  1. Late in the day and on weekends there seems to be a pattern with certain ZN.O posters that their postings start to show signs of slurring and weaving all over the place. Can we get one of those devices where you have to blow into a tube to check you BAC before posting a message. Perhaps there could be a status light next their name that would alert other members of their state of drunkeness. A green light for sober, yellow for a mild buzz and red for totally hammered. That way the other members would know whether to take some of the nonsense posted on here seriously or not.

  2. By Bill Greene

    Ohio recruiting analyst

    Posted Aug 4, 2010

The saga of Erick Howard appears to be just beginning, rather than ending, as the talented tailback has decided to not enroll at Akron, preferring to attend Fork Union Military Academy. Howard, one of the top players in Ohio for the 2010 recruits, is hoping to go through the recruiting process again January. Bill Greene spoke to Howard's high school coach to get the latest.

Erick Howard, of North Canton Hoover HS, finished the 2009 season as one of the top runningbacks in Ohio high school football history, capturing back-to-back Mr. Football awards.

Because of academic concerns, Howard committed to Akron, and was set to join the Zips as a non-qualifier, hoping to become eligible in 2011, but there has been a change in plans.

"I spoke to Erick yesterday, and he told me he is all set to join Fork Union Military Academy," North Canton Hoover head coach Don Hertler stated. "He will report to Fork Union on August 28th. He worked out with us yesterday, and it's pretty apparent he's not in football shape, but he has a few weeks to get that turned around."

Howard spurned an offer from the Zips in order to raise his academic profile, and go through the recruiting process this January.

"Erick was very, very close to qualifying, and if he does well he will be eligible after a few months at Fork Union, not the entire year," Hertler stated. "He could end up back in Akron, but we have to see. There are a lot of schools interested in him, schools like Cincinnati, Louisville, North Carolina, Auburn, and many, many others."

"His talent intrigues a lot of coaches, and he's a likeable kid," Hertler stressed. "Once you meet him in person, you fall in love with kid. His problem was maturity, and he's not a bad kid at all. If he qualifies academically, he can play anywhere in America, because he's THAT good."

One unlikely destination for Howard is Ohio State, although that is not totally ruled out, according to his former head coach.

"Erick was given a plan to get a scholarship from Ohio State, and he didn't get it done academically," Hertler explained. "Is that door still open to Erick? That's tough to say, because in this business, schools roll on without any one player. I will say that Jim Tressel has always been intrigued by Erick. He likes him as a person, and he was intrigued about what Erick could bring to his program. Don't write that there's a good chance at all, but it's accurate to say there is a chance he could sign with Ohio State in January, and be counted in with the 2010 class."

Not to brag, but I told you so! Here is the Fork Union Military Academy football roster. No Erik Howard. This is not a surprise to me, he never was interested in academics.

  3. the only way i m going to another game thise season is a free ticket.im sure by the NIU game we will be 0-4.

if i can get a free ticket then i will go.i am not going to spend another dime at the AU football games this year.

i know they have a new stadium, but this team is worse than last years.that's hard to do.im sure

alott of fans in the final weeks of the season won't want to drop 20 bucks plus parking.

they could be home in a warm house watching any team but the zips.

let me say this was the easiest to read post of yours ever. Thank you. And i agree yes it's brutal watching the zips, let alone paying to watch it.

I think the double spacing helped.

Now if he could just find the Shift key.

  4. Appalachian State, North Dakota State, James Madison, and now Gardner Webb.

FCS Football is good football folks. Many of the recruits at FCS programs are good enough to play in the MAC. Many MAC fans hate to admit that, but it is true. What was the crowd of that game? I watched it online, the place was empty!

    Go away Troll. :nutkick:

  5. Not talkin bout one assistant coach Qz. Talkin about wholesale "changes", none of which at dis time appears mo bettah. KD is one of my favorite Akronites, no doubt, but my view from da i-lawns says da nex'two years are make or break time for UA BB. Unless Gamechanger's li'l one becomes a MAC POY type in the off season of one season, I don't see things gettin any better than last year. 4th place is not an unrealistic pick, given the circumstances. What does Dylan Ennis know that you don't?

What the heck have you been smoking?

  6. I can't understand being worried about a Chicago-area recruit, a 6' 3" guard who can jump out of the gym, who led his team in scoring, rebounds and assists as a Junior.

Zips basketball fans worry about too much. You should be celebrating and popping champagne corks, and instead you're consumed with fear of shooting someone in the eye. B)

  7. Dambrot didn't tell us anything that hasn't already been discussed here.
I'm shocked that ZN members didn't ask any good questions!?! That was my favorite thing about the football outing, I got to ask questions I didn't know the answers to. But sometimes there is that one guy that tries to monopolize the coach's time and ask him dumb question after dumb question and you can't get quality time. "Hey coach, you think Zeke is going to be better next year?", "Hey coach, how's the schedule look?", "Hey coach, are we gunna win the Mac this year?".... :wall:

    If you only knew! :CK_brew:

  8. The GQ article confirmed a couple of things I suspected all along, and answered a couple of remaining questions:

I haven't read the article. The questions I would like to know are:

    1. Do you believe the ESPN special was over the top and would you do it again?

    2. Do you understand why the ESPN special would lead some to believe you are a self-absorbed jackass?

    3. Do you plan on firing the clowns you have managing your career or do you think their idea to have the ESPN special was a good one?

    4. Do you ever plan on marrying the mother of your two children or do you stay single so you can bang girls in every NBA city?

    5. If you win a ring in Miami, do you believe it will be tainted because you were Wade's wingman and you couldn't do it on your own?

I would love someone to ask those questions.

I've never really held leaving Cleveland against LBJ. He is grown man who can do whatever he wants to do. I think the way he did it tells a lot about him and I think we are going to find out a lot more about him when he settles in Miama.....and I think a lot of it may not reflect in a positive way on him.

    +1

  9. Thanks great stuff...expect I'll set up in one of the corners of the Lot. If we bring a small LCD TV and a set of kangaroo (rabbit) ears can we pick up ABC, NBC, CBS, etc??? from Akron?

BTW, if I arrive by 1pm should the lot be pretty vacant so I could set up in one of the corners?

I hope you come by and have one of our famous Hoffman White Coneys...from Syracuse.

Few will arrive to tailgate before 1pm. I'm sure you will have no problem finding a large space to set up.

Since the conversion to digital TV, not all network stations can be easily viewed in Akron. I'm guessing one or two is the best you can hope.

We'll be in Lot #9, directly behind the main scoreboard. If you want to stop in for a beer before you enter the gate, just let me know.

Thanks I'm telling everyone we are tearing down NLT 5pm. I hope to be walking through Lot 9 by 5:30 pm...hopefully enough time to have a quick one. I'd like to be in my seat by kickoff. Man I'm getting excited...hmmmm maybe I'll start setup by Noon. Let's hope for no rain, light winds and 76-78 degrees (just warm enough for the coeds to wear shorts and tank tops).

That sucks about the TV reception.

Mark, just get one of these and you can still watch TV at your tailgate party.
