According to Bruce Feldman, Arth is done

Kornheiser's response - "What was he...3-24? That's a pretty easy one to defend." -
I'm sure Kent will bring a lot of fans on the 20th.

Zips fans have walked out of InfoCision stadium a loser against every D1-A (FBS) opponent we've played for the past 4 calendar years (sadly, no fans attended the epic 2020 BG win). And, we've played some lousy opponents. If Ohio State lost every single game they played at the Horseshoe, how many fans would be lining up for year #5 season tickets? We've been outscored 1,351-640 the past 4 seasons. Our fans get giddy if we play a competitive half of football against bottom-dweller opponents. The Zips aren't just losing...they have been an embarrassment for several years. Until they sustain some level of football respectability, who in their right mind would forfeit a beautiful Saturday afternoon and pay $100 (family of four) to watch them?

New Head Coach Search - 2021 Edition
Captain Kangaroo replied to GoZips86's topic in Akron Zips Football
Every MAC champion football team in memory has been a clean, respectable group. No Barry Sweitzers or Jimmy Johnson’s. It shouldn’t be too outlandish to expect it could happen in Akron too. -

Mike Johnson still interested in coaching? -
Coach O Rod doing things #hisway If anything it will be interesting to see the changes O Rod implements. Obviously he can’t make any major scheme changes in 7 days. But there might be some “Arth favorites” being replaced by guys that he likes better. Could Zips Grandma get her wish next Tuesday?

What are you looking for in a Head coach?

When Arth decided to build his program predominately with Freshmen, he had to know the beatings would come early and often. He also had to know in today's FBS world that AD's and fans don't wait 5-6 years for a winning record. I think he grossly underestimated either the talent required to win in the MAC, or his ability to recruit enough impactful Freshman. His outdated Freshman-first recruiting approach cost him. The chips were stacked against him from the start, with a late hire. But he could have overcome that with some aggressive recruiting of JUCO and P5 Transfer talent on the OL and DL. I disagree that the Zips are now going to turn around and go backwards. We are 3-24 during Arth's tenure. That's already rock bottom. By comparison, Terry Bowden took over a winless L-M football program and has won 4 games this year. Arth is a good person, and he'll land on his feet. But he proved he didn't know how to win at Akron. His approach netted 3 wins in 27 games. We need a coach that knows how to win at Akron. And for those who think it isn't possible, look at Kent. They have been worse than the Zips most of the past 20+ years. Until they somehow found a coach that could win at Kent. I'm sure the kids presently in the Zips program are hungry to win. Hopefully the good ones stick around and see some quick success with the new coach. -
Where else can Zip grads from 1971 meet with fellow alumni from 2021? 🦘👨🦳👨🎓 🦘🧒👨🎓

10:12 pm and I’m still at the game. Victory beer is waiting for me in lot 9! C’mon Gibson!

To …4th and 24!

Zips deserve better than a 21-10 halftime deficit.

We just put in our passing QB to run the ball up the middle on 3rd and 8.

Let’s try 51-17 Ball State tonight. I like my chances to win the 50/50 tonight! That $18 is as good as mine!
-
I was hoping for Bryant and Morgan State.😡

When do you predict he’ll get knocked out of the game and replaced by Irons?

Sounds like the extent of the vetting we do when we hire a football coach.

Regarding local interest - Assuming the season plays on as expected, in the 4 year stretch of November 15th 2017 through November 15th 2021, the Zips will have won exactly 1 home game against a non-FCS team in front of paying InfoCision fans (CMU 17-10 in 2018). Tough to draw a local crowd when you lose to your peer-programs, at home, 90+% of the time. We used to have tailgate parties of 10-16 people with regularity. It's typically me and my wife now-a-days...until about the 3rd quarter...then it's back up Route 8. Every...single...week...the Zips are Marvis Frazier, and the opponent is Larry Holmes.

Our OL play almost makes the QB question irrelevant. Charlie Frye, Butchie Washington or Luke Getsy would have been in the transfer portal by week two if they were playing behind this crew. But if I were to play along... Irons had two fumbles that were recovered by Buffalo inside the Zips 10 yard line, and fumbled another out of the endzone. That's terrible. Kato's ball security is equally as suspect when he's deep in his own territory. Gibson beat BG, and moved the ball well against Miami. At Miami, the bungling and penalties that constantly killed Zips drives weren't his fault. No one can debate that Irons is a better, more elusive runner than Gibson. But you can debate that Irons' "lows" are much deeper that Gibson's. And their "highs" aren't all that different. Give me a QB that knows the importance of ball security. I don't think that Irons did anything to put a lock on the QB position. Personally, I'd start Gibson. He's proven to be solid, and he only got pulled last week because of Arth's feeling that Irons was the better option. Not because he did anything wrong. I'd take Norrils at RB. He has some speed, and he's strong enough to break some tackles.

You must have missed the first half of the OU game. I think that bought him another season or two.

Moeller is playing a team that is 0-10 in round 1. In the 70’s and early 80’s my HS had multiple teams go 10-0 or 9-1 and not make the playoffs. It’s a 180 degree turnaround. And, stupid.
