Name the night. I hate that place.

ATTENTION PARENTS! Cover your kids' ears and run for the exits!

I hear what you say 88, however, most of the people I worked with, reporters that is, are conservative....personally, I'm one who is in the middle and when I lean, it is to the right side.

Butt$ in $eat$ is my guess regarding West vs. East. Three more bowl games ... right between "Who Gives a Flip" and "Whoop-Tee-Do" in my interest/excitement scale.Silver lining is teams like Akron (ASSUMING a .500 or better achievement) may get a game against a team that wouldn't give them the time of day otherwise. All of the new bowls = a LOT of mediocre po$t-$ea$on football. Sure glad the MAC basketball season gets going about then.

Not to get too political or anything but I would expect nothing less than excellence in those disciplines (well, at least journalism and broadcasting) from Berkeley East.

A Msg from Zeke Marshall's MOM...
GoZips88 replied to FromdaBurgh's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
Dear GameChngr54:I have to take issue with at LEAST one of the items mollautt listed above ..."On a road trip to Ohio University back when Dambrot coached Central Michigan, he shot and killed one of his players for snoring too loud. It was well covered up of course."Even a Can't State grad could tell you that it SHOULD have read "... , he shot and killed one of his players for snoring too loudLY. ..."US News and World Report consistently ranks Akron's "English 101" course much higher than Miami's. It's a hockey school ... what do you expect?!I can neither confirm nor deny anything else mollautt stated. I'm sure the crack staff (no relation to any of mollautt's references) at ZipsNation are hard at work on this. -
   ZW summed it up really well ... WELL worth anyone's time today to go see this guy and his team play. The Storm coach thinks he's got 4 or 5 D-1 players on the team and it wouldn't surprise me. They play hard, smart, team basketball on both ends of the court.Zeke Marshall ... as his mother calls herself on this board, a "game changer, " ESPECIALLY on the defensive end of the court. Positions himself well for blocks in close to the basket and, as ZW stated, can motor out near the perimeter when necessary to affect outside shots. Really seems to be a team player (didn't sense A-N-Y attitude/ego) who just enjoys playing the game. Zeke's step-father came over to us (there were four of us clad in "Akron" gear that I saw) after the first game, introduced himself and thanked us for showing up to watch Zeke. We also got to say hi to Zeke and his mother (Zeke's sister was enjoying a nice nap). I walked out of the building just shaking my head ... a quality package of good parents, emphasis on education first, and sky's-the-limit basketball talent. Head up to Aurora/Solon today or to the JAR in a couple of weeks (King James Classic) if you can and I think you'll agree, you'll be a fan of Zeke Marshall regardless of where he ends of playing college ball (well ... Can't State excluded of course).Good luck today Zeke! A real pleasure meeting you and your family. GO STORM!

My guess is no. Sounds like lip service. Pitt run the other style spring game, JD knew that and that's what he went with (at the time).Am I the only one that doesn't like having the spring game in doors? I wish it were outside. To be honest, I would rather have it at the Rubber Bowl.I know, it's a dump, but you can sit higher so you can see better, you get to spread out and I remember attending many sun filled spring games.Plus you can tailgate. Don't get me wrong, the in door facility is beautiful, I just don't like watching a spring game there. I seem to come home witha better feel for the players talent when the game was at the Rubber Bowl. PS On the complaint scale, this is a 2 out of 10.Yeah, I don't like watching it from a poor angle in the fieldhouse either. My guess is we'll have to endure one more indoor game and THEN we'll get to go outdoors again ... InfoCision!

Sure do ... and Akron is officially "The University of Akron." My point is that if it doesn't really matter what we call Akron, then it must not really matter what we call Ashland (or insert your favorite school) ... "The University of Ashland" and "U Ashland" both sound good to me just as "Akron University" and "Akron U" are acceptable to some.An old can of worms for sure ... I just feel it is more respectful to use the proper name.

Zips Recruit Quentin Harding
GoZips88 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
QUENTIN HARDINGMcKeesportGuard, 6-4, SeniorAn explosive scorer who has a penchant for getting to the basket but can also pull up and drill jump shots, Harding scored 15.6 points per game in always-tough Section 2-AAAA this season. Also a solid defender, Harding was often given the responsibility of guarding the opposing team's premier outside threat and, more times than not, locked him down. Division I schools such as Akron have shown interest in Harding, who has yet to decide on his college plans.A guard with some height who seems to be the kind of guy defensively KD likes. I, too, wonder where KD is getting the scholarship. Who's got the inside scoop on this one? -
No, they don't! My son graduated from Ashland U. , and still refers to it as either Ashland or Ashland U.How about "The University of Ashland" or "U Ashland?" Seems like most of us "sensitive types" are OK with "Akron" and "UA" but start butchering it with "Akron University" or worse yet, "Akron U," and it's like .

Which is better? Spanked in Big Dance or 1-1 in NIT?
GoZips88 replied to K-Roo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I agree. Although if we were going to go to the NIT and win one I sure would want it to be over a big name program like Florida State. If the question had been whether it is better to go one and out in the NCAA or make a deep run in the NIT then that would have been much more difficult to answer. I think I might rather have the team make it to Madison Square Garden in the NIT then just play 40 minutes and lose in the NCAA simply because of the added experience for the young players and more opportunities for perspective recruits to watch the Zips in action against good competition. The younger the team is the more important I think NIT wins will be, they are building blocks to the future. This year I would have preferred NCAA if even just one game because the seniors deserved to get there at least once. I wonder, though, if it might be us playing Florida in the NIT semifinals had we just been able to finish against UMass.I'm hoping UMass gets it done against Ohio A&M in New York. We gave UMass a game, had them by 10 with 8 minutes to go, had one of their big guys in foul trouble, contained the A-10 Player of the Year pretty well BUT ... as stated above ... were unable to finish (22-5 UMass run to end the game - NOT acceptable )I'd have to say NCAA over NIT with this year's senior-laden team. Going deep in the NIT would be great experience for a younger team like the one we'll have next year. Games against quality opponents would give our underclassmen a lot of good experience that would help us late in the MAC regular season, MAC tourney, and NCAA down the road. -
I L-O-V-E all of this revitalization, on campus and on the fringes! A lot of fun watching it all happen!

Is there a "big announcement" in the agenda? Oh, and congrats Zipmeister. You were the first to get me all day. And I've had co-workers trying since 4am. I actually suggested a "big announcement" weeks ago to help set up this morning's communication. Unfortunately, as far as I know there is no such announcement planned (hope I'm wrong).O-kay, Zipmeister. That put you on my Can't List! As I said in an earlier post, I'm an eternal optimist and ya had me hopin' all month ...

This day can be REALLY rough on an eternal optimist like myself ... can we just get to April 2nd already?!

As mentioned previously in this thread, Zeke and the rest of the Pittsburgh Storm will be playing in the Solon Cage Classic ( Boys / Open / Pool B ) a little less than two weeks from now. It looks like the Storm will play two games on Saturday, April 12th, at The Edge Sports Performance Academy (9550 Ravenna Road, Twinsburg, OH 44087) ...Saturday 4/12 @ 11:30AM on Edge court #2 Pittsburgh Storm vs. Kingdom EliteSaturday 4/12 @ 2:00PM on Edge court #1 Pittsburgh Storm vs. CWNY-Black -
Why celebrate "April Fool's Day" just once a year when you can be part of the MAC and enjoy it EVERY day?!?!

New practice facility for Heath and Hipsher

Can't happen soon enough. I know, I know, we only fill the JAR a little more than half-full most nights. I hate half-assed and the JAR is 100% half-assed (stupid politicians ...). -
A Msg from Zeke Marshall's MOM...
GoZips88 replied to FromdaBurgh's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
I remember seeing the look on a dejected Brian Roth's face as he sat there with friends in the Chuckery the day it was announced that the NCAA had penalized the U of A for rules violation(s) under Ruppert in the mid-80s. I appreciate that the U of A and the moderators here on ZN want to do everything by the book. I hate to see some teams win only to find out down the road that they cut corners or broke rules (knowingly?) to do it.Thanks for keeping us posted on how Zeke is doing. -
Absolutely. I could personally care less if Can't crawls under a rock and dies. Become dominant in the MAC, stay that way, and give a rat's about everyone else. Let the Can't death spiral commence ...

Was thinking the same thing ... stud stunt double!

EXACTLY why I can't get too excited this time of the year or when signings are announced. Any more, I just kinda wait to see who's on the field in August/September and who's not.
-
... something about lack of NCAA tournament appearances.

Hey now ... we can dream can't we?
