Akron vs. Cleveland State

You've never been to the Winking Lizard?I heard there's a new restaurant called "Applebee's" in the area too. Anyone ever heard of it? -
Akron vs. Cleveland State
Captain Kangaroo replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Good ideaToo bad there isn't any watering hole in the CSU vicinity. Is The Rascal House still open?Everything near The Q is a serious walk to the Wollstein center...at least in Cleveland, during the winter, it can be pretty rough.Tailgate Party, anyone? -
Why no discussion about Brian Wagner on Nagurski watch?
Captain Kangaroo replied to K92's topic in Akron Zips Football
I know it brother. I saw an epic post some Kool Aid chugging guy posted in the O$U thread. THAT guy's gotta start focusing on the Zips! -
The old-timers here frequently write about the Mackey-Huggins, McFadden/McLughlin era. It now seems to be back, in a big way. I see the Zips/CSU tilt this year being an 8k+ crowd...with maybe even 10k being possible. Absolutely electric environment. The Cleveland media will push it hard. It's fun to see two really strong, NCAA Tourney-caliber basketball programs in NE Ohio again. K.e.n.t.'s still slightly visible in the rear-view mirror...but they're fading fast.

Are all the gravel UA lots getting paved? Or just this one?
-
A lot of families have Saturday morning sporting events to attend with their kids, so later game starts are nice. The 7am tailgate starts were fun when the Zips were competitive...but not so much lately.

$246,000 to resurface the entire lot? What a steal. Of course it begs the questions, why pave a lot that is essentially unused on game days...and where's this quarter-million dollars coming from?Paved or not, I don't care. As long as I have a place for a couple tables, a tent and a cooler, I'm satisfied. At least the empty lot will look nicer from Exchange Street.

Former 2012 Commit PF Gary Akbar
Captain Kangaroo replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
He's 17 years old. Do you think he can bulk-up a little? Also - Since he's played DE and TE in high school, I have to believe his 200lbs is distributed a little differently than my 200lbs. Knowing very little about the kid other than stats and press clippings, I predict some very clean glass at the JAR between 2012-2016. -
Anyone else follow Howard Stern, and remember Dr. Remulak?

I would disagree. At 6' 5", and judging from is Jr season stats, being from Dunbar, the kid isn't a project. He's ready to rebound now.6' 5" is a really common size in the MAC. For him to commit in July means we really wanted him. I'd expect a double-double average from him in his upcoming senior HS season. I know KD has been searching for "The Next Wood/Travis" for a couple years. Akbar looks to fit the bill. -

Interesting that he played football, at DE and TE. Listed at 6' 3" 225lbs as a HS Soph, so I guess I'll believe the 6' 5" height being published today.Vs. Buchtel - 16 reboundsCould he be The Next Jeremiah Wood? We'll know after his redshirt season, I guess. -

And Owens. I don't personally know anyone who views our athletic success in a positive light during his tenure.Hey, he wasn't the one who hired Crawford or Faust. Give him a break. -

LOL? OMG, BZ!? ROTFLMAO! -
Just a short note as I put my moderator hat on for the first time in about a year --1.) Talk politics in another forum. Talk Zips in this forum.2.) It takes two to tango. If someone post something political in a Zips forum, and another member responds, and the Zips-related topic is derailed, the responder is equally at fault as the originator. Do you really need to defend your politics in a thread discussing Patrick Nicely or Zeke? Really? Would anyone die if you just let it go?Thanks,CK

44 year old guys tweeting kids about their feet is as creepy as it gets. I ain't touchin' it. You can feet-tweet. -

Oh...no....a Zach Injury Report...Thankfully, no player mentioned in a ZIR has ever actually been injured. 18 year old's with minor rolled ankles in July have a good track record of being good-to-go by mid-October. -

Good thought process here. The taller, longer and more athletic guy can't get his steals without a guy like AA. "A Bad Decision" is Chapter 2 in the turnover story. "Applying Pressure" is Chapter 1. When there is no pressure, decisions are easy. Apply some pressure and they are much more difficult....I don't care what sport it is.I'd take bring the ball up the court against a pesky little guy over a long-armed, athletic guy any day of the week. As a guard, passing the ball against a guy with a 6' 9" wingspan sucks. -

KD is a defensive guy, so I guess if the guy can D-up, he'll get some minutes. If he does get minutes, I hope it's more than what Egner received last season. That was, for the most part, a waste. Not KD's fault...it was a direct result of B McKnight's uncertain eligibility status...but, to paraphrase Iron Maiden, a wasted year none-the-less. -
I voted for Ianello, who's obviously not a player. But his growth as a head coach will dictate whether 2011 is a respectable season for Zips football, or another abject failure.I look at a lot of the stuff he did last season...the FG attempt against Syracuse on 4th and 2. The FG positioning @ K.e.n.t. when we had PLENTY of time to get 7 points within the red zone (before half time). Kicking off twice against a 1-AA team. Losing to a bad 1-AA team at home. I'll stop there. It will be highly interesting to see if Ianello actually tries to win games this season, or if he's comfortable in his contract situation, and relationship with the AD, playing conservative and captaining that slow, methodical program-building process that we all know and love. Maybe the wins come in a couple years?

Harsh. Pretty much everything was wrong last year. No bright spots. Pn7 is not the only zip at fault.Brian Wagner only won 1 game last year. Is he a loser too?
-
I like Nicely. I think he was dealt an impossible set of circumstances over his brief 2-year stint.I expect him to be our starting QB at Ohio State. If his receivers can't get open, run wrong routes, or consistently drop the ball he'll have a rough season. Ditto if the OL can't adequately protect. Moore won't fare any better.Nicely is a terrible runner. If Moore is at least elusive, that's the only edge I'll give him. And elusive, running QB's don't last long. Ask Matt Rogers.

Dambrot mentioned this at a golf outing back in 2008. He was pretty pumped about it. Then the recession hit, and the plans got shelved.Somewhere in the bowels of ZN.o there's a recap of mine from that golf outing.
