  1. I remember that play. It was just another of the remarkable plays that Jammal made during his Zips career. I got to know Jimmal pretty well after his playing days at UA. I haven't seen him for a few years now. I wonder if he still has any hops left in those legs?

It appears that he is still going strong at close to 40 years old. He still is playing in France and averaged over 24 minutes per game.

  2. I lied about having all the latest updates. ;)

I have my Java set to manual rather than automatic update, and hadn't updated in awhile. I just finished manually updating to the latest version of Java, returned to ZN.O, and did not get a Microsoft Security Essentials warning.

So I used Windows Explorer to check my browser cache, and found that there is no longer a copy of index.htm placed in the cache when I visit ZN.O. Instead, there is only an index.php file. So maybe the latest version of Java handles things differently in the browser.

Anyone still having a problem may want to try manually updating to the latest version of Java.

I didn't change a thing since the last time I tried to access ZNO and I am no longer getting the security warning. Win XP and IE8.

  3. The only thing the Democrats have gotten good at is keeping quiet while Republicans slouch to the left and lose public support. Democrats are as far left as they ever have been....with Republicans not far behind. KY is too Red of a state for Paul to lose this one. Democrats are in heap big trouble this year in states far more Purple than KY.

Well, in part this is a perceptive statement on GP's behalf. After a quarter-century of liberalism and neo-liberalism (from both parties, but especially the GOP), Democrats have been shaken awake by the grassroots of their party to realize that the gap between rich and poor is the greatest it has been in over a century of wealth and opportunity maldistribution. The last time that inequality was this great, we had a progressive era (led in part by that icon of Republicans, Teddy Roosevelt), and a populist movement that was brutally opposed by fed troops.

But on the other hand, one of my favorite (comedic) statements from American "conservatives" is the deadpan remark, "The US is a center-right nation". Well of course it is dummy! There are only two political parties allowed in the US, one in the center, and one on the right! America will change if and when it is permitted to have a full political spectrum, instead of two thirds of one. And don't get me wrong, I'm not personally a supporter of "left-of-center" (by international standards) politicians. But, the influence and impact of having the involvement of a real left would be huge. Even a "tiny" and relatively irrelevant left-of-center party like the New Democrats puts Canada to the left of the US, even though their other two parties are center (Liberals) and right (Tories). This lack of a "real left" is what allows out-of-this-world rhetoric like calling middle-of-the-road Democrats, like the current POTUS the 'S' word. The other effect of that is to legitimize some of the elements of the far left who are often as loony as their opponents on the Tea Party right.

That would make for a good routine on Comedy Central. After all, thats where most of the left gets their talking points.

  4. I was in Lot 9 as a Reserved ticket holder and also got the call. In the end I payed for the new parking because I really don't no why. What cracks me up is your lot assignment according to them goes by when you renewed your tickets. Not how long you been a holder which seems silly. By the way I would be a Priority Reserved ticket holder except the fact that if you are 6'3 or bigger try getting into those seats. Your knees are jammed against the chair backs. Also what ever happened to the be a part from the start bricks? I am ranting some but Lot 9 was awesome to park in and play cornhole.

That falls right in line with their new policy of, whoever shows us the money first, gets all the perks. Loyalty means nothing, just show me the money.

  5. Like any bureaucrat, the U of A has no sense of history,or public relations.

I joined the Pacesetters way back when, but the Univ has no record of it, although some individuals remember.

P.S. The Univ has o records of anybody that joined the Pacesetters :(

I remember those days also. I figured this out years ago, all that matters for the bozos who run things, is what are you doing for them now. What you did in the past is meaningless. There is no sense of history. Just because you've been a loyal supporter for 30-40 years, unless you meet their expectations for this year, you are nothing to them. When they told me that I had to donate $5000 to be able to purchase a basketball parking pass for a lot I had been parking in for 20 years, I responded in kind. I dropped my lower reserve seats that cost me $3600($2000Z-Fund) and went with upper level for $800. Net loss to UA of $2800 over a parking space. And all this happened before TW, so its not just him. :(

  6. Generally speaking, we tend to think of those countries that have the worst public debt to gross domestic product percentages as having the weakest economies in the world.

The number one country on this list will be no surprise to anyone. It's Zimbabwe, with a percentage of public debt to GDP of 304%.

The number two country on the list weighs in at 192.1%. You would expect it to be another weak third-world country.

    Can anyone name that country?

Japan, so whats your point? If we continue to follow in their path, the USA will soon be with them.

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20100519/bs_af...apaneconomydebt

TOKYO (AFP) – The International Monetary Fund urged Japan on Wednesday to begin efforts to reduce its huge public debt from April 2011, as the country's fiscal situation comes under increasing scrutiny.

After decades of heavy stimulus spending and declining tax revenue, Japan has a public debt mountain bigger than any other industrialised nation, expected to hit 200 percent of gross domestic product in the next year

  7. This is similar to what happened to Basketball parking a few years ago. As a long time season ticket holder, I was able to purchse a parking pass in lot #8 for $100. Then some brain surgeon decided that to get access to that lot, you had to make a minimum $5000 donation to the Z-Fund. I don't know about you guys, but the idea of paying $5000 for a parking pass didn't seem like such a good investment to me. So instead I pay nothing to park now and use the parking deck. It appears that quite a few other longtime ticket holders felt the same way, because the lot is mostly empty now for games. I probably would have agreed to $200 or maybe even $300, but now they get $0 from me and many others. I parked in lot #13 last year and to me its not as conducive to tailgating as #9, but hey I'm not some highpowered "professional" at athletic event planning. :(

  8. For what it's worth, the Hooters waitress gave us the same breakdown of the area economy.

They should know. Between working at Hooters during the lunch rush and The Doll House from 7-1, those girls make a ton of money.

There were 6 customers and 7 girls working at 12:30 to 1:45 pm on April 12th. I left a decent tip, but if they have to split that, it ain't goin' too far.

    .

You were there in the off season for Myrtle Beach. Most golfers are done by then and its too early for the tourists, school is still in session.

  9. From what I have seen, all the doors are locked and the only way in or out is through the skywalk that connects to the JAR. That tells me that they're preparing for the asbestos removal stage. It could take weeks before it's safe to tear down without giving everyone at UA lung cancer.

The doors really aren't locked, it's said that for a week but they dont actually lock the doors.

Btw, a few hours ago I was playing a few pickup games in Memorial and Quincy Diggs came in and shot around for a while.

Looks like he has a nice shot and a decent wingspan for his size. He was a little shy but very friendly as well. I know a few other ZN.o members were there playing and say him there too.

Yep, I saw him there too. He said it's cold up here(wait til winter). A pick-up player told him he should go to Akron when he was shooting around at a different hoop(Diggs was wearing a Wichita State shirt), and Diggs says he does and he transferred. He's got a big wingspan like RootforRoo44 said, and he looks like he's a better shooter than Hitchens, maybe even better than Brett McKNight or even Steve McNees.

    +1

I haven't seen him shoot...but I mean any D-1 player is gonna knock down his shots with no one on him haha. We'll see how he fares against, you know, defenders. Hopefully he can step in and contribute at that 3 spot.

Again, i know my way around high level basketball and i can tell you that he has a smooth stroke from outside.

It's kind of like if you saw someone that had a pretty swing like Ken Griffey Jr, you'd know he's got something going for him. Trust me, this Diggs guy is a pure shooter.

Thanks for the scouting report, I hope your right about his shooting ability.

  10. I was watching Glee last night and the U was mentioned. It talked about EJ Thomas Hall and Patti Lupone and Mandy Patinkin who my wife and I actually saw at EJ this year as part of the Broadway in Akron series.

    Transcript from Glee:

00:13:55 (school bell rings) I found her.

    00:13:58 Your mother? Where?

    00:14:00 In the library.

00:14:02 I've been researching her all morning, and as I suspected, my intuition has been proven correct.

00:14:07 My mother is Broadway legend Patti Lupone.

00:14:11 I've always had a deep connection to Ms. Lupone-- her choice of roles and songs.

00:14:15 I decided to do a little math to see if her being my mother was even possible.

    00:14:19 I was born December 18, 1994.

00:14:22 1994 was a big year for Mother.

00:14:24 She was a sensation inPal Joey.

00:14:26 But that was in New York; I was born in Ohio, you say.

00:14:29 Well, Mother took many breaks from the show to tour with Mandy Patinkin.

00:14:33 That April found them at the EJ Thomas Hall in Akron, Ohio, for a standing room performance-- nine months before I was born.

00:14:39 Are you saying that your fathers impregnated Patti LuPone in the Marriott in Akron?

00:14:43 Was Mandy Patinkin in on this?

00:14:44 All you have to do is look at pictures of her in her performance inMaster Classin 1996.

00:14:49 Look at the pain in her eyes and the hurt she's feeling from giving up her obviously talented little girl.

00:14:54 One question: What was in it for her?

00:14:58 M-Money, a sense of charity for those in need?

    00:15:04 I don't know.

    00:15:06 Guess you're right.

My wife and I got a good laugh at that one. :)

  11. My big question right now is what position we will see Egner play. It sounds like he has the size to play some PF and the athleticism to play some SF as well. Is he more of a Romeo Travis type where we can play him as a bit of a stretch 4 or is he more of a Nate Linhart where his length and defensive abilities can make him a lockdown SF? Particularly with the recent voids opening up at SG I really wonder if we won't see more of Diggs at SG than initially thought allowing some more playing time for Josh at SF. Just spinning some ideas around here. Certainly a lot can happen between now and the open of the season.

Based on the 3 games I attended it looked like Josh was the defensive catalyst for his team. He patrolled the lane looking for ways to shut down the passing game of the other team and blocking any shot he could get his hands on. After a few minutes of the Toledo St Johns game, it appeared the SJ players were looking over their shoulder every time they went into the lane, looking for Josh to reject their shot. He still needs to put in some work in the weight room, but he should really benefit from playing on the floor with Zeke.

  12. It looks like Akron's bid is not going to be enough to get the games moved to the Info.

    CantonRep

    OHSAA choice down to two

Stark County and Columbus are the finalists being considered to host the 2012-14 Ohio High School Athletic Association state football championships. On Wednesday, OHSAA Director of Information Services Tim Stried confirmed that the committee considering the bids has narrowed the choices to Fawcett Stadium and Paul Brown Tiger Stadium here, or Ohio Stadium.

A site visit to Stark County is June 2. The group will visit Ohio Stadium on June 8. A Board of Control meeting is set for June 10, at which time the board could vote on a recommendation. Cincinnati and Akron made bid proposals to the OHSAA as well.

  13. There's a whole lot more involved in hosting the games than opening the gates to the stadium. The reason the OHSAA doesn't switch venues often is because of all the behind the scenes work that makes these events run smoothly. I hope they leave them in Stark county. Cowlumbus already has tOSU, its more important to spread the wealth.
