The delay of game penalty looked to me like it was the coaches fault. They seemed to be arguing whether or not to kick the FG or punt, and the FG team was delayed getting on the field.

Are you satisfied with these results? I'm not! I look at those close games as ones we should have won. And until we do start winning them, people will continue to look at us as losers, and we will never gain any national respect until we start winning them!

Couldn't agree more. I think this program has come a long way. The next step that this program needs to take is to actually WIN those big games. That's when we know that Akron Football has come full circle.I could see that happening as soon as next season. It actually should happen next year. The INFO will help contribute to this future success.I have never seen a stadium win a game. Look at the Bengals in Cincy!

I couldn't agree more! There will be some extra sprints for that personal foul. Just before the D went out for that series, the coaches brought them together and politely told them, "No personal fouls or stupid penalties. Anyone does that, they'll run extra!" Some other points....Bronko all of a sudden has some extra pop in his kickoffs....great awareness by Lemon on that blocked extra point; two games in a row a special teams player makes an outstanding play....Stec reverted to his past form on hios lone punt of the night. If he just hit his average, it would have been fair caught on about the 10, but his only went 32 yards....Jacq is growing up quite nicely...

Looks like he was filming a Buffalo Wild Wings commercial!

I believe the coaching staf does hold grudges against certain players, and JD's press conference confirms it. I wanted to hear what JD, and possibly Andy Hildreth, had to say about the blocked FG, but not one word was mentioned about it. Hildreth has never been given an opportunity to punt in a game, even though we have had to put up with Stec's inconsistency for over 2 years before he finally seems to have gotten it together the last 4 games. And now he is being dissed by JD even though his heads up play may go a long way to saving JD's job. I'm sorry, this is no way to treat a senior.

If you are talking about DK, I couldn't disagree more. The kid does nothing but run east and west for most of his career and JD keeps putting him out there. I would have benched him long ago. A couple of games do not make up for his very average career. No, not DK. I'm talking about Hildreth. His scholarship has been threatened every year, and I don't think he's ever had a chance to play before. Only by default he became the holder.

Can you say IRONY? The one kid who has been treated like sh-t by Brookhart could be the one who saves his job!

GP1, I think this is about the most sensible posting I have ever read on this board! What I am saying is not to be undefeated every year, but shoot for the 7-8 wins a year. I don't think that is unrealistic, and I feel we should have hit that mark this year. But I feel there are too many on this board who are willing and happy to win a few games because "we weren't expected to win that many by the experts." GP1 has expressed realistic figures, and I feel this is what should be expected. With these numbers, we would become the class of the MAC and be bowl bound almost every year. We would draw the better recruits and not have to take as many chances, and we would draw bigger audiences. And maybe even convince other schools to play us at home, giving us more then 4 home games each year

I think we need to start over with a new staff and head coach. JD has had 5 years, but I don't see where he is learning. We still make stupid mistakes, like the 3-3-5 defense, trick plays at the goal line, stupid penalties...

We're winless at home for a couple of reasons. Yes we have squandered our own opportunities and that should be put on JD and staff above all. But to dismiss the fact that the home schedule has been difficult to date is being ignorant to the facts. In fact, I DEMAND that YOU perform a more EXCELLENT review of the teams that have defeated us at the rubber bowl this year (insert Bill and Ted guitar riff here). I expect a full report on my desk in the morning. You answered your own question. It needs to be laid on JD and the coaching staff. But there are those on this board who are satisfied with that. And that is what I'm talking about. We are so used to losing, that excuses are ingrained in us. (Hey, we're doing better than people thought we would, so we are OK.) Bullsh-t! We should have won our home games. We had those teams on the ropes, but let them come back to beat us. But I guess I should be happy with that, right? No, I'm not! Yes, they are both good teams, but if we want to get noticed, we need to beat those teams. Until we do, we will never gain any respect.Sorted, collated and placed on your desk.

[quote that being said akron should be 4-4 by saturday with a real chance to win the east. akron will have 4 road wins with a chance at 5-6 road wins. for those looking for progress under j.d. there it is. Akron should be 6-2 by next weekend. But, so many people on this board are happy with mediocrity. And that is what you will always get. I've said it before, we should demand excellence! Just because we are in a lousy conference is no reason to say that we are OK being right there with everyone else. We should be in first place right now! And we have a good road record. We are winless at home! And you are OK with that? We need to demand excellence!

All of what you are saying goes back to coaching. Who is the head coach? He works with the OC on the game plan every week and has to approve what will be called. He is the head man, so ultimately the blame (and credit) go to him.

As a fan:1)JD has been in a steady downward spiral since winning the MAC in 052)We are only doing better than predicted because everyone thinks of us as a joke and have no reason to take us seriously. We should be 5-2 right now, not 3-4. I can and I will complain!3) There are several available lower division coaches that would love to move up. I don't know who they are; that is why we have search committees.4) F--- the previous coaching staff! I'm concerned with this one!5) Yes, give JD credit, with LO, for our championship season. Yes, he beat a down N.C. State. Syracuse is a BCS team, but so bad, they would finish last in the MAC!As a reralist:1) I say it's time for someone in our conference to grow a pair, eat the contract, and move on.2) Again, grow a pair, hold the coach accountable, and demand results! Maybe if this happened, coaches wouldn't feel so smug.3) JD's results the last three seasons demand he be fired!

IMO, there is no doubt we need a new coach next year. Those who read this board know why I feel that way. With Info, we have a new start, so we need a coach with tons of enthusiasm to start us off. We can't afford to start in a new stadium with the same, old "close, but no cigar" team.I say we look down a division or two. There are some great coaches out there. I think of Mike Kelly, who recently retired at Dayton, as the type of coach we need to look for. I'm sure there are plenty of hungry young coaches who would love the chance to move up.

This is part of the problem! This team, with its losing record, is performing "substantially above" your expectations?! What were your expectations? Don't you people think it's time to raise your expectations? Why don't we demand a winner? Why should we keep a sub .500% coach? Expect crap, get crap!

I voted for more than one. Our offense was clicking early, but BG made the adjustments and slowed us down the second half. (Coaches bad!)During a critical drive towards the end of the game, our receivers dropped 3 passes. (Receivers bad!)Kickoff coverage didn't have a chance. The kicks were line drives that got to the return man very quickly. He ran almost 20 yards before our players got close, and he had plenty of time to see how the blocking set up. (Kicker's bad!)These are in addition to what has already been said. There were some plusses. Our O-line had one of their better games. Igor is back. Anthony Turner is a senior! And speaking of Turner, how did he ever lose a game in high school? He was the quarterback, and his tailback was Javon Ringer!

I think that if this university is to grow, we need to go in another direction. This season has been a microcosm of the past 5. We have lost three games we could have won; 2 we should have won. By now, JD's karma, or whatever you want to call it, pervades the team. And right now, instead of the team thinking, "How are we going to win this game?'", the pervailing attitude is, "How are we going to lose?" It's time for that mindset to change.

How in the H did we win that game?

Bowser Superman? He must have been trying to catch Kryptonite the rest of the game! He couldn't hold on to a ball until the end of the game. I'm sorry, but he has to show a lot more consistency before I'll like him! Saying that, it was a great catch! Does anyone know why it took so long to get the refs to review it? -
Bowser should get the game ball. That dude almost single-handedly kept us alive, with the TD and with a huge catch to set up Igor's winning kick.Other than Bowser and Igor, it was an ugly-ass game.Dennis Kennedy averaged something like 1.5ypc and we kept doing boneheaded plays like reverses and plays that only go sideways.2 of Jacq's INTs were the fault of clumsy receivers, but one was all on the QB and there were several more that we're lucky didn't happen.I disagree about Bowser. Yes, he made a couple of catches at the end, but I am still pissed about the 5 or 6 he dropped! Did you miss those, Mr. Bowser?

I have to disagree with you about halftime adjustments, GP1.....when I played in college, my coach my freshman year was very active at halftime. His biggest changes were on D, changing to what the other team was doing. On offense, he only tried to set up a first drive. You can't change a whole offensive scheme at half, but you can change a lot on D. He also changed a thing or two on special teams, if needed. Of course, he would rely on his coordinators and listen to them. He went on to be the heade coach for two pro teams. His successor was not nearly as active, not nearly as good of a coach, and is now out of football.
-
You hit the nail on the head! JD and his staff have not shown the ability to adjust at halftime. I have been saying this for a couple of years, along with a few other posters.

There are some excellent points made on this subject. But OMG, someone else finally sees what I have been saying about Stec from day one! Thank you, Captain! If you think back to just about any game he's played, he starts well, but goes downhill by the second half. Army was a good example. You can look it up.I agree that with a limited travel group, 2 PK's and 2 punters are a bit much. Igor did alright kicking off, why did he lose that job? The new kicker has more power, but he line drives it. The ball gets to the receiver fast, and we can't cover quickly enough. I'm afraid that someone will return one on us soon.As for 2 punters, Hildreth is Igor's preferred holder. And since he's there, why not let him punt the second half when Stec seems to tire?
