Speaking as one of those "handicap" parkers. may I just say, "FU!"

Who scores the first touchdown at the info?
uafan replied to g-mann17's topic in Akron Zips Football
Sorry, but sadly Morgan St. scores on a blocked punt that is bobbled by our punter (Stec). We still go on to beat them, though. -
I think this is a great idea! But how about a "practice tailgating" a week before the season starts? And have the team come out and mingle! They would love some good cooking and we could get to know the players better. Maybe wqe could have a BBQ contest and the team captains could be the judges. Getting to know the players. What a concept!

UUUHHHHHH.....Win?Seriously, we should have some great crowds the first couple of games, but unless they get a good show, they won't come back. That said, here are a couple of ideas. For students, set up a season-long contest where attendance at games increase their chances of winning. Then, at halftime of the last home game, a name is drawn for something good, like a scholarship for one year, or something smaller like books for the following semester. And food! Give kids free food, and they will tell all their friends. What restaurant wouldn't like that kind of buzz? For non-students, a weekly prize, like season tickets, followed by a season ending big prize, like a car. Many local car dealers would stand in line to be featured at halftime at a packed stadium to get such great advertisement. I know of a dealership that gives away a car at after prom at a high school every year. They have the car sitting in front of the school for a month before prom, and everybody talks about it.Giveaways, giveaways, giveaways. After a year or two, hopefully we will show a good product on the field, which should be enough to make people come back.

sans coaches! The kickers are not allowed to kick hard indoors (don't want the lights busted out), so if they want to get in some true practice, they have to go outside. And usually it is done after formal practice, and they do it on their own time. and rarely does a special teams coach go with them!

IMO, nothing short of a MAC championship will suffice. JD has been here long enough to get his people in here, he has an outstanding coaching staff, and his job is, or should be, on the line. I think we will be OK offensively, but D and special teams bother me.

A few years ago, this wouldn't matter, but now it does. Has anyone heard about handicap parking and seats? I couldn't climb the steps at the RB, and even with my rehab, I can't do any stadium seats. I hate it, but I need my handicap areas!

Some ideas that work at another school.....This student group consists of over 3000 students. The school reserves good sections for them in football and basketball, (over 2500 tickets), and tickets are free. But they have to join. They collect points for helping with fund raisers and attending other sporting events. The more points, the better. Than, when it comes time to distrbute tickets, they use these points to get better tickets. This helps in so many ways. The kids get involved in community activities, lesser sports get more attendance with kids trying to build their point totals. When it comes time for a rivalry game or a TV game, the more points gets them prime seats to maybe make a fool of themselves on national TV.It's a big social club with many perks for the kids. Oh, BTW, it doesn't hurt to have a lot of cute girls join! And everybody hears about this group at freshman orientation, and in the weekly student paper.

gotta get the big tamale for that... otherwise it's regional at best, and fleeting.Hell, even national exposure is fickle.I would even settle for some regional exposure right now! Here we are in Akron...we want the sporting world to know us...what Akron icon (other than LeBron) is seen at sporting events all over the country? The Blimp! Why not have our logo pasted on the side of the blimp? Stadiums full of sports fans, and millions more on TV, would see it. Than, when we win a few games, it will stick in peoples minds. Just a thought.

Very athletic and mobile kid. When you are 6' 10" in high school, you're a center. But I see him as a 4 in college.

Outstanding!!!!!!!

Why would anyone want a new arena off campus? Wasn't that one of the big complaints against the RB? And if the administration were to do anything, now is the time to start with the MAC championship fresh in everyones' minds. But there has to be an energy built up about the program, and it isn't there yet. Again, look at Dayton. They took their NCAA run in the mid 60's to get the new arena started, and have commited to keeping it a first class venue. They have moved into second place for most NCAA tournament games hosted. Even with down years, they still get close to 12-13,000 per game. A UD basketball game is a big social event.

The MAC takes another step towards insignificance
uafan replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
I am pretty sure Dayton never had a DI-A program. It would benefit the MAC if we were able to shed some programs that not pulling their weight. You are right that several schools are not pursueing excellence within their program rather looking for the easy fiscal answer. Let them drop, I would be happy to see our conference remain with the best eight schools. Two questions........how old are you?Wanna place a wager based on your knowledge of Dayton football?I'll straighten this up right now.....Dayton was most definitely a D-1 football program until the mid 70's, playing a MAC level schedule against teams like Miami, Ball State and Cincy. We dropped to D-III for a few years until the NCAA said we had too much of an advantage with the money from our basketball program, and they instituted the "Dayton rule", where we could not be D-I in one sport and D-III in football. So we moved up to D-IA, non-scholarship, where we are now. And now you've had your history lesson for today. -
Winning curers a lot of ills, and that is where we need to start. Every year in football we start out O-for, sacrificing for the sake of a "pay day." Our revenues should be up with Info, so let's drop these early season pay days and schedule someone who will do a home-and-home (Cincy) where we will be competetive. When was the last time we were 1-0 to start the season? Have more than 4 or 5 home games. get the students excited, get the community hooked (with the new stadium) and this will begin the building. Also, make recruiting a few Akron kids a priority. 1 or 2 kids on the roster from Akron won't cut it. With home town kids playing, home town support follows. And don't tell me Akron area high schools don't turn out college ability athletes.

Ohio State Tries to Poach 2-Star Miami OH Recruit
uafan replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Back on subject here....I was surprised the Boucher kid was offered by OSU, but the kid is not the clean whistle he might be perceived as. Nobody mentions here that he had previously commited to OU, but dropped them when he thought he could do better. He didn't want to sit behind a 6'6" 235# soph-to-be at OSU, so he is going to Miami where he will sit behind a 6'6" 235# soph-to-be, Clay Belton. Should have stuck to OU, kid! -
So... What time do the faxes usually start rolling in?
uafan replied to w00t's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Good thing! we haven't had a good punter since Billy Sulliven graduated. At least, not one we ever had a chance to see! -
Deservedly so!
-
All good arguments here.....but let's not forget the academic side. He is in charge of seeing that our student athletes get an education, but as we saw by losing 5 scholarships, even that is not being done.
-
I just heard the last minute or two, and what I heard was quite disturbing.....Temple scores after a 17 yard punt??!! Who said earlier this year that Stec was a great punter? He's terrible! Williams tries to pick up a blocked FG, only to lose it right back to Temple??!! Hello. Leon Lett? One blocked and one missed FG??!! Special teams are not a strength of this team. Thank God it's over!
-
Ahhh, the refrain of losers everywhere..."Wait 'til next year!"
-
Gee, I guess I didn't understand what you weere saying. I'm just getting tired of people who seem to be happy when we come close in a game others said we should lose. If we come close, we should win, especially at home. That is what upsets me. And until we start winning those games, we won't earn anyone's respect. The media looks at Akron, and in what should be a close game, they automatically pick us to lose. That is what we need to turn around!
-
Bottom line: Akron has the talent, and the coaching, now we just need to go out there and put some W's on the board. That's all it comes down to. This season was as close as it gets. There's really only two games this year that we flat out LOST. We won close games we should of won, and lost some close games that the media said we would lose. We need to start winning those to take the next step in the right direction. Are you good with this statement? Are you satisfied that we lost some close games the media said we would lose? "Oh well, the media says we should lose, so I hope we can just keep it close!" Bulls--t! The fact is, we are losing winnable games, and until we turn that around, we are a loser program! All the talent and coaching in the world are no good until we start winning. If you're OK coming close, fine. But don't expect me to be happy with these results!

 haven't beaten a team with a winning record..1 win at home...what am i missing?..that said if brookhart goes 6-6 he gets another year and a locker at the INFO...if not 3 losing seasons in a row after 2 + one win seasons..!Thats idiotic. Your basing the job security of our coach on ONE game? Please. What's idiotic about his statement? And what are you saying? Which ONE game are you talking about?
