  1. We're eternal optimists, aren't we?! Terrible performances the last couple of weeks and here we are chest-bumping because we're on TV against a team out of the SEC. Holding our own, though, for the time being! Dare I say 'go zips?'
  2. LaFrance had his man beat down the middle. Nicely threw it out where LaFrance could run under it. Hit LaFrance in the hands and fell to the ground. Ball looked to be over his right shoulder. Probably caught if it is over his left. Oh well ...
  3. WHAT a drop ...
  4. Akron / Kentucky now on channelsurfing.net.
  5. Thanks Zach and zipsfan13!
  6. It's actually a Time Warner/Disney thing. Even thought TW and Disney worked out a new agreement in early September that includes access to ESPN3, 95% of TW broadband customers (according to the person I talked to today) STILL can't access ESPN3 . Probably doesn't matter tonight - Kentucky already down to the Akron 18 yard line.
  7. My family pack was devalued long ago. No worries here - butts in seats BUT PLEASE include a warning with the ticket 4-pack: "What you are about to witness may not be suitable for ..."
  8. Dear Mr. Schlabach - You have OBVIOUSLY not watched in person or by any other means either of our games so far this year. There is absolutely NO question that we are deserving of a MUCH higher ranking than #6. Forget our match-ups the next couple of weeks against the SEC and Big 10 - those are guaranteed, in-the-toilet , blowouts that will keep us solidly in your Bottom 10. I've got a ticket ... no make that FOUR tickets you can have to our next home game 10/2 or I'll buy a ticket for you if you'd rather witness 'Akron football' at rival Can't State on 10/9. Seeing is believing! Let there be no doubt - we don't have what it takes to be anywhere other than Top 4 in the Bottom 10 and I'd wager right now we'll be giving Western Kentucky a run for their money for that coveted top spot in the coming weeks. Go Zips!
  9. Caleb Porter As complete a package as I've ever seen.
  10. I work the first half of all home games and usually can't wait to enjoy the 2nd half from one of four season ticket seats. I sat down Saturday, saw a 50-yard gain by Gardner and headed home. As stated above, I had better things to do with my time than watch bad football. My son chose to play tennis instead of tail-gate and didn't even attend the game. Very sad state of affairs right now regarding UA football. Looking forward to the soccer match Friday night. Also looking forward to pre-game on the radio Saturday night and as much of the first quarter as I can stomach. Totally agree that past success is the best predictor for future success. Have no idea why we didn't hire someone who has a proven track record at a lower level (Jim Tressel, Brian Kelly, etc.). 3K-6K actual the rest of the way unless we start winning.
  11. 52-3 Kentucky. Will show up at #2 on ESPN's Bottom 10.
  12. Hey, look at the bright side ...
  13. 11-8 .... Akron.
  14. I'm OK with deducting a point from the football team for the 4th-and-2 field goal attempt. GIVE THE PEOPLE THEIR $20 WORTH COACH I!
  15. How do you get respect of the bigger conferences and their fan base in any sport? You earn it. From another post on the WFU board ... "I question why we played a 4-2-3-1, but we could've played anything and would have lost tonight. Akron is the best team in the country. Period."
  16. From a post on the WFU board ... "Here's and independent observer, Joe Mauceri, of ProPlayer Pipeline....certainly didn't have alot to say about WFU.. Assessment of professional soccer prospects in America sep 5, 2010 Akron @ Wake ForestPosted by Joe Mauceri under - 2010 Fall, 2010 Games Leave a Comment Winston-Salem, NC – On a lovely September evening in a sold-out SRO capacity game, Akron beat Wake Forest (WF) 2-0. It was so packed people were looking under the screens to catch a glimpse of this match. The announced attendance was 4,583. The highest regular season match attendance. Starting Lineups: Akron 4-4-2. F: Darren Mattocks, Darlington Nagbe M: Michael Nanchoff, Anthony Ampaipitakwong, Perry Kitchen, Eric Stevenson D: Chris Korb, Chad Barson, Zarek Valentin, Kofi Sarkodie G: David Meves WF 4-2-3-1. F: Andy Lubahn M:Kyle Emerson, Luciano Delbono, Luca Gimenez DM: Sam Redmond, Ben Newnam D: Luke Norman, Kyle Adams, Anthony Arena, Tolani Ibikunle G: Akira Fitzgerald Akron observations: Akron’s first goal was scored by freshman forward Darren Mattocks in the 15th minute. The assist went to junior forward Darlington Nagbe. Nagbe sliced a pass through the WF defense to Mattocks who gathered the ball 6 yards from goal and outside the goal box. His shot was from a slight angle and the shot hit WF senior goal keeper Akira Fitzgerald and went in. Fitzgerald should have stopped the shot. Akron’s second goal was scored by Nagbe from 15 yards to the far post in the 53rd minute. On the play, junior right back Kofi Sarkodie touched the ball to Nagbe and than it was the Nagbe show. Sarkodie was locking down the Akron right side – if beaten, he would use speed to recover and use his body to shield the attacker off the ball. In the 47th minute, Mattocks was fouled by junior defender Jesse Sokolow 25 yards from goal. Junior midfielder Michael Nanchoff was able to bounced the ball in the box – looking for freshman midfielder Perry Kitchen’s head. Nanchoff hit the cross-bar from a 30 yard free kick in the 22nd minute. Kitchen is tremendous in the air and reads the game quickly. Sophomore center back Chad Barson had a difficult assignment marking up with talented sophomore forward Andy Lubahn was held without a shot for the game. Sophomore center back Zarek Valentin played equally exceptionally – but he was more involved in cleaning up any messes. For example, in the 15th minute, sophomore midfielder Ben Newnam’s dangerous free kick was cleared by Valentin. Nagbe has quick feet and has the ability to hold the ball until his team mates arrive. His passing is superlative. Sophomore David Meves didn’t have any saves, but he did punch a ball in traffic in the 84th minute. Senior midfielder Anthony Ampaipitakwong was taken out of the game in the first half by junior DM Sam Redmond physical play. If Ampaipitakwong doesn’t get calls, he’s ineffective. This is one of my concern with Amp and the next level. He’ll need to play even quicker and get stronger for a physical league like MLS. Freshman forward McKauly Tulloch isn’t going to see much playing time if continues playing passively like he did the 77th minute allowing junior defender Kyle Adams to run by him while he waited for it to roll to him. Additionally, in the 74th minute, he needlessly fouled a player 23 yards from his goal. Junior midfielder Michael Balogun played with controlled intensity. WF observations: Sophomore midfielder Danny Wenzel is being held out of tonight’s game, because he suffered “a minor concussion” on Friday’s game. WF had difficulty building a consistent attack until late in the game when Akron was packing it back. Lubahn is a speedy forward who works very hard. Sophomore midfielder Luciano Delbono had a beautiful first touch in the 73rd minute splitting 2 Akron defenders, but his subsequent pass was stolen. A minute later, Delbono delivered a perfect pass to Lubahn flying down the middle of the field, but Barson was able to toe-poke it away. Freshman forward Chris Duvall explodes out of midfield. Junior midfielder Sam Redmond took Ampaipitakwong out of the game in the first half. Sophomore defender Anthony Arena was very busy picking up the Akron players flooding the box."
  17. Football and basketball take note - THAT'S how you take care of business in a game that means something. AWESOME WIN ZIPS!!!!!!
  18. Syracuse 38 Akron 13 It's going to take some winning to help me get rid of this hangover.
  19. Way to do your homework on the #1 team in the country! (worth the red card)
  20. Best of luck to you Steve. Enjoy your playing time and keep our skies safe. It was a pleasure meeting and talking to you over the years. You're a great example of how to approach and live Life. Please stop back and say "Hi" one of these days.
  21. Prairie View A&M ... Houston Baptist University .... Someone explain to me how this is a no-brainer? Thanks Mack.
  22. (Son - log me out next time :-)
  23. I'm sure we're going to hear KD give us the "He's going to have to earn his way into the line-up just like everyone else ... blah, blah, blah ..." Whatever KD - spare us and just get him out there to cut his teeth from the get-go at the college level.
  24. Henninger gets game MVP. Final question to him during post-game interview ... Sideline reporter: "Oh ... you're a senior. So what's next for you?" Henninger: "Can't State" Sideline reporter: "Good Luck!" (no, she wasn't wishing you well ... she really meant it ... GOOD LUCK! )
  25. That's the second time I've seen Egner lock arms with a guy and send him flying - sneaky dirty
