"Official" 2010 Head Coach Prediction:
Captain Kangaroo replied to xu9697's topic in Akron Zips Football
We've had a D-1 football team for 23 years and we have a combined 1 bowl appearance. We aren't exactly fast-tracking ourselves out of the MAC.I think that we should invoke a law on ZN that no one is allowed to discuss moving to a bigger conference until the Zips both:1.) Win a D1 football bowl game2.) Win an NCAA basketball tournament game -
I just think we need to focus on winning the MAC, and going undefeated in the MAC. If we win a game in the NCAA tourney...great. If not, oh well... Nice to see a UA program "built," rather than "building."Nice to see a UA program that can legitimately say they can "think beyond the MAC," rather than saying it with their fingers crossed behind their backs.I heard Gonzaga soccer saying they wanted to be "The Akron of the West."All hail the mighty soccer Zips!

If you consistently shank 27yard rugby punts...I say go for it on 4th down.

I would avoid Glenville like the plague. Battling 25 other schools for player is insane. It is the most over-recruited school in the nation. The Zips can never win there.Furthermore - We had crap luck with the three Glenville kids we recruited back in JD's first year (0 - 3)...and it always seems I'm reading about some Glenville-schooled collegiate player in the local police blotter. -
You haven't been back for a game yet, have you? I of course use the term "game" loosely. Please tell me we didn't build a $65 million stadium without doors on the bathroom stalls....... I ripped them all off after the Temple game. Now it looks like

uconn vs Monmouth
Captain Kangaroo replied to bigzipguy's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Did you put uconn in lower case to piss off ZW? -
That's just crazy talk. Everyone knows a Amish man wouldn't own a computer..... He would use his next door neighbor's for free, but he would never own one. I thought more people might think playing a preseason game in Memorial might be interesting.I want to see a leather helmet "throw-back" game between UA and K.e.n.t. next year at The Rubber Bowl.

Three Positives Coming Out of Today
Captain Kangaroo replied to UAZip0510's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Ok, Dave .. I ask that you re-read the first post in that thread, and consider your sentence above. The Great GP1 was recommending that the Nation check out a band that he ran into at an event / venue. He added a comment to it about an opinion .. and the rest is history. But the sole purpose? Latitude exists here within reason .. and things like this are typically handled by the members, not the Moderators. Several people said their peace in that thread, and in our view it was handled. The probing in the thread illuminated the Great GP1's mindset on the Amish. Many times things are stricken by the Moderators .. we have a trash bin full to prove it.Go Zips!I re-read the first and subsequent posts several times before responding in that thread or here. The dislike of Amish was featured in the thread's first sentence before the band was mentioned, not the other way around. Within 2 hours, dislike of the Amish became "hate." And it went downhill from there, which was entirely predictable.I also read earlier posts by the same person trashing a different religious group. A pattern of posting gratuitous hate messages about different religions on a sports forum certainly fits the classic definition of trolling. Many of the best-run internet forums do not allow any religious discussion, let alone overt hate posts, because religious discussion has proven over time to be one of the most emotional and divisive issues that can absolutely rip a forum community apart. Initiating attacks on religious beliefs is a time-proven method of provoking other forum members.Intent is hard to prove, so no one will ever know for certain what thought processes led to that series of hateful posts on ZN about different religions. But it's well known that those types of posts are extremely offensive to the fundamental beliefs of many. A pattern of similar posts suggests deliberate, not inadvertent, provocation. And that leads back to the classic definition of trolling. It's all about manipulation.I appreciate the good work of the moderators in filling the ZN trashbin with the obvious trash. But ZN would be an even friendlier place for all if there was zero tolerance for expressions of hatred for such things as religions, ethnic groups, etc.Let it go, Dave. Let it go. -

You know how those Search firms get huge chunks of money for rustling up coaching candidates? I think UA needs to give ZipNation $50,000 for this thread. I'll donate it all to the new soccer stadium and basketball arena. -

I thought his name rang a bell? "A Youngstown, Ohio, native, Narduzzi earned all-state football honors at Ursuline High School. He played for his father Bill Narduzzi at Youngstown State as a freshman in 1985 and led the Ohio Valley Conference in tackles. Narduzzi then transferred to Rhode Island and became a three-year starter linebacker for the Rams from 1987-89." -

I don't know that a close loss to USC amounts to much in 2009. Sincerely, StanfordI don't know that beating Notre Dame is all that impressive in 2009.Sincerely, NavyGreetings to the left coast! -

this guy is a graduate assistant?...is that right!?He is a grad assistant because he is still getting a full salary from Syracuse. He didn't need the paycheck. He just wanted to stay active in D1 football.I wonder if Walt Harris is getting a salary from UA on top of the $800k he's getting from Stanford in 2009? -

Dambrot Post-Game Quotes
Captain Kangaroo replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Yes...he led everybody in Rebounds and Blocks (and while he didn't lead in points, he still had 10 of them). Not a small feat for someone playing in his first college game.Linhart might have helped, yes, but leadership doesn't win games...scoring more points than your opponent does. Linhart's defense would have helped, not his leadership.I agree. I saw plenty of "crapped down our legs, go-ice-cold-in-the-last-8-minutes" games with Linhart on the court last season (and season's prior). As Dambrot said: "We gave game after game after game away last year. I don't know why anyone would be surprised that we gave this one away." -
NCAA Tournament Seeding

ACC: Virginia 1, NC State 0Will Bates scored the winner and Diego Restrepo recorded the shutout in goal for the Cavaliers.Anybody remember Diego? Former USF netminder... double barreled bird flipping to the fans after they beat us at Lee Jackson field a few years ago. Would be very fun to meet him in the finals. Of course I'm getting a bit ahead of myself. -

Dambrot Post-Game Quotes
Captain Kangaroo replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I don't see any BS coach-speak anywhere in Dambrot's comments. Did you read them? He was frank, and brutally honest. He slathered almost NO lipstick on the pig. If GP1 had written half the things Dambrot said in the post game conference, many basket-o-centric ZN members would have freaked out. -
Dambrot Post-Game Quotes

Nate's replacement gave us a double-double.I miss Brett McKnight. The one that played against Pitt last year. -
By the case? I guess we all have our secrets......If you are a fan of Zips athletics and you don't own a case of lube, then then the Lord blessed you with either a very loose, or very wide orifice.I must assume that when a strong wind blows past the Great GP1's posterior, a sound similar to that found in a jug band is produced.

These were copied from The Rasor's Edge Blog since GoZips.com severely edited them:"When you're up 15 points with 7:36 to play, you should win the game. We can blame me, blame them. I thought today we did a very poor job of handling prosperity first and adversity second. We gave game after game after game away last year. I don't know why anyone would be surprised that we gave this one away.""With 1:22 left, we shoot a reverse layup. We miss four free throws. We start the second half and show no toughness and let them back in the game.""The big boy wasn't perfect but he was better than the older guys. He just needs to learn.""We've had trouble all fall finding out who to play.""If we give up 80, we're going to lose. We didn't have one guy who could guard anybody, except Zeke under the basket."That's probably one of the most disappointing games that I've had here. That is just absolutely ridiculous. You almost don't have to shoot a shot and you can win the game. You can hold it for 35 and take six 35-second violations. That's how pitiful it was.""You try to build fanbase and you try to build excitement, and then you do that. We're not getting an at-large bid anyway. You have to win in March.""This group is not tough. Until they get tough, they won't win. It's frightening. We didn't lose turning it over a lot. We gave up 40 percent from the field last year. We gave up 80 and I don't think they're great on offense. He's a good coach, but you can't lose that game.""If you lose one like that, what do you do in the nip and tuck games? When the game's on the line, do you have enough toughness to win? Do you think Dru Joyce would let us lose that game? Or Cedrick Middleton?""We went through the same thing last year. When we give up 80, we'll lose. This group has to get with it. Part of it is figuring out who to play. You can't play as many as we did. I know the big boy has to play, even if he's not good. He doesn't know what he's doing yet, but he's going to do some good things.""I didn't yell at them. I just said you have to play better. You can't go 0-4 at the line. You can't give up 3s late in the clock. You can't give up layups late in the clock. We didn't make one play when it mattered. We got the ball right in front of the rim.""I didn't think we played great at the point. I didn't think we guarded. I think Humpty played hard. He was the best of the three."On why Carroll started and played three minutes: "I didn't like the way we started so I didn't get back to him.""I'm not scared of North Carolina State. We can play with anybody and we can lose to anybody.""It's how they feel about themselves. We have to become more consistent than that. You saw very little enthusiasm.""I think leadership is a lost art. It's time somebody steps up. It's hard to step up without knowing how much you'll play."On Marshall: "By March, we'll be good because he'll know stuff. He'll be better than he is now. He's just playing on instincts now. Building for March, we might as well play him when it matters."On the lack of post offense: "We just refused to throw it in. When we did, we didn't make the cuts we were supposed to.""We're doing something wrong at the beginning of the year. We don't guard. For some reason, their mindset is offense early."On Cvetinovic: "He has to play because he has good fire in his gut.""We haven't practiced with the McKnights at the three spot. Brett McKnight has to play better. He's had a rough fall."

A Zips fan that doesn't already have a medicine cabinet full of lube? I don't believe it. I buy the stuff by the case at Sam's Club.Wait...I went through a ton of it yesterday afternoon as I watched Austin Peay bury us with a 17-0 run at game's end. Couple that with the Temple footballer's 49-0 run against our gridiron guys....I just might need to re-stock myself. H1N1 vaccine and lube are the two hottest items in Summit County right now. Thanks to Caleb and the guys for salvaging many Zips Fan's weekend!
