  1. Explains why his heart wasn't in the NIT game. Didn't want to injure himself. He was already on to bigger and better things. #foreverarocket
  2. If you wanted to better understand the overall effects of basketball players getting an extra year of eligibility, Steve Czaban recently conducted a nice interview with DeMatha HS HC Mike Jones. You can listen to it here. It is lengthy (over 1 hour total), but for the most part is all interesting stuff.
  3. Hope Boykins gets it. Heath is a retread. Rode the wave of Gary Waters efforts to nab a big payday, but mediocre wherever he landed afterwards.
  4. Well...as long as we're laying out the mea culpas...I wrote: Houston 87 CSU 56 Houston could have had 40, but called off the dogs when it got to 35 points late. You can see why Kelvin Sampson didn't get any looks from Marquette.
  5. Remember This Guy? “I thought I had the world in my hands ... I didn’t have to listen to anyone because I already knew it all,” Howard continued. “No matter how good you are in sports and no matter how good you are in school, if you let negative people into your life, and if you let things in that aren’t going to push you closer to your goals — despite what you know is right — you’re never going to succeed.”
  6. Whatever makes you feel better about pretending AAU/G5 Cincinnati has the same budget as MAC/G5 Bowling Green. Each is "...just another G5 program," right?
  7. Tulsa is from a better conference than the MAC. They've played in 10 bowl games over the past 15 years, winning 6. The Zips have played in 3, winning 1. In their three bowl wins against MAC opponents, they've won by a combined 163-30.
  8. Karma. Couldn’t happen to a better fraud.
  9. If we’re going to be any good next year, and he’s a starting guard, he’s gotta be above 30% from 3. Preferably at least 35%. The days of having guards shoot 25% from behind the arc are over unless you can dish it like Rondo or Kidd.
  10. 1.) Put some arc on your shot 2.) Shoot 500 3's a day between now and October. 3.) Practice finishing the shot when you drive to the hole 4.) Make at least 70% of your free throws That's my Tribble offseason workout program.
  11. So what is the right move for 2021-22? Do we bring in a P5 grad transfer or two, or do we develop what we have? With only 5 players on the floor at once, you can't do both. My ultra-concise overview of the recent transfers is - Wynn (late arrival) showed some promise, but didn't conjure up anything reminiscent of X's impact. We'll see what happens with a summer of team workouts. Trimble disappeared when opposing teams found he was no threat to do much offensively but drain straightaway 3's. Daily rarely impacted a game outside of Toledo #1. Will the tide ever turn back to developing Freshman? Coaches want to win immediately, and get fired quicker than ever if they don't. Fans want to win immediately. Players want to play immediately. It can't all happen simultaneously, but we're all in the instant gratification era. Not a big fan of the Transfer Portal era.
  12. I will speculate that the minutes provided to Dailey were probably frustrating to him. Maishe never got it going despite a very long leash, and some guys probably sat on the bench none-to-happy about it. That also delayed the development of some of the young guys like Dawson and Tribble...both of whom made some nice progress when given extended minutes towards the end of the season. I can't blame the staff...Maishe certainly passed the eyeball test. But it didn't work out. Just my speculation, having not attended a game or practice in-person.
  13. An athletic scholarship means Groce would have on less scholarship to offer. I’ll take an extra basketball scholarship any day of the week.
  14. Houston will kill CSU. I'll predict a 40-point beat down. You'll swear Shaka Smart was coaching the Cougars. 👳‍♀️
  15. Trimble is too easily shut down.
  16. Ali will be a monster next season
  17. Soooo nice not having Reghi blathering the height and home town of every player when they touch the ball.
  18. We should be loaded for bear in this MAC tournament then, because this season rated several notches above mediocre.
  19. I agree on this one. It seems like a chess match with Trimble. He started out slow, so opponents didn't pay much attention to him. Then he caught on, and opponents adjusted per the game tape. Now he's less effective. What will he, or the Zips staff now do to counteract the adjustments and get him space to shoot? Will he need to start attacking the rim? Can he attack the rim? Has waiting for Dailey to "click" hurt the development of Dawson and Tribble? We're 85% of the way through the season, and Dailey is-who-he-is. A reliable 8th man. I'm bullish on Dawson. In hindsight (always 20/20) I wish he'd have gotten Dailey's minutes earlier this year. I think we'd be a better team right now. As Coach Gump ones said though - "Transfers are like a box of chocolates...you never know what your gonna get." I think Ali just needs to see a couple shots go through the hoop and he'll be back. His 20 point game was a first, and I think he's been pressing since. His next step is becoming consistent.
  20. There was an article over the weekend in the PD where it said Patton was a Dambrot recruit? I didn't know that.
  21. Are there enough donors? Is our fan base large? If he knows the changes that need to be made, why haven't they been implemented? I like George. He's always been very good to me, and is definitely a "UA Guy." But does 2021 UA Athletics need a "solid" choice, or a "great" choice? We have botched pretty much every AD hire since Mike Bobinski. You could make a case for Mike Thomas, but the JD Brookhart hire wasn't a home run to say the least. We need an up-and-comer from a successful upper-G5 or scrappy P5 school. Someone that won't screw up basketball and soccer, and will elevate football. Someone with fresh ideas and a plan to get football on track that can be directly attributable to his/her work in a similar previous situation. I can't blame Williams for bowing out. 2021 is a lousy time to become a G5 AD. But we are an FBS football school with a great stadium and practice facilities. A winning basketball program and a top 10 soccer program. That has to be very appealing to someone talented. But I have faith that we will hire the wrong person. We always do.
  22. Says the guy using two exclamation points?
  23. I don't think the baby has to be the primary reason LCJ would leave. My mom had me at 18 years old, at the end of her freshman year at YSU. She ended up with a Masters degree. He can stick around if that's what he wanted. I'm sure he has a good network of people to help out. That said, doesn't he already have 2 Masters degrees? At some point you gotta move on. I'd love to see him return for another final season just because he got jobbed out of an NCAA tourney appearance in 2020, and then endured a full pandemic season of empty arenas and on-line classes. Crappy way to go out for a "rafterable" player.
