Dambrot interviewed by CollegeHoopsNet
Hilltopper replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
The Saudi National team. -
You are correct. Akron 1969 I don't remember Freddie though, until 74.
-
That Tampa game in 1969 was the first Zips football game I ever attended. Tampa 1969 I don't think Fred Soloman was playing for Tampa just yet, he graduated in 1974 and was drafted into the NFL in 75. Tampa pros Tampa played for a few years more, but dropped football after the 74 season. We lost to Freddie that year at the Rubber Bowl.

I agree. Dan went from being a loud, barking coach to being a dick.Stacey looked like Barkley in the second half that day. Did he have 30 after halftime? That's what happens when no one is guarding you. B Hip could have scored 30 that night. Biggest lay down by a Zips team I ever saw.
-
When did this happen? I never heard of that.Hilltopper exaggerates a bit, but the Andrick-Hipsher steel cage match is well-know to be the point where Thunder Dan jumped the shark.Never!
-
Ryan Andrick dropping Dan Hipsher with a right hook to the chin. Hipsher picking himself off the floor like nothing happened.
-
You sure you weren't watching the Aeros? There is no baseball seating to speak of on Akron's campus. Yeah, if only they would remove those bleachers behind home. Then they could put in some "baseball seating" Those players at the plate keep blocking Zachs view.

Where's the "Akron Football Night?"
Hilltopper replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Dr. Proenza hired the janitors of football. He is at fault for the problem we now experience with football. I don't see any other way to slice it. Tw might not be the best for football he Is doing well in other areas. Dr. P takes risks and expects returns. I don't see any the way to slice it. Not a big tw fan but he has not been all bad. I coach on the other hand is failing plain and simple. He was a tw hire so Dr. P will probably have to pressure tw to fire I coach early. Accountability Proenza is an amazing intellectual. He has vision that's borderline paranormal. But the guy doesn't know jack about football. He knows the importance good football can contribute to the University. But the nuts and bolts of how to form a successful football program is one attribute the guy lacks. So, he relies on consulting firms and the advice of others when it comes to football. And it hasn't worked out. Accountability is great. In principle. But there are Accountants who look at the football budget and say "We can't afford to pull the plug...we're stuck with this guy." Proenza won't approve terminating Ianello's contract with any more than 1-year remaining. Hell...UA sabotaged our 2009 season in hopes of saving JD's $250k in salary. That shows me the the reality of what finances can control at the corner of Brown and East Exchange. If the Zips go 1-11 in 2011, Ianello isn't going anywhere. And if he goes 4-8 in 2012, expect a contract extension. I don't see it playing out any differently. And all the bitching and moaning on this board is not going to change that scenario one bit. I have tried to stay out of the daily love fest for Coach I that goes on here, because I know that its not helping the program. If you don't think potential recruits are affected by some of the crap posted online on fan message boards, you need to have a reality check. This site may be all there is for a recruit to maybe get a feel for how the fan base supports the program. Call me a homer or a blind follower, but I am a Zips fan no matter what. And that means sticking with the program through the good and the bad. GP1, you should put all that energy and all those ideas into a message to Tom Wistricil and volunteer to help implement them. It looks like your UA education has paid off for you, maybe you can give a little bit back. -
Thanks for the link.

Is Herbie a Wisky or Minny grad?

Can't State sues Geno Ford for $1.2 million
Hilltopper replied to Hilltopper's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Looks like Geno is gonna pay. Maybe Can't has hired Tim Misny. -
I was saying this very same thing to myself the other day.
-
He already had a previous run in with the police. He was cited for underage consumption in the Silver Ghettos parking lot incident. It will be interesting to see how the new Can't State AD and head coach handle this. Senderoff is already on record saying he wasn't going to tolerate any problems.

Potential College Football Scandal
Hilltopper replied to Dave in Green's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
I guess if you're a perennial 8-5 program, you get a pass. UNC -
This guy lists five possible candidates that he's heard mentioned, after a lengthy rant about how our coaching search is taking too long. Little has been found of who may be considered for Akron's next coach but these five names have been mentioned. Michigan assistant Matt Husted Ex-Notre Dame Head Coach Dave Schrage Ex-Wake Forest Rick Rembielak Wayne State Head Coach Ryan Kelley Wright State assistant Greg Lovelady Watch it end up being some random guy who spent time with our AD at Wisky or Minnesota. I thought this guy sounded familiar. He was HC at K.E.N.T. prior to Wake and, of course, had much success there. It'd be interesting to see if he'd even have any interest here. A big part of why Rembielak was so succesful at Can't was the coaching from this guy; Dick Schoonover.

Potential College Football Scandal
Hilltopper replied to Dave in Green's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
This is very common at big time programs. Not really a scandal. Sounds like legalised prostitution to me. -
For once, I think you might be on to something.

The PD conducted a study of the working conditions and employee satisfaction at NE Ohio companies. Lo and behold, GP1's favorite whipping boy came in at #6 in the large company category. LARGE (500-plus local employees) I know this contradicts his theory that Infocision is some kind of modern day sweatshop, full of modern day slaves. It appears that those who actually work there see things a little differently. Northeast Ohio's Top Workplaces In the future, please stop trying to bite the hand that feeds us(UA Athletics).

Thank you for your comment Mr. Gray. Not so fast my friend! Are you certain that it isn't "grey"? .....

Thank you for your comment Mr. Gray.

Doug Martin sure knows how to pick jobs. SI thinks he is a coach on The Worst Team in College Football.

You nailed it ZW. Until we get rid of the carpet baggers who actually make the decisions, we will never be consistantly good at FB.

SI article on our former adversary
Hilltopper replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
Over the years our coaching staff has been provided cars by many of the local dealers in exchange for advertising and other perks. Nothing new there. -
Its college basketball guys. Every team is losing players and counting on incoming freshmen and previous bench players to fill the gaps. Every team except for a handful of the best programs are having the same questions about their rosters for next season. That is the attraction for me, the constant change and growing process for these young men. I'm looking forward to next season. Will we have a perfect team? Not likely, but it will be fun to see how things shape up as the season progresses. Some people on this board need to take a chill pill.
