2002 Zips Game the Defined College Football
Captain Kangaroo replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Disappointed that Sergeant Zip dug up this old post. Now I’ll never be a Supreme Court Judge. -

Damn. There goes my kid's college fund. -
Three For Thursday [Zips @ Golden Flashes]

I see this as a typical 45-42 Akron-Kent barn burner. I think the Zips pull it out because Kent always finds a way to lose. -
If it looks like Nebraska has a chance to screw us out of our appearance fee, I'd guess that the income from a game in Chapel Hill would offset it?
-
Keep in mind it would have taken I-an-II-o 7 years to win what Jinks won in 2.5 seasons.
-
Saving Gassers leg with the INT. Crafty. no offensive TDS in the last six quarters for the Zips? I don’t think we’ve even been in the red zone?
-
Too many designed QB runs. Kato isn’t that effective.
-
Good things happen when Wolfley is in the game. Give him more snaps!
-
Our offense is soooo bad. So tough to watch. Hopefully the D can score a couple TDS.
-
D is going to start tiring soon. Starting to see flashbacks to the Miami game.

Looks like Zaire Jacobs is getting a chance to show what he’s got with Alvin Davis on the sideline.

Watching the two scrimmages this summer it was clear why Kato was the QB of choice for the starter spot. In scrimmage #1 Kato was out of control, got briefly demoted, and Ramart came in and stole the show. In in the second scrimmage Kato was in control and his elite athleticism was evident. I thought “If this guy can show up every week, and continue to get better, look out MAC.” Kato still hasn’t proven he can show up every week, and we can’t beat a decent team when he doesn’t. We held on to Tre Chapman at QB too long. He was a great athlete but not a D1 QB. If Kato can’t figure it out this week, we need to move on to plan B. Ramart isn’t the elite athlete that Kato is, but neither was Frye. We need someone with pocket poise, and who can hit open receivers. We beat Northwestern a couple weeks ago, so Buffalo doesn’t scare me. We need to play with poise and purpose and we’re fine. That starts at the QB position.

He was our leading rusher against the Bulls last year. 7 carries for 70 yards.

Thanks for the nice comments. It's great that many of you liked it. I got the call that Jabari would be available to interview at 4 pm on Thursday. So I had about an hour after work to brush up on his career and generate some questions before I drove down to Akron. I almost didn't do it. It would have been a huge mistake not to go. I was able to get 6 minutes of his time prior to his radio interview. When he was done with the segment, he spoke to me for another 25 minutes. I offered a couple times for him to go eat his dinner, but he declined. He seemed genuinely excited to tell his story. When we were done we went back to the dinner table near the bar and someone had covered his meal with a plate to try and keep it warm. He's a super person. It was really uplifting to speak to him and I'm glad I could convey his enthusiasm for UA in the story.

Will Bowden get a contract extension?
Captain Kangaroo replied to Hilltopper's topic in Akron Zips Football
Did anyone see Miami's board before last week? Martin was O-U-T. I'm guessing there were similar rumblings in Buffalo after Army outscored them 41-6 after Buffalo's opening TD a couple weeks ago. We'll likely go as Kato goes this year. Is the the next Butchie, or Carlton Jackson? -
I had the opportunity to interview Jabari Arthur last week prior to his UA Hall of Fame induction. Here's how it went: Jabari Arthur Interview Thanks as always to Dr. Z for the layout.

Since when does beating Buffalo qualify as a "miracle?" Especially for a team that beat Northwestern a couple weeks ago. -
Our running game would need to improve to become non-existent.
-
How long do the Zips wait for Kato to become a consistent, effective QB?
-
Defense is gassed. Offense is giving them zero help. If we don’t get a td on this drive it’s over.
-
Kato can’t hit an open receiver.
-
I got the chance to speak with Jabari Arthur last night at the coach's show. What a super guy. I don't think I'll get the chance to post the interview until after tomorrow's game, but please be sure give him the best ovation humanly possible. He flew in from Calgary for the event, and you'll never meet a guy more positive about his time with the Zips.

How disappointed will George be when he finds out we’re not playing the 4-1 Miami Hurricanes?

THE Krystin Wilson Ross?

1.) Zips win in convincing fashion 2.) Kato lights up the Miami secondary for 300+ yards 3.) Defense surrenders one early TD, and one in garbage time 4.) Dre Williams and Jonah Morris both go for 80+ receiving yards I think this is a game where the 2018 Zips find their stride and make a strong championship run. The Zips D will shut down Miami, and the Zips offense will find the sledding much easier than it was at Northwestern and Iowa State. Zips 38-Miami 16
