Great to see that Akron came to play tonight. Sure hope they can maintain it for two halves.
-
It sure would be nice to get a 3rd foul on Roberts before the half ends.
-
I sure wish the video feed was in time with the Akron audio feed. I'd rather listen to my Akron homers instead of the ones from Dayton. We're getting our share of blocked shots but we're also giving up a lot inside.

I know for a fact Firefox won't work in a Windows environment. I'm using IE7 successfully. Not sure what you'll be able to do with Apple if Safari 3 won't work. Good luck.

I saw Mayor Don ("The Don") with his new girlfriend at the UIC men's basketball game last Saturday night. Can anyone tell me the last time he attended a game?!? I JUST finished reading the three-page spread on Mack Rhoades in the 12/23 ABJ Sports section and noted the following quote from Mack ..."Facility. We're in the process right now of really analyzing the arena. Do we need a new arena? Do we renovate the arena? We've got the football stadium going. Our vision now in terms of what's next for our facilities is we really need to look at our basketball facility."Are talks going on right now between the U of A and Mayor Don/City of Akron? I know a downtown arena was discussed previously in another thread on the board but I can't help but wonder whether seeing Mayor Don at the JAR has anything to do with discussions that may be going on (me thinks YES).

How nice for the Dayton Flyers ........... :zzz:ZipAlumn - Are you   because you could give a rat's about what Dayton has done OR have you been snoozing through the Akron out-of-conference schedule that pales in comparison to Dayton's? I'm assuming the former but the latter is just as possible. Both?

I don't believe that video link was there when I checked the other day but I'm not complaining! VERY COOL! Thanks guys!

I never thought a fence and plywood could look so beautiful Thanks for the pics and update!

God I hate the sweaters ...BOTH ends behind the baskets should be absolutely PACKED for the Miami game. "... but the students aren't back from break yet" doesn't cut it. Facebook, phone calls, ... WHATEVER - those of you who are definitely planning to go need to drag one or two others with you. A helluva way to start the MAC season and Dambrot and the boys deserve a good turnout.I'd like to come out of the Dayton game with a win but I'd also like to come out of it healthy and with enough gas left in the tank to send Miami packing with a 'L.' GO ZIPS!

Looks like the A10 and CSTV have put together a syndicated TV package that includes FSN Ohio but the deal doesn't start until mid-January (TV deal link). I couldn't find pay-per-view on either the Dayton Flyer web site or the A10 Conference site. With Dayton's impressive win over Pitt last night and a 10-2 Akron team coming to town next week, I would like to think someone will try to pick the game up. No-go at FSN Ohio - the Hawks are in town Wednesday night to play the Cavs.

Looks like Dayton is selling upper-level tickets cheap ($3 each; click here) to put butts in seats over the holidays. Figure about $45 in gas round-trip though from Akron.

A full ride in the classroom and an opportunity to prove yourself on a football field (regardless of how crappy) should warrant at worst a simple tip of your hat ("Dwight Smith, The University of Akron") when the opportunity arises. The U of A may not have been a first, second or even tenth choice for some of these guys but it was one of the pieces that fell into place to allow some of these guys to leave school debt-free, a little more educated, and paychecks in the real world that many of us will never see in our lifetimes. Disappointing at times to see alumni seemingly turn their noses up at the U of A instead of showing some simple gratitude by mentioning the name of the school that helped them advance in Life. Oh well ...

Merry Christmas Don, the rest of the "oldies," and everyone on ZipsNation that makes it such a good place to vent, cheer, and generally share our common passion for the Zips.

Thank you very much! That was going to be my next question though, who is your Athletic Director and where does he sit at the games; so I can go ask him why we have this matchup in mens and womens basketball, but not in football.Should be a decent showing of YSU fans over there on a Friday Night.. cya!I'll give you the answer, because you have a DI-A basket ball team which you don't have in football.

1. No injuries to his 11-man rotation.2. A bunch of 1-for-1 scheduling offers from BCS-level schools.3. An invitation from Pepsi to star in an upcoming Diet Pepsi commercial that will be shown nation-wide.

"Miami though may have suffered a bigger blow when MAC leading scorer Michael Bramos went down with a sprained ankle with six minutes left in the game. Bramos returned but did not play in the RedHawks' next game, a 74-68 win over Chicago State. His status will be evaluated on a game-by-game basis."I'm sure Bramos' ankle will be fine by the time Miami comes into the JAR January 5th ... then again, maybe it won't be!

I've got at MOST 5 Rubber Bowl games left in me. Each settlement brings us that much closer to Kentucky on 9/12/2009. I don't like the use of eminent domain in this particular case and hope all parties settle out of court like these have.

Dang it! You made my heart sink when I saw the title of this post! I've been voting as often as I can and sent e-mail to all of my friends and family encouraging them to vote. Will have plenty of time this weekend to cast my vote(s) (planning to watch OU vs. Kansas tomorrow on ESPN2, listen to the Zips tomorrow night against Peay and watch the Browns at 1PM on Sunday). I'm feeling it! Go Zippy!

Zippy to Appear on WKYC-TV Friday Morning
GoZips88 replied to ZippyNeedsyourvote's topic in Akron Zips Football
The way I've heard it...the actual mascot will not be at the Capital One Bowl, but will be announced during a commercial during the game.....LAME!!!!LAME is RIGHT!?! They can't afford a friggin' airplane ticket and hotel room for a couple of days? Why wouldn't they announce the winner to the crowd and TV audience and have the winning mascot acknowledge the award from midfield or something. I'm all left-brain but even I would bring the winner into town for the game. Maybe Zippy could spend some of her winnings (knock on wood) and crash the damn game. -
Zippy to Appear on WKYC-TV Friday Morning
GoZips88 replied to ZippyNeedsyourvote's topic in Akron Zips Football
Will the folks at Capital One be flying both Zippy and Goldy Gopher to Orlando prior to the Capital One Bowl to help keep the winner a surprise or just the winner? If it's just the winner heading south, I would imagine Zippy will be able to tell us one way or the other whether she won or not. I'm sure Zippy has been sworn to secrecy but ... -
Zippy to Appear on WKYC-TV Friday Morning
GoZips88 replied to ZippyNeedsyourvote's topic in Akron Zips Football
Sounds kind of crazy but has anyone sent an e-mail to any radio stations, TV stations or newspapers in Australia? Seems to me they'd be willing to jump on a kangaroo's bandwagon for a few days. I wonder if a newspaper down-under could get permission to reprint Giffel's article from today's Beacon? Could be one of those cute, filler-type stories for them. -
From the desk of Zippy

I'll contact Shannon (of Scott and Shannon on the morning show at WQMX 94.9) via e-mail Sunday night to remind her to do multiple Zippy updates during their show Monday morning. She always replies to my e-mail and they've been big supporters of Zippy throughout the contest. They have a link to the voting page on their web page. I'll send her a quick e-mail now to remind her to mention Zippy tomorrow and Friday if they can as well.
