44 year old guys tweeting kids about their feet is as creepy as it gets. I ain't touchin' it. You can feet-tweet. -

Oh...no....a Zach Injury Report...Thankfully, no player mentioned in a ZIR has ever actually been injured. 18 year old's with minor rolled ankles in July have a good track record of being good-to-go by mid-October. -

Good thought process here. The taller, longer and more athletic guy can't get his steals without a guy like AA. "A Bad Decision" is Chapter 2 in the turnover story. "Applying Pressure" is Chapter 1. When there is no pressure, decisions are easy. Apply some pressure and they are much more difficult....I don't care what sport it is.I'd take bring the ball up the court against a pesky little guy over a long-armed, athletic guy any day of the week. As a guard, passing the ball against a guy with a 6' 9" wingspan sucks. -

KD is a defensive guy, so I guess if the guy can D-up, he'll get some minutes. If he does get minutes, I hope it's more than what Egner received last season. That was, for the most part, a waste. Not KD's fault...it was a direct result of B McKnight's uncertain eligibility status...but, to paraphrase Iron Maiden, a wasted year none-the-less. -
I voted for Ianello, who's obviously not a player. But his growth as a head coach will dictate whether 2011 is a respectable season for Zips football, or another abject failure.I look at a lot of the stuff he did last season...the FG attempt against Syracuse on 4th and 2. The FG positioning @ K.e.n.t. when we had PLENTY of time to get 7 points within the red zone (before half time). Kicking off twice against a 1-AA team. Losing to a bad 1-AA team at home. I'll stop there. It will be highly interesting to see if Ianello actually tries to win games this season, or if he's comfortable in his contract situation, and relationship with the AD, playing conservative and captaining that slow, methodical program-building process that we all know and love. Maybe the wins come in a couple years?

Harsh. Pretty much everything was wrong last year. No bright spots. Pn7 is not the only zip at fault.Brian Wagner only won 1 game last year. Is he a loser too?

I like Nicely. I think he was dealt an impossible set of circumstances over his brief 2-year stint.I expect him to be our starting QB at Ohio State. If his receivers can't get open, run wrong routes, or consistently drop the ball he'll have a rough season. Ditto if the OL can't adequately protect. Moore won't fare any better.Nicely is a terrible runner. If Moore is at least elusive, that's the only edge I'll give him. And elusive, running QB's don't last long. Ask Matt Rogers.

Dambrot mentioned this at a golf outing back in 2008. He was pretty pumped about it. Then the recession hit, and the plans got shelved.Somewhere in the bowels of ZN.o there's a recap of mine from that golf outing.

Seven starters were lost for the season that day. That was back when we were still fielding a lot of 1-AA players. We've played scores of Top 10 teams in the 2 decades since that game without any notable injuries. We're fine with conditioning, durability and size vs. Top 10 opponents. We just lack the speed, athleticism, depth and...about everything else.

When did this happen? I never heard of that. Hilltopper exaggerates a bit, but the Andrick-Hipsher steel cage match is well-know to be the point where Thunder Dan jumped the shark.

His dad's consecutive-games-attended streak appears to be coming to an end. Good luck Steve!

Did the source have a pointy hat?

How could I forget that one?

The triple overtime Xavier game, where Ali Kart missed the wide open 10ft bank shot for the win comes to mind. Anthony Stacey, Brandon Hunter and Jose Davis's Hipsher-killing daggers are also permanently etched in my brain. Kyrem Massey's elbow to the face of Jamie Bosley at center court was a gem. Jimmal Ball vs. Earl Boykins was cool. Bryan Hipsher breaking his 0-29 streak of 3-pointers The debut of 20ppg, 20rpg recruit Neerim Djemboli was a can't miss (if you blinked, you missed it). The McFadden vs. McLaughlin game was the most electric game in the history of the JAR. I saw Prong open up for Ozzy back in 1990...that was cool. Bud Light Daredevils and the Red Panda unicyclists were always a winning halftime show. People still talk about my 13-point intramural outburst against The Storm Troopers of Death. And who can forget the Milliken game?

Where's the "Akron Football Night?"
Captain Kangaroo replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Those who profess to favor freedom and yet depreciate agitation, are people who want crops without ploughing the ground; they want rain without thunder and lightning; they want the ocean without the roar of its many waters. The struggle may be a moral one, or it may be a physical one, or it may be both. But it must be a struggle. Power concedes nothing without a demand; it never has and it never will. Zips to face Huggins this year
Captain Kangaroo replied to ZipGoTheZippers!'s topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Wonder no more. There is no chance WVA ever comes to the JAR. K.e.n.t. fans have a better chance of having a felon-free roster. We took this game because WVA waved a bunch of money around. We can only wave coupons for $1 hot dogs in front of Huggins. That's not enough. More than likely it is just a 1 off game with WVU ponying up some cash to bring in the Zips. Best case scenario would be a 2 for 1 or 3 for 1 kind of scenario with us eventually getting a return game at the Q, but that is highly, HIGHLY unlikely. Think of it as being this years equivalent of last seasons Minnesota game. I'll be more clear. I spoke to a coach. West Virginia is not traveling to Akron. Ever. -
Where's the "Akron Football Night?"

Dr. Proenza hired the janitors of football. He is at fault for the problem we now experience with football. I don't see any other way to slice it. Tw might not be the best for football he Is doing well in other areas. Dr. P takes risks and expects returns. I don't see any the way to slice it. Not a big tw fan but he has not been all bad. I coach on the other hand is failing plain and simple. He was a tw hire so Dr. P will probably have to pressure tw to fire I coach early. Accountability Proenza is an amazing intellectual. He has vision that's borderline paranormal. But the guy doesn't know jack about football. He knows the importance good football can contribute to the University. But the nuts and bolts of how to form a successful football program is one attribute the guy lacks. So, he relies on consulting firms and the advice of others when it comes to football. And it hasn't worked out. Accountability is great. In principle. But there are Accountants who look at the football budget and say "We can't afford to pull the plug...we're stuck with this guy." Proenza won't approve terminating Ianello's contract with any more than 1-year remaining. Hell...UA sabotaged our 2009 season in hopes of saving JD's $250k in salary. That shows me the the reality of what finances can control at the corner of Brown and East Exchange. If the Zips go 1-11 in 2011, Ianello isn't going anywhere. And if he goes 4-8 in 2012, expect a contract extension. I don't see it playing out any differently. -

Where's the "Akron Football Night?"

I am through with going out of my way to assist this UA regime. They don't care, so why should I? I renewed my Football season tix. I paid for the parking pass. I gave to the Z-Fund. I'll renew my basketball tix, and hit a fair share of the soccer matches. I'll hit the Basketball Golf Outing. We keep ZN.o running, giving UA fans a place to discuss their team. I do a lot more for UA than 99.975% of the people in Summit County, so I feel whole. But as far as organizing any time-consuming stuff....forget it. I have enough going on in my life without adding the burden of doing other people's work. Maybe the next administration will be like the Thomas regime and re-energize me. I'd have walked a thousand miles for those guys, because I knew they'd do the same for The Fan. That's just not the case in 2011. Looking forward to "2012 Ladies Football 101 @ InfoCision." It should be awesome. -

Because it is an embarrassing, crappy event attended only by about 70 UA employees and their wives. Why show a big fat puss-laden scab, if you can place a t-shirt over it? Women's Football 101. That's our showcase event to promote Zips Football for the past 2 seasons. F-ing kill me. -
Just like Ryan Bain?

It was an X-11 series too!

The Captain's 1981 Chevy Citation used to rock to Herbie back-in-the-day. Future Shock tests your woofer's limits.

If we played them in X-Box and lost by that margin, I'd be equally concerned.

Feel free to bring this post back to the top in late-March 2012. You can bring it up all you want. I didn't say he wouldn't, I said he is a long way from the NBA. Lots of good players never make the NBA or any other sports league. It's easy to look at stats of a 20-year old and say "he's a long way from the NBA." Everyone knows it. It's more interesting and insightful to project future performance. Big men develop slow, and Zeke's on pace with just about every other lanky 7-footer to play NBA ball. This is his watershed year. I'm guessing it's a good one...unless he gets some Serbian girlfriend to distract him.
