  1. Davis and Love are both Ohioans....hmmm.This just shows what I've said before...JD does not like recruiting most of Ohio.
  2. 13.) Stec had a great game. He must have worked on something this past off season, because his hang time was the best I've seen. He's no longer just a directional kicker. The way I saw it, Stec had the same type of game he has had the last couple of years, no better than a good high school punter. He had a few good kicks early, but when he tried to place one inside the 20 from the 38, he got an 18 yard shank. He could have blasted it out of the end zone with the same results. Then he followed it with a 34 yarder. Same as last year, he kicks well early, then loses distance later. I have to wonder about his conditioning. Consistently inconsistent. That said, I was pleased with Jacq's play. After a couple of "to the sideline" throws, the play callers realized we could throw north and south with decent results. DK is just too small to run up the middle. We took advantage of turnovers, but killed momentum with stupid penalties. And BTW, I was there!
  3. I'll stand by my earlier thoughts....and I know nobody on this sight agrees.....I think this kid is a mistake, and I don't see where any good will come of it. But then, I think of the total college experience, not just how a kid can help the football team. And I won't call anybody names. Very bush league!
  4. How far did it go? A few hours in the court system before it was thrown out. It didn't even go to a jury because there was no evidence at all. Just an accusation.I guess you have me there...OK, he's a fine young man that every school wanted because he is so innocent. Oh, wait a sec; no they didn't! Only a desperate coach that needs to win now! And yes, he is desperate!
  5. I hope you never get accused of anything......I don't do anything illegal, so I have nothing to be afraid of.
  6. He is innocent, since according to the constitution people are innocent until proven guilty. He is not a molester, by any means. You obviously haven't been following his story. The others that were found guilty had consenting sex, but it was underaged and therefore a crime.I want you to find me one successful program in the last twenty years that hasn't had at least one kid on it that had a run-in with the law in a given year. Big programs sweep problems under the rug after the fact. Akron gets blasted for taking a kid who didn't do anything more than be accused of a crime, but it's a "risk". You can't win if you don't risk anything........Show me a successful program in Akron.......We are already in hot water with the NCAA for academics, now we are inviting even more problems. I feel something had to happen for him to even be accused. It wouldn't have gone as far as it did if the prosecutor hadn't thought there was a case.
  7. Giving this kid a scholarship is a TERRIBLE statement about this football team and program! I do believe in second chances, but don't give me this "innocent" crap. The charges were dismissed, but there had to be something there for these charges to ever be filed in the first place. Losing scholarships for acedemic reasons, and now we are giving one to an accused child molestor?! This program is turning into a laughingstock! Would he be given a second chance if he couldn't run over people? Ask yourselves this, and answer honestly. Would you want this kid living next door to you and your children?
  8. He has shown signs of being a great punter. Do you remember how he put on an All-American type performance against OSU? He has the talent. The coaches are the ones making him do the stupid rugby punt thing. If our punt-coverage has improved, Stec will be allowed to make more of the regular punts that he is capable of.Yes, he has shown signs of being good, but he has also shown signs of being bad. Yes, he had a good first half against OSU, but in the second half he was getting tired, and his punting slipped. Remember his last punt of the season? We were deep in our own territory and needed a boomer. Instead, we got a 20 yarder, giving them a short field. They quickly scored a TD to win. And his only long punts were rollers that weren't fielded and were allowed to roll. Too inconsistent for me, but acceptable for most people on this board. Like I said...mediocrity! Expect it, accept it, deserve it!
  9. Looks as though they are predicting what most people on this sight are willing to settle for...mediocrity! They seem to hit on what we all know, but I don't see how we will be solid on special teams as long as Stec is the punter. He has been inconsistent for 2 years now, and I don't see where he will be much better next year. What other choice do we have, though? Recruiting a good punter is like recruiting a good QB. It just ain't happening.
  10. Let's be fair to the guy...give him at least a couple of games before we call him the "next coming."
  11. No UA recruits from the South squad? Hmm, imagine that!
  12. How can you think JD recruits Ohio hard? They play damn good football ALL over the state, not just the northern half. Cincy has at least one, two, or even three teams every year in the USA Today top 25, but we only have one kid on our roster from Cincy, and only two others from the southern half of Ohio. I read about people complaining about how we can't afford what other schools can, but we can recruit heavily in Florida and California. How about recruiting in state?
  13. After 3 years of losing in the playoffs to Cincinnati parochial schools, I asked our football coach what we could do to finally beat those guys. His reply has stuck with me since."Get better!"
  14. This whole mess should be bothering everyone! This is not a racist issue; this is not the NCAA trying to screw mid-majors. This is a break down from the administration all the way to the student athlete. We have an administration letting a coach recruit whomever he wants without applying guidelines that I'm sure have been spelled out. Someone should have been on top of this right from the beginning.I figured something like this might happen when, at last year's Army game, they announced the players with a GPA above 3.0. I can't remember all of them, but it seemed most were Owens recruits. Mackey, Stokes, Hildreth, Flaherty(sp?), and there were only 13 total. I was told our TEAM GPA Just because JD says he is working on the problem (that he created) we won't know for a couple of years how this turns out.
  15. ,and kicking game should be solid. Our return games and placekicking should be good. But we need an answer at punter. Stec is not the answer! After 2 years as starter, he can only rank #90 in the NCAA? Unfortunately, spring ball will not give us any answers, as punters are told to "not kick hard" indoors. Don't want to hit any lights. Couldn't they schedule half an hout outside to get some work in?
  16. See the latest as Andy has THIRTEEN blocked shots to help Northmont capture a tie for first in their conference. Northmont is 14-1 now.Further update...he got those 13 blocks in a rematch against Trotwood Madison, the only team that has beaten Northmont this year. Parish seems to be one of those guys that does what is necessary to win and doesn't have a big ego. He will get his teammates involved.
  17. UAkid, I agree with you! Starting each year with a losing record is not the way to build a program or fan base. And there is no way another conference would ever look at us until we have a winning program year in and year out. If we started each year with a CUSA school and beat them, we would grow some respect. But until we do that, no other conference would even look at a second tier MAC program!
  18. Blame the offensive coordinator all you want.....If he had just an average qb to work with we win 6 games...Better than average--we win 7-8.Find a quarterback now, even if it means bringing in a JUCO....(although 15 years in to our MAC affiliation, I continue to be befuddled on why a good Ohio high school quarterback wouldn't choose to play for the Zips with an opportunity to start for 4 years, but they don't.).........................Let me say a couple of things here...I'm not sure JD would know a good HS QB if he saw one. There was a kid from SW Ohio a couple of years ago that was All-ohio first team D-1. 6'3", 205#, once threw 8 TD passes in one game. JD said that he didn't like the way the kid threw. Oh, wait a minute...he was from SW Ohio. JD doesn't recruit there. Now, if the kid was from California or Florida, JD would have jumped all over the kid!
  19. He has shown the ability to learn and adapt at recruiting. How? By saying something? The more and more we have his players playing, the worse we are! And now we are losing Masckey, Arthur, And stokes, to name a few of Owens' recruits. Who will replace them?
  20. 5) I would suggest that we all had elevated expectations based on 2005 and were hungry for a repeat -- I'll admit I am.... JD is trying to build a program and the success early may actually have been a detriment....What a damn shame to have elevated expectations! Are we supposed to expect lousy teams because we are Akron? Why. Why not expect, and demand, excellence? OMG, we had a good team. I can hardly wait until next year when we suck again! How pathetic that anyone would even say that "expectations are too high!"
  21. She said, "Marketing the MAC is like being the Director of Marketing at Dollar General. You can get people to shop once, but once they see the crap you are selling, they don't want to come back." I first thought, "OMG, I'm going to agree with GP1!" But then I realized that I am actually agreeing with his wife! I will agree with him that his wife is smarter than he is.The new stadium will help for one seaqson, but untill we get a consistent winner, they will not come back.
