New Head Coach Search - 2021 Edition
Captain Kangaroo replied to GoZips86's topic in Akron Zips Football
Brookhart had to sell Frye on staying after Owens' firing, although transferring back then was a lot more daunting than it is today. I'll hold out hope that Gibson is open to at least listening to the new coach's sales pitch. If it is Moorhead, and he promises to bring in some Jr and Sr P5 OL transfers, ZG5 should strongly consider staying. -

Too bad. If Moorhead is hired, Zach would have had a lot of fun running that offense. If Irons chooses to bail too, I'm confident Joe would pluck a solid transfer to QB the Zips in 2022. -

Joe took over a Fordham program that was 1-10 in 2011. He wanted the Zips job in 2012, but UA chose Bowden. A home run hire on every level. Get it done, Guthrie. 🙏 -

Bleach. My palate tastes like liver and lima beans with sour milk.

In front of Infocision fans, the home Zips have won one Division 1-A game in the past 4+ years (beginning November 22nd, 2017). By comparison - The Cincinnati Bearcats just stretched their home field winning streak to 23 games. They've won 23 in a row...I can't imagine the Zips winning 23 home games combined during the balance of my lifetime. Next season the Zips don't play a home game against a D-1A opponent until at least October 1st. If they win on October 1st, it will break a streak where Zips fans have walked out of Infocision a loser all-but-once over 1774 days. If they lose, the count keeps climbing.

I appreciate everyone’s support. If there comes a time when we need to pass a hat I will let people know.

Yes. But we have a life, and sometimes we misplace trust that our members will act like adults. Jut so everyone knows - when I cut the check to Invision every 6 months to keep this site going it comes out of my pocket. I do it because I feel Zips fans need a nice place to discuss their teams comings and goings. 97% of you "get it," and I appreciate your contributions. If you are a cyberbully looking to inflate your ego, you're in the wrong board. Start your own Zips site and run it as you please. But here, you play by the house rules. It's as simple as that.

Guthrie may get the Interim Hire of the Year Award?

Did look like an 8 year old trying to tackle their dad when #31 carries the ball.

You knew if we didn’t match their scoring it would get ugly.

During the WMU game broadcast the announcers said none of the existing staff would be retained, including Oscar. Oscar said he wanted to win the Wagon Wheel “as a gift to the next staff.” That tells me Oscar isn’t the future.

My opinion- Kent’s defense sucks, and Gibson is rolling. Look for a high scoring game … like 48-34 Kent. But the Zips have a puncher’s chance. Kent is NOT rolling right now. If the Zips can jump out to an early lead, the Flashes could panic. Question of the day- is Guthrie hoping the Zips win, or get blown out?

Great football acumen. Would be a great recruiter in Western Pa. Might stay a while, with his family being so close. Great leadership skills. Would pique the interest of a lot of scorned football alumni. MACC QB. He's a home run if we could get him. -

How many of the Arth 2021/2022 class will stick with Akron? I’ll guess - zero. -

On the topic of beer - They did have a few other non-advertised offerings. Yuengling and Heineken. There were probably another couple I missed. They don't seem to want to sell the beer. The bar behind the south hoop looked nice, but was empty for the bulk of the game. You'd figure there'd be a PA announcement promoting it, inviting people to stop down? Call it "Porky's Taphouse"...market it somehow? Word in section 2B was - there was a $20 cover charge to enter the area? Maybe true, maybe an urban legend. But I didn't feel like walking down to find out.

IMHO - I think our problem is less coaching, and more talent. Feeney isn't misusing Mean Joe Green, Lawrence Taylor, Jason Taylor and Michael Strahan. Or even Coe, Marcus, Davis II and Gilbert III. We're just smaller, slower and younger than every OL we face. A single instance of stopping the run, or getting any sort of pressure on the QB has been cause for a ticker tape parade for any of the Arth-Feeney's defenses.
