Tressel rumor still just a rumor. Nothing on any of the major sports websites yet as you might expect on a Christmas holiday weekend. But another small sports website quotes either additional information on the two original sources or possibly two new sources that something may be going on.
The new rumor in the above article that "the OSU Athletic Department has even more self-reported infractions to deliver to the NCAA" could, if true, be the kicker that brings down Tressel. There is some plausibility to that based on a Tweet from former OSU player Antonio Pittman, who cited violations going back to 2001 and then deleted the Tweet:
From the FTR websire;
For The Record Sports is up to date sports news with a large side of satire. We’re the anti-nerd of sports blogging. We’re simply here to keep readers entertained and laughing. If you’re looking for in-depth analysis of 3-4 defenses and stats on 8th inning pitchers in single A baseball, this is not the site for you. If you’re looking for in-depth coverage of all the ridiculous things athletes do and say, you have found your new home. When I logged onto the second site, the first thing that happened was my antivirus had to defend an attack on my computer. I guess I'll stay away from that one.

I imagine it will go to states where high speed rail might make some sense, as opposed to Ohio, which would have a train that would cost an astronomical amount of money and time to develop and for which there is no significant demand. But hey, its free money, so why not.
That'll stick it to those big government blowhards.
Thank goodness those funds are being sent to Illinois. Can you imagine the demand for train rides from Chicago to Springfield? Someone pinch me, I'm dreaming of the possibilities.
What about the demand for train rides from NY to Chicago? Without an Ohio rail program, will that ever become a reality?
It's really about interstate travel. Nobody's going to ride a train to a place they can get to on one tank of gas. It's about providing an alternative to air travel.
There already is train service from NY city to Chicago. The Lakeshore Limited. It had a problem this week.

Second leading scorer....no doubt he will be back in uniform by January 8th.
It looks like he won't be playing by the 8th of January. There was a pretrial hearing today and they pushed things back for 3 weeks in order to conduct an investigation. The next hearing date is 1-14-11. He was released on a $10,000 signature bond.

that vast majority of Europe would disagree, RootforRoo.
Rail, both in the forms of conventional speed and high-speed, have proven to be a very effective means of mass transportation. There's a reason why they're still in the process of building a rail tunnel through the swiss alps instead of it being a highway tunnel.
Sure, taking a train ride down to columbus may cost a little more than driving and take an almost equal time, but consider the other savings. First and foremost being environmental pollution. If every train rider drove their respective cars, it'll produce a lot more pollution than a single train would. Second, theres next to no wear-and-tear on your car from the trip aside from the drive to the stations. Thats a long-term cost savings right there. Third, you aren't required to DRIVE, meaning you could take a early-morning or late-night train and not have to worry about staying awake. You can sleep, read a book, surf the web, do whatever you want while on the train. Its just relaxing and much less stressful. Lastly, the rail lines are almost always on-time, meaning you won't have to worry about traffic jams from accidents, long lines at the security checkpoints, or have to deal idiot drivers.
I would glady pay more to go to columbus or points further if it meant a more enjoyable ride and an overall better trip.
I sure hope once you get off that train your final destination is within walking distance.

I just tried to get an update to this story at the Record courier website. I found 2 stories about Can't State basketball players problems with the law. Both of them are locked and you can't read them unless you are a paid subscriber. It appears that the powers at the RC don't want anybody seeing Can't State's dirty laundry. Those articles where the only ones which you need special access to view. What a croc of S#$t.
-
I'm sure its all just a big misunderstanding.
Once the Can't State athletic department gets things straightened out with police evrything will be back to normal.
I wish we could recruit a guy with his "Skills".

Sorry, but all of this makes me recall a couple of the most absurd thoughts I've heard on here so far this basketball season.
1) Brett doesn't have a good shooting percentage. We can do without him. We have Euton now.
2) Since this team is already pretty established, maybe Brett can come back and contribute as a "role player".
If the recent article isn't enough to convince everyone how much his teammates are glad to have him back, the way they reacted on the floor on Saturday should be more than enough. He immediately changed the complexion of of the game, and his teammates leaned on him immediately to make some things happen. As he gets back into the flow, I won't be surprised if we find that he'll not only be a major contributor, but very possibly still the best player on our roster.
This game played-out as it did because McNees couldn't throw it in the hoop if he he was sitting on Zeke's back, in the paint.
It is nice to have Brett back. Decent scorer, senior who's been on all the bus trips to the far-reaches of Michigan and Indiana, etc. No doubt he's a nice, "mid-season acquisition." But unless he drank some of Conyers' Patented Radioactive Senior Elixir, he is what he is.
+++++100
If Steve makes 2 or 3 of those bricks, the game is over at the end of regulation. I'm more worried about Steves transition to SG, it really helps if he makes a few shots.

Per what source?Dambrot appears to have softened his stance. McKnight won't start, but he might see some minutes if the situation is right.ABJ

Let me be a politically incorrect realist for a second. Haywood got that job because of his skin tone. Had he been white, he'd still be at Miami. .....
Thanks for sharing your inner self. It makes it easier to understand some of your other posts.
Save it, you can keep your warm and fuzzy "I'm this really tolerant, white-guilt ridden white guy who wants everyone to know it even though I've never talked to a black person in my life" act for someone who cares. I grew up in a majority black school, my teammates were majority black throughout my entire athletic career, and those teammates are some of my closest friends in life who are like brothers to me, 3 of which were in my wedding. You're not gonna sit here and imply that I'm a racist just so you can feel all nice and politically correct, when all I did was state an obvious truth. It's because of j@ck@#$es like you that people are afraid to have honest conversations in society.
Pitt has never had a black head football coach and I'm sure the fact that Haywood was black factored heavily into their decision to reach for him. I'm sure if there was a white coach in the same position, Pitt would've probably looked elsewhere or been more hesitant. Skin color is a fact of life in football coaching nowadays, with teams at all levels under pressure to hire black candidates, especially teams that have never had a black coach. I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing, as it's given guys like Mike Tomlin an opportunity to succeed where in the past he'd probably still be a secondary coach somewhere. This thread implied a possible analogy to RI. I was simply saying that RI is not as likely to get a big job offer after one good season like this guy did.
Thats a really ignorant statement there ITZ. You don't know a darn thing about Dave and if you did you would never post that kind of nonsense. As to your first paragraph, whats even more offensive are people who declare themselves not racist because "they have Black friends".

Maybe DiG can do some DiGging and see about this. Green city schools are in turmoil and they might be forced to drop athletics or go pay-to-play. Their coach is Tom Stacy and he might be forced out to save on the budget. That's who I'm hearing that we're currently pursuing. One of our 2011 recruits, Dylan Brumbaugh, hails from Green.
Stacy knows the university, being our QB coach for 8 years. He knows the area, and he knows the local prospects.
Green Schools are not "in turmoil", but we are trying to pass a new levy. If the levy doesn't pass there will be some cuts of teaching positions. Tom Stacy is a Phys-ed teacher at the high school. Phys-ed is a required course, you have to take it in order to graduate. Most likely, the teaching positions that are eliminated will be for elective courses not required for graduation. He could possibly be bumped by someone with more tenure, but the other 2 phys-ed teachers currently have less tenure than Stacy. I guess its possible that Stacy mat want to get back into coaching at the collegiate level, but I haven't heard anything that would make me think that was true. Stacy has worked hard to improve Green's football program and the results of those labors are just starting to pay off. I would be surprised if he left, but anything is possible. I'll check around and see if there is any truth to this rumor and report back.
ps; I find it humorous that every time I use spell check on a quoted post involving Zac, it wants me to change Zach's name to Schlep!

South Fayette QB Christian Brumbaugh has been offered. I'll bet this means that a JUCO QB is unlikely in this class. The poster former known as UAkronKid had already reported that Zach Stoudt was likely headed to Mississippi.
He just verbaled William & Mary according to Scout. Had more FCS offers than FBS ones.
I don't think we're hurting too badly in the future QB department. In addition to Dylan Potts who got some playing time this season, Zach D'Orazio will be on campus next month, and we have 3-star Kyle Pohl coming in as well. And if Matt Rodgers ever gets healthy, we have plenty of depth and hopefully one of them turns out to be a game-changer.
I disagree on the QB depth issue. Potts and D'Orazio are both spread offense QBs. More runners than passers.

Thanks Tom!
Here's another seemingly all-too-familiar quote from KD:
''He is way more coachable now. He still has moments where he gets emotional, but he has bought into what we are saying and what we are trying to do,'' Dambrot said. ''I think it helps that he is playing much more now. He feels no threat about playing time. He is more relaxed.''
I love KD. But any casual Zips' observer can now see this as a recurring theme: Jimmy Conyers... Brett McClanahan... Nik Cvetinovic.
I hope KD begins to see the pattern here.
Yeah, I agree. All incoming freshmen should be guaranteed 25 minutes per game. It should then increase by 5 minutes per game until their senior year when they are playing 40 minutes. How dare KD base player minutes on what he thinks makes sense. If things keep going the way they are now, the Zips will never have a winning program.
-
So 27,496 was the number of tickets sold, probably mostly season tickets, and a small fraction of ticket holders bothered to show up. Not uncommon in sports, as those of us who showed up at every Zips home football game this season can attest.
No. There were that many there, or very close to it, during the first half. In the second half, it did start to resemble Infocision.
You're slipping Meister, I fixed it for you!

Or even the Highland Theater, since you can drink there
I don't see a problem drinking in the union...they have a liquor license and a cooler filled with brew.
I've been to events at the JAR where alcohol wa served.

When is Soccer going to get a place on the ZN.O homepage? Perhaps you could replace the "20 top posters today" with a link to the Soccer Board. I think they deserve more respect.

Here is an account from a local fan. He is a long standing member of Big Soccer. This looks like the best explanation so far.
http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showpost.ph...p;postcount=277
Here's what happened:1) The AR blew a call early in the game on an inconsequential situation where Korb was clearly fouled in Akron's defensive end by the sideline... the AR raised the flag and pointed in Cal's favor... the Center Ref, assuming the AR had simply pointed the wrong way on the obvious foul on Cal, made the correct call and gave Akron the FK... that tweaked the AR because he had, indeed, given either the foul (obstruction?) or the throw-in (assuming no foul) to Cal... how dare the lowly NCAA Center Ref over-rule the big, bad FIFA Ref...
2) A couple of missed throw-in situations on the bench-side of the field (both in Cal's defending half)... one where the ball went out when Cal had the ball and the flag was not raised... another when Akron kept the ball in-bounds but the flag was raised...
3) Cal's goal... Caleb (and the coaching staff) is not one to berate an official unless he feels he's right... if it was close, he would be much more apt to jump all over his defenders than the Center Ref or the AR... Caleb's reaction to the play leads me to believe that, at the VERY least, it was a close play (i was behind the goal so it's impossible for me to give my own opinion)... even if it's a no-doubter in your own mind, as an AR you should expect to get an earful for a while... and given the previous situations that had already occurred, Caleb's reaction seemed to say, "Now i KNOW you're trying to screw us"... additionally, the chirping had already begun between the AR and the Akron staff (Caleb included) and included versions of, "I'm a FIFA AR" and "I don't give a sh*t what your badge says" (i'll let you figure out who said what)...
4) Akron scores... after/during the celebration Caleb (and coaching staff) say something to the AR along the lines of, "We'd be up 1-0 now if you didn't have your head up your tuchus" (along with something along the lines of, "Welcome to the NCAA")... the AR asks the Center ref to come over and explains that Caleb needs disciplined... the Center ref tells him he'll talk to the coaches and proceeds to do so... when he walks back towards the field, the AR tells the Center ref that he wants Caleb thrown out (because that's what FIFA would do?)... the Center ref tells him he's talked to Caleb and he's not going to throw him out (obviously realizing the situation and giving the coach/team/game some latitude and feeling that the talking-to sufficed)... he asks the AR to get back to his place... the AR again demands that Caleb be thrown out and the Center ref reiterates that he's not going to do that... the AR says, "Either he goes or i go" and the Center ref tells him to be careful on the his way as the snow and cold has made the roads slippery... the linesman takes his flag with him (i don't know why this has been mentioned as often as it has... it's HIS flag... he should take it with him)...
-
All I can say is that I was told this by someone who;
1. Was at the game.
2. Is a former soccer official.
3. Is currently a Head soccer coach at a local high school.
What ever happened, it sure is a strange scenario.
-
And now for the rest of the story; the SJ was removed by the head referee for cheering for the Zips. After Akron scored he cheered.
-
The first goal wasn't even close to offside (I know Caleb thought it was, he was incorrect too)... also, the sideline ref basically quit from all accounts I've heard, he wasn't "ejected". Your grip on reality is tenuous at best, as I've pretty much come to expect from you.
I wonder why a guy who "Quit" had to be escorted by the police off the the field last night? Maybe his "Grip on reality " is messed up also. Or maybe its because he was ejected from the game?

We did get a coupon for free coffee or hot chocolate at the last football game. A guy walked around to all 800 people in the stands handing them out.
Yeah, right after I shelled out $6 for 2 cups for my kids.
