  1. Interesting to hear the names of Paul Skolmutch and Shane Shead mentioned as noteworthy? And I believe I saw some Monster Hair flying around? If Cosgrove can coax some quality minutes out of guys that were historically nailed to the bench, it would be impressive to me. Nice to have a fresh set of eyes evaluating the guys.
  2. I can't believe Zipmeister missed that one. Very disappointed.
  3. I thought that counter trap play that Owens used to run (very effectively) pulled the center?
  4. Center is a more cerebral position than Guard. Beyond blocking, more position-specific techniques are required of a Center: handling the ball, shotgun snaps, calling-out defenses etc. I think a Center's adjustment to the Guard position is MUCH easier than a Guard's transition to the Center position.
  5. Experience. This will make them better in the future. "Building" reply post in 3.... 2... 1....
  6. It will be nice to go into the horseshoe this September with an offensive line full of 1st year players who've practiced together for a total of 4 weeks.
  7. Then why did K.e.n.t. fans not protest "The Play"? Are you saying K.e.n.t. fans are somehow better than Akron fans? Rasor is the only person in the free world that saw some controversial, protestable travesty at the end of that game. I'm still waiting for a description of "The Play." Ford didn't grouse at the end of the game because, believe it or not, there was nothing to grouse about. End of non-story.
  8. In hindsight, McNees should have laid on the ground instead of putting a hand in the shooter's face. Just to eliminate the horrible, tragic "controversy." I love the Rasor blog, but sucking up to Ford and fabricating valor is pretty weak. I know he wants to be a sports writer one day...and you want to have Ford on your "Fave 5" in the unlikely event he's ever coaching at a major program (after the Bradley gig)...but come on.... Maybe it's just "Zips Fan's Guilt"... where a Zips fan is so used to losing these types of games they just don't know how to handle coming out on top? Could be a coping mechanism...I don't know... God Bless Steve "The Hacker" McNees
  9. From The Rasor Blog, speaking of Gino Ford: Can someone tell me anything controversial about the last play of that game? What happened that merited a protested outcome?! Why is it such a laudable attribute to simply accept defeat? Has society reached the point where basic sportsmanship is such a commendable act? K.e.n.t. got beat in a great game. No "phantom fouls" or "no-calls"...no clock operator negligence...time simply expired and K.e.n.t. didn't score enough points to win. End of story. Actually, as far as end-of-game play controversy goes, there was no story. Important notes for any idiot are listed below: 1.) The scuffle after the game wasn't a "play." 2.) Video of the Zips celebration as the clock expired showed a couple Zips players accidentally stepped on K.e.n.t. players that were laying on the ground. The Zips players temporarily stopped their celebration, and immediately apologized. As far as controversial plays go...those with "protestable" game outcomes...where would YOU rate the 2011 MAC Championship game's final play? On a scale of 1-10, "1" being completely devoid of controversy and "10" being an out-and-out criminal act, I rate it a "1."
  10. Our OOC schedule last season was fine...we just lost all the games that mattered. BTW - Any talk of a Zips' at-large NCAA bid is valid with Zeke in his Junior and Senior seasons. If anyone says an at-large is not possible, they're a low-aimer.
  11. Igor was the #5 rated high school kicker in the entire USA, and made 16-19 his Freshman year at UA...then he opted for that Rick Ankiel foot surgery, and it all went to hell....bet he regrets it.
  12. You could actually watch the same two college teams play 7 consecutive games? I'd rather stab my eyes out.
  13. Were the Packers the best NFL team over the course of the past regular season? Have the Indians ever had a great regular season record, then lost in the playoffs? Have the Cavs ever had a top regular season record, then lost in the NBA playoffs? The best teams in the regular season are irrelevant. Regardless of sport. It's what you do in the playoffs that counts.
  14. It was interesting to see another mid-major crap down their leg and experience an epic drought against high-major competition. Hey...Butler held UConn to 53 points. I give 'em a little credit for that one.
  15. I can tell you we didn't recruit him. So there's really no reason to follow the kid. You might want to try an Akron High School web site. Losers blow games. Winners win them. YSU basketball is a perennial loser. Ricky Johnson Jr. ain't gonna change it. To paraphrase the great ZipsWin!, YSU bringing in new basketball recruits each season is pretty much akin to rearranging chairs on the Titanic. My advice -- Cut your basketball program and use the money to move up to D1-A football.
  16. Nate a Hoser?
  17. Ummm...probably not. Look at the rafters of Beeghley Center. There isn't one men's basketball-related banner of any sort. I'm glad Penguin Guy is high from sniffing the coat-tails of a Bulldog, but let's be real...Youngstown couldn''t produce a decent basketball player, or team, if given a billion pounds of oily penguin food for a billion years. Please post more links to a team that would need to win 10 more games to get a CBI bid.
  18. Brian Wagner had a major impact on all games last year. The '69 Mets have nothing on The Amazing Zach.
  19. Man, I've had easier times reading racer's posts.
  20. His salary is fine. Whatever UA pays him is roughly 1/3 what a school like Dayton can afford. There will always be someone out there that will pay him more money, regardless of his salary. Whether he stays or goes is totally up to KD. Does KD see Dayton as "the old man's last chance to cash in?" Does KD see Dayton as the old man's last realistic shot at making a career-defining, deep NCAA tourney run? Does KD see Dayton as as, worst case, $5,000,000 dollars in his pocket after 5 seasons (a la Waters @ Rutgers). Or, is KD happy being the King of Akron, winning 20 games, returning to UA for the next 2 seasons with Zeke making some local hoops history? Are his local roots enough to turn down a $700,000 raise? His 401k might be doing great, but it ain't gonna appreciate by $3.5 million over the next 5 years, like his salary would if he moved only 3 1/2 hours away to SW Ohio. All I know is -- I haven't heard KD publicly deny interest in the job. I won't rest easy until I hear KD deny interest. Or I hear Zach the Zip state "KD accepted the Dayton job." Either would mean KD's staying at UA.
