Like many other things about Zeke, it all comes down to potential. No different than any other player with 1.3 years of college ball under their belt.
-
Big men develop slowly. They always have, and always will. From what I've seen of Zeke this season, he's WAY ahead of where he was last season. And I expect his progression will be similar when comparing 2010-11 to 2011-12. I posted on Kaman and Edwards, since those are the most appropriate comparisons. The same can be done for 96% of the collegiate 7-footers out there.

Honor This Team on January 8th
Captain Kangaroo replied to UAZip0510's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
1.) I doubt any fans would head to the bathroom if the soccer team were being honored. 2.) Is CLE Hopkins open today? I think it would be a good idea to honor them at the Bethune Cookman game, only because it would help the basketball attendance dramatically. That said, that's a bad reason to do it. The soccer team needs it's own recognition event. Plan on 1,000 attending. Hold it in the InfoCision tower, and do it right. No cold pizza and chicken wing buffet on the JAR floor. -
NBA All-Star and Former CMU Chipp Chris Kaman's College Stats Sophomore season -- 11.8ppg / 8rpg Former K.e.n.t. Center and NBA Player John Edwards College Stats Fr.: 2.0ppg / 1.7rpg So.: 3.5ppg / 2.1rpg Jr.: 7.2ppg / 3.4rpg Sr. 13.2 ppg / 6.7rpg 7 games into Zeke's Sophomore season, I think he's doing fine. Statistically, he'll finish 2010-11 in the same neighborhood as Kaman's Sophomore season. And his development is way beyond Edwards'.

I think they should join the MAC for att sports. OK. you piqued my interest. What are att sports? If there was a God, I would have peeked your interest. No God.

I think they should join the MAC for all sports.

Thanks to everyone for keeping me up to date as I sat in the Newark airport. Great job Zips! Bring home a National Championship!

After the CSU loss, on Frenchy's post game show he made two comments that stuck in my memory -- "Well Zips Fans...you wanted to play a tougher schedule!" and "The Horizon League has clearly surpassed the MAC in basketball." Quote #1 irked me when I first heard it. CSU isn't Duke. And it is a local upper-midmajor that we should be playing annually. But after thinking about it, if you take it in the context that a tougher schedule means we'll going to have to accept a few defeats as trade-offs for what were formerly 40-point blow outs the likes of South Carolina Upstate...I can accept it. Regarding Quote #2 -- Since Butler made the NCAA Finals last season, I don't think there's any doubt the Horizon is a better hoops conference than the MAC. But overall, it isn't the MVC. The MAC's dregs hold the conference back, but the top teams of the MAC can easily run with any Horizon team but Butler. Three NCAA bids for the Horizon is laughable. Two is possible, if CSU upends Butler in the tourney. IMO - Butler and CSU would both represent the Horizon well against just about anyone...but after those two schools...puh-leeze. Three Horizon CBI bids...that could happen.

Great game by the Zips last night. After Abreu's down game, I'd have never thought he'd start against Detroit. Great move by Dambrot. If Roberts can embrace the 6th Man role, he'll fill the void left by McKnight. Until, of course, McKnight returns.

It’s a challenge, but I’ll give it a shot 1. How many downs will Ryan Bain play this year? 2. Will the next hoops arena be built downtown or on-campus? 3. When will the Zips finally win by 14 so that Zipmeister can start up his long-desired gambling web site? 4. What’s going to happen if the MAC only has 5 soccer playing members left???? 5. Can we fix the blasted audio on these ZTV reports already? 6. Will we begin the 2011 gridiron campaign in the infamous “Bottom 10”? 7. Hey, what’s with the band taking up all of the seats on the lower portion of the JAR? 8. Did you hear LeBron is refusing to urinate or defecate in the Q during his 1st game back, instead preferring to “hold it” until his armada makes its way to the Summit County line? 9. When will Zips and Buckeyes ever learn to “just get along”? 10. When is the NCAA going to enforce the attendance clause on us and send us back to 1-AA?? #2 is close...but it doesn't make me barf. The mere sight of any thread containing "Western Kentucky" or "Illinois State" send me sprinting to the john... Nice job, BTW!

If there is anything less interesting than speculation on MAC expansion, and possible realignment, I have yet to see it.

Actually NIU rejoined the MAC with Marshall (also rejoined) and Buffalo (new member) in 1997. Source CK modification -- Northern Illinois re-entered at roughly the same time Akron entered the MAC... now they are #1 in football. Note - I intended to reply to this segment of your original post. However, I was in "Edit Mode" and accidentally erased everything else. Sorry about that.

If UMass wants to join for football only, let them do it. Like Temple, have them give the MAC a few OOC hoops games and call it a done deal. What is anyone smoking to think that UMass would drop from the A-10 to the MAC in basketball? The MAC is basically stem cells to any incoming football program... with the exception of Akron. Northern Illinois re-entered at the same time Akron entered the MAC... now they are #1 in football. UCF used the MAC to springboard to Conference USA. Marshall slapped the MAC around for a while, then spring-boarded to Conference USA. Temple was a D1-A laughing stock for decades... then got a stem cell injection from Rick Christ and are now winning 8 to 9 games per year. They represent the MAC well. I would love love love to see NIU, UCF, Temple and Marshall play at InfoCision every year. They were great additions to the MAC. UMass is an upper-echelon 1-AA program. They would bring good, competitive football to the MAC, and to InfoCision. They would win 8-9 games per season in short order, and lift the MAC's image. There're no drawbacks to bringing UMass into the MAC. Ultimately, they would be a logical fit for the Big East. And the MAC stem cells will have worked their magic once more.

I love the idea but the new conference is unbalanced with 9 members. I would prefer 12 members that include Northern Illinois, Southern Illinois, and Dayton (moving to FBS). I am curious, where might this leave Can't? Dayton doesn't offer any football scholarships as it stands now...how would they jump from 0 to 85?
-
Do it. If UMass wants to join our leper colony, let 'em in! Added bonus - It would piss off YSU.

CSU smothered us on the perimeter, and out-quicked us across the board. Does this Zips team have the capability to counteract a squad with similar strengths like Detroit? Can Zeke toss down some dunks with authority from 3-feet, rather than use the glass...can he skooch-in a few more feet on his 13-foot hook shots? Can Nick finish strong around the hoop? Can he clean some glass? Or is his focus on the Euro pros, and making babies? Will Steve McNees erupt from his offensive slumber? Can Abreu compete defensively? Can he adjust to the speed of solid mid-major opposing guards? Will KD modify his inside-out approach at all? Can we keep an opposing "star" guard from going off and single-handedly controlling the game...or better yet...can a Zips player step up and be an offensive "stud?" McClanahan...you got it in you? Hopefully motivation from the CSU whuppin' + last few days of practice have the Zips loaded for bear tomorrow. We need a win over a solid Horizon opponent.

I have a set of families with parents still on this side of the grass, so Thanksgiving involves a lot of family time and travel. I was able to make it to the game yesterday. I'll post a season review soon enough. Thanks for thinking of me.

In 2013.

I predict 4,200 combined attendance.

Undefeated CSU rolls into the JAR tonight! First time Gary Waters has visited our hallowed confines since the immortal Dan Hipsher was raining f-bombs like Jose Davis rained 3's. Battle for NE Ohio supremacy... both coaches looking for career win #250. Packed house. This is really as big a game as you will see in the JAR, sans K.e.n.t., or the once every 8 years that Temple makes the trip to Akron. Hard to believe it has taken until 11 hours prior to tip-off to get a thread started? Dambrot won't admit it publicly... but this game is his definitive measuring stick. He's gotta want the "W" in the worst way...

The article assumes I'm supposed to know who the "Colonials" represent. James Madison? Devry A&M? You never know in the early OOC part of the schedule...

Zips. vs. YSU Post game
Captain Kangaroo replied to ZTVSportsProducer's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Funnily enough we do have a splitter and more mics that we can use, just with 4 other teams up here filming stuff, not everything is available every time we need it. Some days it's hard enough getting just 1 microphone because it seems like EVERYONE needs them for something or other! haha Like I said though in another post, I'll try to make it easier for you all to here everything better and make it a good quality video for you all to enjoy. It's a learning experience for all of us up at Z-TV, so once we find an easier way to get it to you, things will be much smoother Thanks for all your work. Zips fans have to be do-it-yourselfers. But if we don't do it, no one will. -
Rob Ianello, Vote for him for coach of the year!
Captain Kangaroo replied to RootforRoo44's topic in Akron Zips Football
No one here cares about Jim Tressel. And in a previous post someone stated that Tressel would donate an appreciable sum of money to UA Football if Fickel was hired. That's bribery. If true, Tressel is a weasel. -
1350AM says Ianello interview "a dead end"
Captain Kangaroo replied to ZipRoo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Years ago, someone said it would be worthless to start a site like ZipsNation. 120,000 posts (and millions of views) later... huh... who knew... I guess there are quite a few Akron fans out there who want to talk Zips sports? ZipsWin! is correct... no real Zips fan will participate in a show where the opinion or subject knowledge of the host is weak. Everyone has better things to do with their time. But if there were a decent show, with interesting perspectives and interviews, I'm sure it would be successful. Does a local show host want to do the heavy-lifting necessary to get a Zips-centric segment up and running? Or is it easier to just talk about the Buckeyes and Browns? To date, it isn't even close. In this instance, ZipWin!... ZipsLose!.
