None. ? Wouldn't it be funny if we left the MAC for the cost savings nirvana of the MVC, and YSU immediately made the 1-A jump and took our MAC spot? -

If I attended Mount union or Wittenberg, I'd be with you. But if I attended a University which formerly played Louisville's, and then switched me to Concord's, I'm walking away. You can have it. It would physically sicken me to see the Zips play basketball in the Horizon League, or worse (remember, if football's present division status is changed, we're booted out of the MAC). -

You can't be in the MAC without D1A football. Would the President be dumb enough to move Akron out of the MAC, and into a lower division? Although I'm sure they'd find a way to let our soccer team stick around.? -

If we drop to FCS, we're out of the MAC. There goes the automatic Tourney bids for basketball and soccer. And the manageable bus rides to/from games. Maybe the Kent rivalry changes to YSU? Yippee. GP1 is correct. We need to have partners in this deal. Most of the MAC, and other G5 programs, are in the same boat. If UA walks away from FBS football alone (i.e. no like-minded partners), and drops to a lower division, I'm done with Zips football. Unless, maybe, if there was a new G5 division. And, I wouldn't care to watch the basketball program compete in a lesser conference either (like we tried with the Northeast Conference after we left the OVC). There's a big domino effect if UA does something really stupid this football decision. Thanks to the Prez for his premature, negative, vague announcement that lets us twist in the wind for weeks... -

Not paying Bowden not to coach the Zips in 2020 takes $500k off the 2019 numbers. -

We had it 1/3rd the way paid off with the Summa and Infocision donations alone, correct? -

We'd have a better win percentage because we'd stop playing the Ohio State's and Auburn's of the world. But do you think we'd be competing with North Dakota State, Georgia Southern, etc if we dropped a division? At best, with identical vision and leadership, we'd hover around .500. To me, "football" is the easy scapegoat, but it isn't why we haven't been a successful football program. -

The "Face" of UA seems to be ex Zip QB Matt Kaulig. Wonder how he'd feel about dropping a division or two in football, or eliminating it? I'm guessing he wouldn't like it. UA has too much already invested in The Stile Center and InfoCision to just walk away from football. Infocision has to be over 50% paid off by now anyhow? I wish the President wouldn't have left everyone hanging. That's all Arth needs is some open-ended comment from the guy regarding de-emphasizing athletics...as if recruiting for the Zips isn't tough enough right now. And a final note -- I get that football is an easy target given our lack of any sustained success for 35 years. But why has no one ever been held accountable for it? There's no reason, in NE Ohio, with a beautiful new football stadium, and top notch training facilities, that we should be racking up 1-11 and 0-12 seasons. We should be The Toledo of the East of Ohio. I wish we had any semblance of leadership that knew how to run a D1 football program. We just lather, rinse and repeat the same malaise with every administration. -
I was cleaning out my closet the other day and came across some old Zips stuff that I had stored away. It made me wonder what memorabilia other people have kept over the years? Old ticket stubs, give-aways, etc? Here is my first installment. Two away game programs. My memory of the Pitt game was - it was 32.1 degrees...freezing rain the entire game. The Zips cheerleaders left during the 3rd quarter. It was miserable. Nebraska was a blast. Notice Scott Frost on the cover.

I think we’d recruit well against San Francisco and Indiana State. Probably not LSU or WVA. We did nab Pat Forsythe though, so who knows? -

Artis went to Jacksonville. I think we could have had a shot at him. ? -
On his Twitter account he hinted he was looking for the school with a grad program that gave him the best shot at becoming a certified Dental Floss Tycoon. Dead giveaway.

MAC Men’s Basketball - Catch-all Thread

BG could have said "No give-backs" when Turner announced he was leaving, and moved on. While it is certainly within the rules...and almost expected now-a-days...I personally don't like the concept of feeling out your options, and then going back to your wife if they don't work out. But that's the way is seems to go in the Grad Transfer era. -
No such luck for high school kids. Then, if they were planning on playing college ball, they get the double whammy of potentially losing their scholarship, or aid (if going D-3).

Just ran into E-man at the Cleveland airport. Guess he’s back in town to visit. He said his heart is doing great. He’s disappointed basketball season ended so early. Still a great young man. Small world! -

Let them play X-Box against each other in a 68 team bracketed tourney and televise it nationally. I'll be Jonesing so hard for hoops next week I'd probably watch it.

Game 1 of the MAC Tournament- Ohio U

1.) I hate Rudy Gobert. If he hadn't become "Hoops Patient Zero," we'd at least have some college and pro basketball on TV for the next month. 2.) Since they're already at the arena, do Groce and Co. run out to the court and cut down the nets? -

The 6th seed in the A-10 tourney, Duquesne takes on the winner of the 11/14 seed GW/Fordham game on Thursday. Interesting A-10 fact: 8 different schools, none being Dayton?, have won the past 10 championships (Temple, Richmond, St. Bonaventure, Saint Louis, Saint Joseph’s, VCU, Rhode Island and Davidson Dukes-centric A-10 Tourney Info Question of the day - Is Dayton "The Gonzaga of the East"?

Buffalo’s exit costs the tournament a few thousand tickets sold. Miami and NIU might bring 300 combined to their Thursday game.
