  1. Another plus regarding Cventinovic - he couldn't wait to play for Akron! I love that and that's one of reasons I'm with the others on this board who look forward to seeing Swiech get (earn) some time out on the floor.
  2. Thanks for the reminder Bleacher. I've been enjoying Tu/W/Th MAC football on TV. Sure glad Time Warner added ESPNU.By the way, in the area of smack, official attendance at last night's NIU rout of Can't (42-14) at Dix Stadium as reported on ESPN ...ATTENDANCE: 2,267 WHY do they continue to try ???
  3. Does anyone on the board have ANY idea why French's call of the game on 1350AM is 10 seconds behind??? I don't recall any delay in the past being this bad. I have always listened to the games at the JAR and Rubber Bowl but I've quit doing so this year it's so far behind the action. Did Frenchy or Dunn cut loose with an F-bomb-laced tirade that I somehow missed??? I can live with a one or two second delay but TEN? Unacceptable.
  4. NAIA Division I (basketball) & NAIA Division II (football)I sure hope Mack and Co. are able to somehow rework next Tuesday so soccer and basketball don't go head-to-head. Mack told me last night that there is no way the soccer game changes date or time (current forecast: 35 degrees tops & 40% chance of rain/snow showers).
  5. No doubt, Blue & Gold. The Rowdies sounded GREAT the other night and it was nice to see both ends basically full AND enthusiastic. Loved the back-and-forth cheers, especially "I BELIEVE!" Keep it full and loud the rest of the year!
  6. Urbana??? See all of you guys at the soccer game next Tuesday (and I'm one of those who really struggles to appreciate outdoor soccer).Seriously, Mack needs to call the principal over at Urbana High School and reschedule the men's basketball game for either Monday or Wednesday next week!
  7. I like our bracket! 2nd Round - home match against winner of Oakland/tosu next Tuesday, November 25th.Assuming we continue to win ...3rd Round - home match against Northwestern/Loyola winner/Notre Dame. Qtr Finals - home match IF Michigan State loses in 2nd or 3rd round; away match if Michigan State survives round 2 and 3 along with Akron.I hope Steve Z's ankle heals up in time for next Tuesday's match. Looking forward to it - GO ZIPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Congratulations!
  8. Way to go Zips! Nice pics by the way.Akron goal was actually scored with just over 5 minutes to go in the second overtime. Watch party tomorrow (Monday) at 6PM at the JAR in the Tommy Evans Lounge.
  9. What does it say about where our society is headed when EVERYTHING seems to be policed to the hilt.Great story and memory for you and your son CK. Great way to close out your final night at the Rubber Bowl. Too bad UA couldn't find a way to let everyone walk onto the field and look around one last time. Too much "risk and liability" I guess ...
  10. From GoZips.com following Akron's win at Hartwick earlier this year ...* * * * *ONEONTA, N.Y. – Behind a pair of scores from Steve Zakuani, the No. 2 University of Akron men’s soccer team rolled to a 2-1 victory at Hartwick Saturday night in its Mid-American Conference regular season finale at Elmore Field. The Zips (14-1-3, 6-0-0 MAC) will have one final tune-up at Ohio State next Friday before hosting the MAC Tournament at Lee Jackson Field from Nov. 13-16. Akron clinched its 11th regular-season title against Western Michigan last weekend and will receive a first-round bye as the No. 1 seed.“We looked like a well oiled machine tonight and I thought we finally played to our potential on both sides of the ball for 90 minutes,” said third-year coach Caleb Porter. “I was very proud of our mental toughness dealing with a sloppy field and a very physical Hartwick team."UA dominated the contest from start to finish, out-shooting Hartwick, 17-7, for the game and 7-1 in the first half. The game featured seven yellow cards and an ejection of Hartwick's Sam Wright.“We kept plugging away and never lost focus,” Porter added. “We talked about playing like a team on a mission and it looked that way tonight.”Zakuani, who entered the week as the nation’s points leader, gave the Zips a 1-0 lead in the closing moments of the opening period. The speedy forward collected a Hartwick clearance at the top of the box and scored to the goalkeeper's right-hand side for a 1-0 Akron lead with 43 seconds left. The Hermann Trophy candidate struck again in the 73rd minute off a feed from Matt Tutich to post his fourth multiple-score game of the season. Tutich slipped a pass to Zakuani, who broke into the box, made a quick cutback to beat a Hartwick defender, and beat the 'keeper low for his 17th tally of the season.Akron was denied its 13th shutout of the year when Hartwick’s John Paul Boyle found the net in the 85th minute. The Zips will square off in their regular-season finale in Columbus against the Buckeyes next Friday at 7:30 p.m. (EST)Zips Notebook: Akron improved to 4-1-1 all-time versus Hartwick and completed its seventh undefeated MAC regular-season since joining the league in 1993 ... With his 16th and 17th goals of the year Saturday, Zakuani matched Hartick's season total (17) as a team ... UA is 76-10-6 versus teams from the MAC since '93 and is undefeated in its last 13 league contests dating back to the 2006 season ... The intensity was high in the late stages of the game as four cards were issued in the final sixteen minutes.* * * * *Hey Rowdies - see what you can do to get inside the head of Hartwick's #11 Sam Wright (ejected in the last meeting up in New York) and possibly some of the other Hartwick players. Should be at Lee Jackson tonight - I hope we bring our 'A' game - GO ZIPS!
  11. No problem. Too bad UA's attempt to spruce up the place a bit (see above) was a little too little too late. Nice touches though ...
  12. Based on various things I've read here and elsewhere, it seems like there are even MORE Who-Gives-A-Flying-Crap bowls out there to be filled this year and that most if not all 7-5 teams will go somewhere.Tough road to travel (SIX straight road wins?!) to get to 7-5. I'm pulling for the Zips but injuries and other factors (talent, coaching, execution) have us ending up where most mediocre teams do ... 5-7 or 6-6.Disappointing at this point given the opportunities we had to beat Cincinnati, BGSU, and Buffalo ... ALL AT HOME.Many good memories but I will not miss the Rubber Bowl. WAY, WAY past the time when it should have been filled back in in favor of a modern facility. I didn't even take the time to use the troughs one last time (my son did though) ...
  13. I was going to wait for Bleacher Bum's prediction before committing to mine but here goes ... Akron 38UB 27Come on Akron - a full house and quite a bit at stake should be more than enough motivation - notch the "W" and start the preparation for OU ... GO ZIPS !!!
  14. Dr. Proenza's "Akron Advantage" shining through once again!
  15. Zeke LOI = Can't SOL
  16. Drunken Hippie Safe House (It's also got to be dysfunctional as hell in there!)
  17. They need to add a faint image of Zeke's face lurking in the background on the cover of THIS year's UA basketball media guide, kinda like how the 'evil' Zippy lurks in the corner of posters and on the scoreboard before intros.
  18. The Beacon has their priorities backwards. Not long from now (if it's not like that already), more people will go to the internet for their news than waiting for the paper to be delivered.Bingo uakronkid. Sorry Dan but that's exactly how I feel. I haven't purchased a newspaper in YEARS. Real-time news on the Internet. The newspaper is yesterday's news (among other reasons).
  19. Thank you, Master Watcher.
  20. < cricket sounds > here, GoZips.com, and Rasor's Blog ... Can someone in the McKeesport area PLEASE drive over there to find out what's going on???
  21. It's nice to see "Ozoner the Douche" being his usual self over there.I guess there isn't much to talk about these days over on BobcatAttack.
  22. O-H N-O ... THE DON !!!!!!!!!
  23. B) 44! B)
  24. A great part of my childhood summers. The Indians were really bad but it was still fun listening to Herb help call the games.Loved it when he was less than perfect with his calls ..."Line drive base hit centerfield, Lofton goes over and makes the catch. One out."Rest in peace, Herb.
