Ibitayo should have played more minutes this season.
-
The Dials/Joyce/Middleton/Roberts era was arguably the best of Dambrot's tenure. We should have similar quality and depth at guard next season, so maybe that gets us back to when we could beat a Florida State or Temple in the NIT. Can anyone step up and take the #3 spot next year? If we are a combined 4-deep at the #1 and #2, we're 0-deep at the #3. We have 4 bodies, but none took hold of the position in 2014-15.

Diggs/Harney/Treadwell didn't care about the "lesser" tourneys. If they were still around, and I was Dambrot, I'd have declined a bid. But a CIT/CBI bid would have been a good experience for these Zips, had Robotham's injury not occurred. I think this year's team had the moxie and team attitude needed to embrace one of the "other" tourneys and make a run. Without Robotham we could still win a lesser-tourney game, I guess. Those tourneys are full of teams afflicted with DiggsHarneyTreadwell-itis, ripe for the picking by a young, motivated team. But 1 win is pretty-much it. Hoist another CBI/CIT 4" x 6" banner into the JAR rafters, and move on to 2015-16...

If Dambrot wants more foul calls, he needs to trade his 3-balls for shots in the paint. Simple as that. Then, he needs guys that can hit their free throws.
-
You guys forget - even if we lose the next 2 games, the CIT awaits. Yet another opportunity to reach the vaunted 20-win plateau, beating up on the 8th place Horizon League team. Hopefully they're a lot worse than the MAC's 8-place team.

If you are going to include the "loss" of Harney in your list, why not bemoan Betancourt's crippling departure?

And we have a winner in the category "All-time Most Misleading Statistic." Kudos to whomever had the deceptive gall to pen that one.

GT on Zips' Lack of a Go-To Scorer
Captain Kangaroo replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
You don't suddenly miss someone who's been out since mid-November. You miss someone who's been here since mid-November, contributing mightily, and who's suddenly gone. Our recent slide has as much to do with Tree as it does Harney. -
GT on Zips' Lack of a Go-To Scorer

You'd go with Tree over Robotham, huh? Bizarre observation after 28 games. -
If by MACC you mean a "Memory About Coleman Crawford," I'm in agreement.
-
I agree. Like 3-week old milk.

When your as deadly as the Zips are from the 3 point line, you gotta hang out at 40 feet.

"The Zips are gonna blow it." "Holy Crip Crap" Go Frenchy.

Zips Basketball with Keith Dambrot
Captain Kangaroo replied to MaxZIP's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Can someone post that on the Zips locker room door? -
They have plenty of experience on a "big stage." They've beaten Iowa, Northwestern, Virginia Tech and Wichita State. They would kill Toledo. Not like VCU killed the Zips, but certainly by 15+.

GT on Zips' Lack of a Go-To Scorer
Captain Kangaroo replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I contend just because you have a "system" doesn't mean you can't have a PTP'er that can create his own shot when you need a bucket at the end of a tight game. "The Man" is an alpha dog that commands the ball with 8 seconds left and drains the tear-drop jumper...drives the lane and gets the foul...has the knee-buckling cross-over dribble that gets him some space... The Zips haven't had that type of player since Jamie Bosley. Juice Brown is that type of player. -
GT on Zips' Lack of a Go-To Scorer
Captain Kangaroo replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Everyone thought Bowden had a great season...until he lost 5 of his last 6. The verdict on Dambrot's 2014-15 season will not be rendered until it is over. An 8-game losing streak to end the season would not draw many hosannas from the Zips faithful. -
I think that's 48 more than the last time I saw him play?

You're an awesome talent, Noah. Look forward to seeing you stronger and better than ever in November!

Mens/Womens doubleheader Saturday
Captain Kangaroo replied to zippyball's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Highlight of Saturday Night for me - 23 oz., $3.75 New Castle Brown Ales at B-Dubs. There's no women's basketball game that can hold a candle to that one. -
Thanks for the insight. Makes sense. Too bad Evans took himself out of the game Saturday night. He would have been in line to get Noah's minutes. Wonder if it is a 1-game thing, or if he's done? We'll get the story. I'm sure George Thomas is on it like a hash tag on Team Ohio.

Mitch Hedberg once observed: "Wearing a turtleneck is like being strangled by a really weak guy, all day. Wearing a backpack and a turtleneck is like a weak midget trying to bring you down." Last night I saw a really weak midget bring the Zips down. Miami was the weakest team to beat the Zips at home since Bryan Hipsher missed those 2 FT's against EMU about 12 years ago. Shot selection was horrific. Poise down the stretch was horrific. 20 turnovers? Against a really soft press. We had 8.5 seconds left to get a shot off, and couldn't even make an inbound pass? What's with Robotham scrapping with the trainer? We take the ball inside and we score all day. Instead, we hoist 3 after 3 after 3. What was Ibitayo thinking when he turned down the drive to the hoop and kicked it out to Kwan for the 3 at the end of regulation? We needed 1 point to win, and he's kicking it out to a 30% 3-point shooter? Miami wanted the win more than the Zips. They were more poised. And they made their free throws. So despite having comparatively worse talent and depth, and playing on the road, they won. Maybe the Zips learn more from this loss than they would have if Kwan's 3 would have fallen? That's the only possible silver lining in this one.

Toledo can have this last-second shot. But it doesn't beat Humpty's against them.

Is it football's fault? Or is it the perpetually bungled handing of our D1 football program the problem? If InfoCision is the problem, do you just throw your hands up and quit? Or do you figure it out? I could go on and on here, but I'll stop. Not worth it.

Mens/Womens doubleheader Saturday

They need to sell beer at the women's game. Or allow you to bring in your own food and beer. Then I'd skip the bar to watch the women's game.
