  1. Thanks for posting this sight! It helps prove one thing I've been harping on all season...our punting game! Stec is ranked #99 in the country, and our net average is also ranked #99! Again, I say it is time to give Hildreth a chance. He is also on scholarship, why not see if he can do better. Hopefully he can't do much worse!

    J.D. -

J.D. took over the special teams this year and has done a fantastic job. Remember the anxiety during extra points last year, now Igor may break the single season FG record. Special teams has produced the most exciting plays this year. Bryan Williams will likely be leading the NCAA on K.O. returns after this week and Andre Jones is in the tops on punt returns.I agree, our special teams, except for our punting game, are doing quite well, especially the return teams. But I want to clear something up. JD has been the special teams coach since he got here. He just declared it for this season. But I still think he should let an assistant or two take over the special teams and let JD free to manage the entire team.
  3. Yes, big props to Igor! Also want to give a hand to Andy Hildreth, the new holder. He took over when Mackey went down and has done a good job since. Good game to watch on TV. This team played a very good game all around, I think our best of the year. I hope we can keep the momentum up at Miami!
  4. The fact is that Domonkos thought he had dropped the class, but technically, he never did. It was an honest mistake that was not caught by anyone.
  5. You will not see them both play. JD is an egomaniac, and playing both will show that he has made a mistake. And that won't happen. CJ7 started and was replaced only when he got "in trouble." Then CJ11 was ineffective and needed to be replaced. Now all of a sudden he is "in trouble." JD can't admit mistakes, so he has to make something up to justify a move. He has wanted Domonkos out since he got here, and now all of a sudden, "academic problems." This is why Stec continues as punter, despite the 16 yard punts and lousy field position. Replacing him would show that JD made a mistake, and force him to use an Owens recruit in Hildreth. Ain't gonna happen!
  6. Akron is on the move. Where are they moving to? Cleveland?
  7. Those of you who think changing coaches is going to change the program are mistaken. JD has his problems, but the University's approach to athletics is years behind what it needs to be for UofA to have a winning program. It isn't the coaches who have turned Akron into "The Graveyard of Coaches", it is the University that does it.Talk like this, maybe it's time to drop back a division or 2, or drop football altogether! If the school won't give us a chance to win, why bother? And don't jump on me for saying this. But if the school is that much against building a winning program, well. Honestly, who is happy with this program right now?
  8. But firing a coach 3.5 years into a rebuilding process after taking over a bad program from a bad coach is really jumping the gun. JD had some early success, and now some of you are holding him to that standard, and that is really unfair. We still have quite a bit of work left to rebuild this program, and last night was a good example.Normally, I would agree. But I have to ask, what rebuilding have we seen?
  9. That game last night was a huge embarassment! This team has quit on JD! They do not like the man and don't want to play for him! When we made a good play, they kept their arms folded across their chests. No one cheered! They were all rerady to go home by the end of the first quarter. And so was I. Even the AK Rowdie with no shirt on left in the third quarter. Can JD get the young men back? I have to say no. By the time the game was over, why not put in the second string to give them a little game experience? The coaching was again horrible! Wasting 2 time outs in the first quarter just to get plays called? Make an adjustment on kickoff returms? Never happened! Maybe if we had a special teams coach instead of a head coach coaching special teams, an adjustment would have been made. For those of you defending the guy, that's your opinion. Mine is to get rid of him!
  10. OK, now it is officially embarassing! How bad have we been outscored in the second half this season? Again, this goes back to coaching! Adjustments are made by other teams, but our guys are told to stick to the game plan! I have been harping on this all season. I could make my argument about the coaching, but reading these previous posts, I don't think I need to. Welcome, my friends!
  11. Damn special teams!!!, as soon as we say it's improvedWho says they are improved?
  12. I read an article this morning that OSU's football team...TEAM...has a GPA over 3.0. What is ours? About 1.5. Is it a shame that OSU gets the money they do, or that we call our players student athletes?
  13. I've also heard that. He doesn't think he'll get the medical redshirt, so he wants to play. I hope for his sake, he doesn't. Walking when you're older is much more important!
  14. I'm sorry, but a new stadium will fix nothing! Oh, attendance will be up for a season or two, but if the product on the field doesn't improve, the novelty of a new stadium will wear off quickly!
  15. How has he corrected his recruiting mistakes? Has he righted the special teams? Who was the special teams coach last year?ST coach has been JD since he got here. If correcting his mistakes means ST are doing better, well, except for punting, I'll gove you that. But how has he turned aroung his recruiting mistakes? How long are we supposed to let him learn from his mistakes? No, I'm not saying he should be fired, but demote him to what he already is, a special teams coach! And if the punting doesn't improve, then fire him!
  16. All these are valid points. But I want to add special teams to this list. How long are we going to put up with bad field position out punter gives us? Serioyusly, a 15 yard punt? This was not a block! It went straight up, it came straight down. Temple started on its 50, and with a short field, got a field goal! Special teams are one third of the game. Our returns are much improved. Our place kicking is much improved. Our punting game is poor for a high school, much less a D-1 college! We have another punter on scholarship, give him a chance!
  17. Lee Adams...I agree with you! Once again we are out-coached and out-scored in the swcond half. When the fans are thinking, "Here we go again!" it's time to do something different! I say we should put in some of those great recruiting classes he has had! What? Oh, yeah. Most of them never made it to school!
  18. I guess it's time for my 2 cents.Play calling was atrocious; I think we all agree. Who's fault? Yes, the offensive coordinator calls the plays. But shouldn't JD override what isn't working? He didn't! He was PO'd at the coordinator, but I think this falls directly in JD's lap! Wasn't a game plan in place. Didn't JD approve it? Wasn't he paying attention to what was going on? Not enough! He was too busy yelling "Punt alert!" and making sure his special teams were ready. Special teams need to be handed off to an assistant coach so JD can manage the entire game! And speaking of special teams, the punting game was again abysmal! A 15 yard punt? Come on now! When the first QB did not play well, he was replaced. When our tailback didn't perform, he was replaced. Our punter is terrible. Why isn't he replaced? I say it is time to give Hildreth a chance. Can he do worse than a 15 yarder? God, I hope not! If he is so bad, why is he on scholarship?Oh, and GP1, I know you won't agree with me, but don't call me names this week!
  19. GP1, I am here. Yes, I have cricized JD in the past, and I stand by my critiques. But yes, that was a great game and win. Leave it at that, and I will not say anything negative on this thread. But I will remember what uakronkid said! So go ahead and gloat, you have this week!
  20. I will not resort to name calling, as does GP1, if someone disagrees with me. I will gladly say that I was happy we won this game, and give credit to the special teams coach for calling that last play. Have we turned the corner? I don't know, but I hope so. We still have a few more games left, and as we have seen, anything is possible in the MAC this year!
  21. I think it's safe to say that we are all fans and we want the Zips to do well, or we wouldn't be on this sight. I realize some of you are diehard JD fans, although I don't understand why, and some of us see what we think are correctable flaws. If you are willing to let mediocrity rule the day, well, that is your perogative. Others, like me, want to win and win often. I think the statement that starts this thread, "Wait til 2009!" is absurd! That will be JD's sixth season! Do you really want to wait that long?
  22. But we like high school numbers. Just look at our punting! And don't give me that "potential" or the Ohio State game. One good game out of what, 15?
  23. Accountable for these recruiting classes! For 3 years now, we have been told what a great class he has recruited. And for 2 years guys have been saying, "Wait for his recruits to get going!" Where are they? I'll answer that for you. Someplace else! Many were not intelligent enough to get in to school, or too lazy to keep at it when they did get in. Look at the list of scholar athletes honored at the Patriot Bowl for a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Only 13! I heard the team GPA was about a 1.5. Take away these 13, and how low would we be? Time to stop recruiting dummies!
  24. Yeah, we don't want to take a chance and maybe get someone better! We are a division 1 team, and I don't expect to win every game, but I will not accept the fact that we are expected to lose games like this. If that is what we expect, that is what we will get! My point is that JD is given credit for many good things that are not materializing. I'm just pointing out that we shouldn't give credit where credit is not due.
  25. What is this? Some negativity? I have been reading and listening for 4 years now to the folks on this sight, but every time I say something negative, I get put down. Let me say a few things. JD is NOT a genius. I kept hearing about his great recruiting classes. These are almost all his players now! Where are we? He decided to take over the special teams this year. (Who had them since he has been here? JD!) We got burned for a KO return yesterday, our punting game is an embarassment. We are finally getting a decent placekicking game, but we don't get much of a chance to use him!As far as coaching goes, JD is a good salesman. He sells recruits every year on the program, even though most of them don't qualify, he sold himself to get the job, and he has sold us a bill of goods! He does not keep his word, taking away scholarships from deserving kids (more on this after the season.)He was MAC COY with the previous coach's players, won the MAC the next year with most of the previous coach's kids, and nothing since. My greatest wish is that we have a great season and he takes another job, or we have a terrible season and he gets fired!Let the complaining begin!
