a Zips game if they are so motivated. Many are not motivated. They fall into a few logical groupings:Never been to a Zips game but would go if venue and product were seen as a value or as an attraction. With a better effort from the Athletics dept., these people could have been attracted in higher numbers after the bowl game last year. Lack of a decent facility definitely hurts here. A new stadium will undoubtedly help for a while. Long time supporters This University and its athletic department make it waaaaaaaaaayyyyy too hard to become a committed long term supporter of football. I'll give you 2 examples. (1) Had an associate who was a long term season ticket holder for football - contributed enough to have 4 Heisman Lodge passes. Several years ago, he missed the deadline for renewing his season tickets by one business day because he had been out of town. He called the following Monday to explain that he would mail his check that day but was told by a member of the ticket office that he was too late. He's never been back and all contributions for football have obviously ceased. (2) Two times last year, my wife and son were searched on their way into the Rubber Bowl. A 13 year old who isn't dressed like a gang member does not qualify to be searched. Search me, I understand. After all, I live in K.E.N.T.Students I've heard enough about the commuters who live so far away that they can't possibly make it to the Rubber Bowl for a game - B.S. Many of them would make a trip to Miami or Ohio U. for a party - in other words if they felt it was worth it. We have enough students and alumni within a 20 minute drive to pack the old Municipal Stadium, let alone the Rubber Bowl.Rant off, Go Zips -
For those not "fortunate" enough to have been at Cant last week, the display today in quarters 2 through 4 was identical. No skilled players making plays, poor offensive concept, no capitalizing on mistakes, no pass rush and to top it off, we now have two starters who put themselves ahead of the team. Thanks Crouch and Pace. See the bench? Get used to it.

He's saying that even though this is an Akron board, he's not ashamed of his Can't ejukayshun.
-
I was there in person. Can't should be ashamed of their attendance. Zips fans should be proud of their numbers, even if the team took the day off.
-
Wonder who is in the stands scouting today for JD's move up to a bigger job? What conferences are scouting the Zips to move up so we can play better competition? I was there in person for the first half and that is the worst defensive performance I have seen since Owens left.
