  1. Jacq's ball should have been thrown towards JD on the sideline ... I thought he deliberately threw it into the ground and not as close to the feet of Kennedy as it should have been. He LOOKED like he was trying to get rid of the ball instead of making it LOOK like he was throwing it to Kennedy (gotta 'sell it' a little bit). Water under the bridge at this point but I'd have my QBs chuck that thing to the sidelines whenever possible ('oops, it sailed high over the receivers head - so sorry about that ... musta slipped.').It appeared to me that Pride is the next guy in line. Torrence was dressed but didn't stretch, put his helmet on or do ANYTHING else that would make me believe JD is thinking of calling his number at all this year. Pride had his helmet on and started to stretch fairly soon after Johnson went down. I like our fullback Tuzze but I hope Kennedy and Pride can carry the load the rest of the long road (7 MAC games plus 1 or 2 more?) we have left this year.Sure wish we had Cincy's kicker. He sure looked the part ... walked out there confidently, struck the ball well, end-over-end in flight, and sailed through the uprights with plenty of distance to spare. Those (game-winning) are ideally where FGs are to be used ... we failed, they didn't.Loved the effort on the defensive side of the ball. Encouraged but disappointed once again by all of the mistakes. So many opportunities to bag another win over a BCS-level team and we didn't get it done. 4th-and-the-length-of-a-football ... No way we should lose to Can't but all bets are off when it comes to rivalry games. Going against my better judgment and making the trek to Dix Stadium next Saturday. I'd better not be leaving at half-time again like I did two years ago. Cincy's 3rd-string QB reminded me of Can't State QB Edelman and it gave me shivers. Sure hope Eugene Jarvis is still in street clothes ... Go Zips!
  2. That may depend on whether 75% of their fan base stops off at The Shoe or a bar between Cincy and Akron to watch 'THE GAME' before scurrying the rest of the way up I-71 to catch what's left of the Cincy/Akron game. I sure hope tOSU wins or a hefty number of our "fans" may be too pissed off to make the trek out to the Bowl after 'THE GAME.' I'd say their "... will most likely outdraw ..." comment probably holds water. Guess we'll see!
  3. Much of what we see in the world can be explained mathematically. Bravo is right - can't wait to show my son that the crap he's learning in math at school REALLY does have real-world application! (not sure I remember the 'homer upset reversal function' but that's OK ...)
  4. 20 - 17 Zips (THANK YOU crappy weather!)
  5. Not sure that Cardinal knew what hit it. I hope that's the case on Saturday (our offense had BETTER be hitting on all cylinders again; our defense also needs to do a better job than it did against SU). We're currently listed as 7-point underdogs in Vegas.
  6. Yeah, Can't played at home against Delaware St. last year as well (3rd game of the season) and beat them 38-7. I sure hope our cupcake days are over. Hard enough watching a couple of them in basketball but it's even worse when you get one as part of a limited 5 game home schedule (6 someday AND no FCS schools?).
  7. sourceSince the Winthrop game comes early in the season, what will this mean for the big guys? An extra game to learn, or are their other big men still a challenge?"Other big men" seems to be a stretch ...Winthrop rosterThe other center they currently have listed is a transfer and is forced to sit this year. They've got some other 6'7" and 6'8" guys but they are relatively young (F/So). I didn't look at their stats to see if any of them (all forwards) contributed much last year. I would think Bardo and Swiech should be able to have their way inside on both ends. Assuming we match their intensity/determination, we should clean up on the O/D boards. I hope so.
  8. And if that doesn't inspire you then how about the fact that an "UNNAMED", 4****, 7 FOOT, 2009 RECRUIT will be on campus this weekend taking his "OFFICIAL VISIT" and will be in attendance at the Home Opener!!!!! Any guesses...Bueller, Bueller, Bueller!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Counting the days until November signing day. Can't wait to see who we land! Enjoy the visit and the game - GO ZIPS!!!!!!!!!!
  9. Akron up on Cincy 2-1 in the 58th minute.Here's the Live link I'm using ...Live Stats SH SOG G A FOULSCIN 5 2 1 0 11AKRON 10 5 2 2 4
  10. Yep.....f'ing AKRON!!!! GO ZIPS!!Y-E-S !!!
  11. Same here. Signal dies about the time coach is coming on with French. Would LOVE to see WRQK remain as part of the network into b-ball.
  12. It's about 8:30AM here on Saturday and BTN channel 334 STILL does not show up in my Time Warner channel listing!?!?! I rebooted the cable box but that didn't help. Any ideas out there ZN? I'm outta here at 10:15 for the day and would like to DVR the game while I'm gone. Sorry Time Warner but I can't WAIT for the day when I have another choice other than you and the satellites.
  13. A-W-E-S-O-M-E news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU AKRON!
  14. You should be OK. At times the signal gets weak (I've heard 1350 drops the wattage, at times, for some reason or another), but I've been listening out of Canton for years. Let's hope on Saturday we hear a few 'Touchdown Akron!!!!' yells from French and no dejected 'Holy Cow' how could that of happened comments. Thanks UA1987. 1350's signal is definitely weak to the southwest (intentional so it won't interfere with other signals in that direction). Glad to hear it seems to reach into the North Canton/Canton area. As you say, I hope there is something GOOD to listen to! Go Zips!
  15. Can anyone tell me whether 1350AM's signal reaches the North Canton area? My son has a cross-country meet that starts at 11AM and doesn't wrap up until 2:30 or so. Radio will be my only option until I can get home to watch the game via DVR.
  16. Scrimmage on your OWN time and dollar, NOT mine! If more practice/prep time is needed, close the doors, bring in the D-II team, do the controlled scrimmage thing again (like the Xavier game last year) and then move on with the rest of the schedule. I hope it doesn't come to this and we get the tourney games we're looking for.
  17. Akron Football ... a little like golf. Frustrating almost to the point of giving up on the game BUT enough excitement and successes to bring you back year after year. The video runs almost 4 minutes - that for a 4-8 season, about a minute per win. Looking forward to seven minutes or more next year about this time! A fresh dose of optimism courses through my veins every August ... LET'S GO ZIPS!!!!
  18. I'm in the group worried about the QB position ... 3-and-outs (or worse) suck and that puts a lot of pressure on the defense to hold serve over and over again. That becomes a big problem later in the game when the guys on the defensive side of the ball have been on the field so long. Watching our QB play and offense in general last year was excruciating at times. Here's hoping our WRs and RBs do their part to buy time so our QBs can continue to develop. Same goes for our defensive linemen ... pressure on the opposing QB and doing what they can to blow up plays and contain the running game should take some of the pressure off of the DBs. I sure hope the injuries we've seen in camp, ESPECIALLY on the defensive side of the ball, are the type that truly heal and don't linger all season long or force someone like Bain out entirely.I'm looking forward to the day we can all be truly excited and raring to go heading into the football season. Until then, we strap in, tighten everything down, hope like hell, and see where this thing goes. go zips ... er, I mean ... GO ZIPS!!!!!!!
  19. Cover the teams and I'll be interested. Don't cover the teams and I could care less. Hope you like their wire report on the Wisconsin game.BTW - I'm heading up to Wisconsin. I'll write about it. And I won't ask the ABJ for a dime.CK - Questions I hope your coverage of the Arkon/Wisconsin game will answer for me include ...1. How much of the playbook did Wisconsin hold back against Arkon ahead of their 10/4 match-up at 8PM in Wisconsin against tOSU?2. How do you think Wisconsin matches up against tOSU?3. Do you think Wisconsin rested the first and second teams long enough ahead of their upcoming game on 10/4 in Wisconsin against tOSU?4. Were you able to definitively answer "WHY does Arkon schedule these kinds of games???"5. Did any of the Wisconsin players suffer any injury that may hamper them when they go up against tOSU on 10/4 in Wisconsin?6. Do you think playing Arkon or Youngstown State is a better tune-up for the big game 10/4 between tOSU and Wisconsin in Camp Randall Stadium at 8PM?7. What was the score of the Arkon vs. Wisconsin game? I'm assuming you'll be keeping pretty close tabs on the YSU vs tOSU and may not catch the final score of the game on the field in front of you.
  20. It's listed on the BTN schedule for noon. BTN has several alternate channels that basically show their whole schedule of games. I'm sure it will be on at the Fairlawn Lizard. That's where we watched the Indiana game last year. This year I get all the BTN channels so I can watch at home. Not the same as the lizard, though.I really wish the Zips game wasn't on at the same time as the OSU game. I don't have BTN and I bet any bar I go to will be lucky to have even one tv with Akron-Wisc on it. Plus I'll have to fight the sea of red to even find a seat to attempt to watch it. I might even skip watching the game and listen to it on radio just to avoid the massive OSU crowds.Amen to that. Can't stand it when Ohio A&M fans start flocking into the establishment for a 3:30 game that follows an Akron nooner. Sitting amongst them outnumbered 9 to 1 and listening to them enjoy their stomping of YSU AND the Badgers taking it out on us (glass is half empty on this one - sorry) ... not sure I can take it. Will be a last-minute decision for me as to whether I go Cleats/Winking or just listen on the radio. Damn it ...
  21. Staphylococcus Aureus ... S-T-A-P-H  I-N-F-E-C-T-I-O-N .... nnnnoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Hopefully the surgery is successful and he makes it out the discharge door unscathed!
  22. Try the Sun Bar & Grill on Exchange Street just south of where the new U of A football stadium is being built. You can park a block or so to the west (the JAR where UA plays basketball is only a few blocks north). Let us know what you think of the place, including the parking lot. Some here in Akron (a jury) feel the business and parking lot are worth $3.1 mil (a cool $1 mil for the parking lot alone!). Let us know what you think! Then again, forget what I said above and try one of the other places mentioned in this thread. I couldn't resist.
  23. I did not KNOW that! Perfectly acceptable, I think, in this relatively slow window of the Akron sports calendar! Better get the rest of the meaningless stuff off your chest now - I think the window of opportunity is beginning to close with the start of football practice.
  24. I'll get right on this and check to see if she's a FedEx customer service rep!
  25. Dave Bronczek, President and CEO of FedEx Express ... a nicer guy you will never meet (I work for FedEx here in Akron and have met and talked to Dave a couple of times). Should have known better I'm afraid. Entering dream (on) state ... FedEx is Fortune 500 in Memphis, Goodyear is Fortune 500 here in Akron ... I wonder what it would be like to have Akron playing in the Goodyear Forum and have the support of top Goodyear brass (leadership and financial contributions) behind the athletic program ...
