You look at statistics. I look at the game.

It isn't asking too much to see a D-1 QB throw a nice deep ball. You don't need to be Favre or Marino. Or thread the pass through a donut hole. LR8 hasn't thrown any decent deep pass this season. That lack of a deep threat hurts our offense. I don't care if he's throwing late...gets too much air under the ball...throws it too short...<insert whatever deficiency here>. He's shown no ability to stretch the defense thusfar.

Good generalization of the QB situation as it relates to the WR's. LR8 can evade a rush. He can get a 1st down with is feet...although he's no where near an Edelmann-type running threat. His short range passes are "ok." His arm strength is a few yards short of "ok." He gets balls swatted-down too much. Nicely's accuracy is suspect, but not any worse than LR8 has shown thusfar. He can't make any plays with his feet. But he stands tall in the pocket, and throws a nice deep ball. A few nice deep passes would really loosen-up the defense and help Chisholm's chances of busting some big runs. LR8 is Ianello's guy. There's no debate. But he's no better or worse than a 2010 Nicely. Just a completely different skill set.

John Carson - dead. Emmanuel Smith - dead. Hollingsworthless - jail That should elevate Hipsher to be the odds-on successor to Senderroff @ K.e.n.t.?

He and Russell were indistinguishable last season. Sconiers has elevated his game a bit, but Russell appears to have leveled-out. Too bad Suel isn't healthy...Sconiers/Suel wouldn't be a bad #1, #2 combo. Opportunity for Jarrod Dillard to earn some PT. He's getting better too.

And for Homecoming, Captain Kangaroo will be visiting the room where he took his first MUM class. Or, the room where I took Calc I for the 3rd time ("B+" on the 3rd try, baby!).

I predict we see 170 yards passing this Saturday. That's 510 feet!

Whenever the OU band is discussed, I'm compelled to take a short trip down memory lane...

I am in the camp that Nicely could be more-effective than Moore. I haven't given up on PN7. But - I also figure that beating that dead horse on the Internet would be embarrassing to PN7, and actually work against him ever seeing the field again. So I sit and see how the LR8 experiment plays out. And, I wonder if D'Orazio is any good.

This has all been beaten into the ground in the past, but to really pack the JAR the Zips need to get on an early-season roll. And sustain it. Beat a BCS opponent. Start whipping the other opponents. Start the season 13-2...beat someone like West Virginia and/or VCU...beat CSU...that gets butts-in-seats. "Nice" seasons, where we beat no marquee opponents and have 4 to 7 MAC losses are proven to get us 3,500 butts-in-seats for about everyone except K.e.n.t. That's just the way it is.

@ BigZip - There are more people in my office cubical than there are at an actual game in Akron.

I don't see all that many fans in their stands @ halftime? Poor Flag Line play. Hopefully the Flagger second-from-far-right was a sub?

While I don't have a marinade recipe (I usually just go with a feel), I would suggest any recipe that has olive oil, lime juice and hot pepper as a gauge. Add some sugar or honey, garlic powder and salt to Johnny's three ingredients above, and you are in good shape. If you have no lime, go with a vinegar. My hot pepper choice is Sriracha.

The bar for a "signature win" has certainly been lowered. But FIU is a solid team that won a bowl game vs. a MAC program last December, so I will bestow the "signature win" moniker upon them. The truth is...we will be an underdog in every game we play for the remainder of this season (maybe K.e.n.t. is a pick'em), and for all of the upcoming 2012 season too. Any D-1A win is a signature win. I don't see Moore doing anything but 50% and 200yds. Unless we're down 40, like Cincinnati. Then he can put up some respectable 4th quarter stats and give the faithful's Kool-aid Bong™ some fluid. If Moore is any good, FIU is a break out game for him. We have a chance. If he's Moore-of-the-Same, we get waxed.

Wow. How can this offense grow when an already-inexperienced group is missing so many pieces? We're paying someone $350,000 this season to figure that stuff out. This week is a mid-2000's "Akron vs. Marshall" type game. Our record is bad. FIU's is very good. We're at home and desperate for a signature win. This is where LR8 needs to shine. He needs to carry the team with his feet and arm. If he completes passes at a 50% clip again, and throws for less than 200 yards again, we lose by 30. No excuses. The Zips need to defend their "house" this Saturday. Another ass-whipping-game-over-at-halftime result isn't an option.

Remember that a big reason why Wistercill was hired was his connection the The University of Minnesota, whom he helped sell-out their brand new outdoor stadium. It was assumed that he could bring that magic to InfoCision. I thought about the irony, as I watched North Dakota State dominate the Golden Gophers in that same stadium a couple weeks ago. He has certainly brought the Minnesota magic...

I'm starting to see a lot of coverage of Mentor's Mitch Trubisky in the Cleveland papers. His dad Dave was in several of my classes @ UA, and if there were an Akron Intramural Hall of Fame, he'd be a 1st ballot enshrinee. He was always on the flag football teams that made the National finals, and always on the top intramural hoops teams. Excellent athlete. His son seems WAY above UA, but you never know. If I were Ianello, I'd start recruiting Mitch yesterday. His pop is a UA alum, and a big Zips supporter.

Believe in "The Plan." We are losing games at a breakneck pace, so we're just like Al Golden and Temple. Championships a-plenty are just around the corner.

Oh, the typing and typing and typing...

Xavier, Dayton, Temple and St Joes have all played the Zips, in the JAR.

Actually Cap'n, some of the best baseball quotes come from politics! Can you believe, she wasn't talking about his son? Wow. Ann Richards. One of the original Lee sisters. This seems to tell another story about the quote. Next, you guys are going to tell me ZipsWin! didn't coin the phrase "Rearranging the Chairs on the Titanic?"
