He can carry the team when he's stroking his 3 with confidence...as we saw last season. And he can really take us out of games when his 3-point shot flies like a Phil Neikro knuckle ball.

The 3-star rating is from ESPN. I stand corrected. If the "stars" thing goes anywhere beyond Sneetches, I admit I'm probably not the best resource.

From what I understand, you are mostly correct. Had the student athlete taken a full course load (12 credits), regardless of any practice or association with the team, he would not be eligible after a transfer without losing a year's eligibility. I'll guess this kid did not take a full course load at Ball State in Fall 2010. Thus his 5-year clock has not yet begun. And he can play this fall, and three seasons thereafter. Actually, he could redshirt in 2011, and start his Freshman season @ Akron in 2012, with three years to play thereafter. I'm sure he expects to play this fall, however. The extra year's eligibility does give him the availability of a medical redshirt, should he get injured in 2011, 2012 or 2013.

Thanks for keeping tabs on recruiting, Zach! Will Rodnell be eligible to play immediately, or must he sit for a year? From the day you enroll in a school you have 5 years to play 4. Thus he should not be available to play for the Zips until Fall 2012, since he needs to sit out a full calendar year. He can practice, but not play. Maybe there's a way that he can take a full summer school load and be eligible...but I don't think so. If we made a bowl game in 2011, I believe he could play in the game since his 2nd full Akron semester would be completed. But isn't this different since he is a greyshirt? That's basically a walkon for the first year. If he never had a scholly, it shouldn't matter. 1.) I don't know whether or not he was actually a greyshirt. I know he was a late-qualifier. But it would be quite a steal to get a Rivals 3-star to come to a MAC campus without a scholarship. Not impossible, but very unlikely. 2.) Regardless of anything...the moment you enroll, and step on a given campus, the NCAA clock starts. Scholarship or no scholarship. If BuckZip never played a down of football for the Zips, never even attended a practice...just attended school, then transferred to Ohio State to play football after 3 years @ UA, he would have 1 year of eligibility at Ohio State regardless of whether or not he ever played football at UA.

Ianello has thusfar delivered on his promise to hit Glenville hard. He's seemingly disrupted Ball State's Glenville-Muncie pipeline. However, Ball State has been terrible since Brady Hoke departed. It will be interesting to see if Ianello can produce better results with Glenville talent than Ball State could muster (5 Glenville kids --> 4 wins in 2010).

Same as former Zips QB Luke Getsy (Walt Harris wouldn't release him from Pitt). Out of State tuition is a real hit to the pocket book. Especially after having a free ride. For that reason, I'll predict he ends up at Temple.

Just basketball? I would say J Ball was a real athlete, he did things on the court I haven't seen since he left. If we extend it to football, D Smith. I have yet to see anybody dominate a game like he did at Ken+. Marcel Boyce...Anthony Buford...Jason Taylor...Eric McLaughlin...Joe Jakubik...Christie Smith...Bill Turner...I'm sure I'm missing about 30 others. Let's not hoist any jersey's to the rafters just yet...a short-handed Oral Roberts abused us in the paint last night. Zeke is 0-2 vs. K.e.n.t. A nice 1st pull (of the requisite 20) on the rafter hoist would be to key the start of a multi-game win streak vs. the F.lashes on Saturday.

When was the last time the Zips brought any sort of intensity to a K.e.n.t game? K.e.n.t has intimidated us big-time over the past 2 seasons.

Serious question -- Will this exodous hurt the Zips program with regard to graduation rates? Does the NCAA nail UA because kids aren't graduating...even though they are turning pro?

The worst Zips teams beat K.e.n.t 8 out of 10 football seasons.Pretty much any of the top 100 D-1A...and Top 50 1-AA programs can beat K.e.n.t's football team 5 consecutive times. It isn't that big an accomplishment. Beating Ohio State in football is a historic event. Silencing 105,000 people is a lot more impressive than silencing 10,500 K.e.n.t fans. There's no decision to be made - You take a shock the world win over Ohio State any day of the week. Would an Appalacian State fan trade their win against Michigan for anything? No. Would I trade 5 K.e.n.t basketball wins for one over Ohio State? I probably wouldn't. Beating K.e.n.t 5 consecutive times is just as difficult as beating Ohio State once. Plus the bragging rights carry more weight...it would kill K.e.n.t Fan to lose to Akron 5-in-a-row. K.e.n.t Fan doesn't care about football.

0-2. Left nut remains intact. Zips played a nice tourney. 2-1 is what was to be expected. However, this team needs McNees to wake up. He's going to get his 30 minutes per game the remainder of the season, and take his 6-12 shots per game. If he has a 20% 3-point percentage at year's end, we're looking at another CBI bid. The Zips have a lot of work to do between now and the K.e.n.t. game. We've played terrible at home. And K.e.n.t. is the type of team that gives us the most trouble...yes...the dreaded "athletic" team. At work I bet a lunch with two guys...K.e.n.t. Fan and NIU Fan...on every Zips vs. <K.e.n.t. or NIU> basketball and football game. I took a lunch time beating in 2010. It has to change in 2011. I hope Brett McKnight gets his team ready for the K.e.n.t. game. K.e.n.t's waxed us the past 2 years. It has to stop on January 8th.

It would be an amazing effort to beat a Big East team when we are playing Miami(FL) out of the ACC. You ruined it...now Zipmeister won't have anything to post today!

Can the Zips muster the effort and focus necessary to beat a Big East team? Can they avoid the dreaded 8-minute scoring drought? Those are the two Keys to the Game: 1.) Have a swagger to compete, and don't play timid 2.) Avoid "Dry Pouch" Stealing a line from GoZips.com: "Only 3 hours and 45minutes until kick-off!!"

Always good to see the Zips win in the manner they should win.

Siena beats Georgia Tech. Even though Siena has had their share of recent left-nutters, I still givin' 'em one here.

You can also see that CSU backed off their Miami-esque Murder's Row schedule policy and reeled off 12-straight to begin this year. Our schedule had been too soft in the past. It is ok now. If we really feel Zeke and Gilliam and Harney and Walsh and Treadwell + all these other guys are going to be something special, I hope we kick our scheduling up a notch next season too.

Who will Thunder Dan be rooting for in this match up? And who knew he was @ Alabama? *Roll Tide* (that ESPN commercial cracks me up for some reason)
