  1. Our four seats are in 119 (Dawg Pound) as well ... and yes, we'll probably be taking a stroll to check out the view from other seating locations (no offense Bleacher).
  2. Almost stepped out into the path of a Metro bus on Buchtel underneath the student center overhang. To this day I have no idea why I decided not to take that step - I can still feel the rush of air as the bus passed me by. My mailroom memories are the same - my slot was only ever filled with junk and the floor was always a mess of papers. Good place to duck into on a cold winter day if walking through the wind tunnel east/west from one end of campus to the other.Recreational facilities ... nope, don't recall any. What a difference Doc Proenza has made. Makes me want to take a class just to get back down there again. I wonder what the space will be used for once Memorial Hall and Carroll disappear ...
  3. I have family who lives in Indianapolis. My brother-in-law calls the space between Cleveland and Indy "The Great Corn Desert."Totally agree - the MAC needs to start winning games against bigger-conference bottom feeders and mid-level teams. Akron, in particular, needs to start putting notches in the belt. NC State was a nice start. I just hope we can hang on to home games against Indiana, Kentucky, Syracuse (just bought out of a game against Wyoming for $200,000), etc.
  4. Why not? The U of A is going to OWN Akron one of these days!
  5. The word I received on the way out of the press conference was that 9/12/2009 is realistic but assumes a VERY aggressive construction schedule. Negotiations will continue with owners of two lots on the southern perimeter but construction can begin on the vast majority of the project.Watch out for falling bricks at some point in the relatively near future elsewhere on campus unrelated to the new stadium project. Lots happening on campus and I'm jealous of what my kids are going to get to experience and enjoy in a few years.Nice to see Keith Dambrot and Gerry Faust in attendance. Nice crowd on hand.Mack mentioned that in addition to the 10,000 existing on-campus parking spots, there are an additional 7,000 spots a short shuttle ride away. The U of A also owns a couple of lots near the new stadium that could be turned into parking lots accommodating another 2,500 cars between the two of them.It was nice to see Mayor Don there ... oh, wait a minute, he had an important engagement in Cleveland and couldn't make it. He was hoping to send someone in his place ... but apparently that didn't work out either. Great things are happening in your city Mayor Don - ya outta think about putting your differences aside and being part of it.Exciting stuff that we are all going to be very proud of in a couple of years. Go Zips!!!
  6. I just called the U of A athletic department and was told that the press conference in the ballroom of the Student Union would begin no earlier than 11:30AM and could begin a bit later than that if the board meeting runs long. The press conference is open to the public and those planning to attend should park in the parking deck closest to route 8 (due east of the JAR). For those of you who can't attend in person, click HERE to go to the U of A Live Event Webcast of the press conference. I don't believe the webcast is password protected but I don't know for sure. The Board of Trustees meeting is also available LIVE ON THE WEB.
  7. I called the ticket office this afternoon and was told that it will be held in the ballroom of the Student Union at noon. The guy I talked to even put me on hold so he could make sure that what he was telling me was correct.Local paper ...
  8. I keep smelling Penguin poop on this board!
  9. I wonder what the vintage "fixtures" would bring if Mack and Dr. Proenza decided to hold an auction to raise money for the new stadium? They could bundle a 6"x6" section of 20-layer painted wall and a similar-size section of floor (both THOROUGHLY sanitized I hope) with each trough and commode. Other items of interest might include: rusty chain-link fence, jagged chunks of fiberglass seating, bag-o-crumbling concrete, turf complete with game-day "residue", burned-out scoreboard light bulbs, vacuum-sealed "insulation" (asbestos), "WHAT a rat hole!" graffiti from the visitor's (and home team's) locker rooms ... ah yes, skip-zip, the memories ...
  10. Was thinking the same thing. Would make a cool bathroom remodel! Not sure my wife and daughter would agree.DEFINITELY won't miss the open stalls. We HAVE to find a use/home for one of the light posts from the Rubber Bowl. Grab the troughs and a light post and dump dirt on everything else.
  11. I was thinking the SAME thing! WHAT an insult!
  12. Thank you Zip Watcher. I was going to post something suggesting those two be removed. Walk a mile in the shoes of someone born with Down syndrome and I'd bet the house that the ridicule ("retards?!?") would stop pretty quickly.
  13. My rear end only has about 8 more Rubber Bowl visits in it! There had better be dirt and debris flying soon so 2009 becomes a reality!
  14. I dislike AT&T (former telephone monopoly) as much as I do Time Warner (current cable monopoly) and can't wait to play one against the other to see how much blood I can draw. Will be interested to see if Time Warner simply adds ESPNU to their digital tier like they did ESPN (559) and ESPN2 (560) at no extra cost or whether they add it to a sports package that is an additional cost beyond digital. Bottom line - all of us have a better chance of seeing more of our Zips without necessarily having to drive to the local pub to do so. I'm also watching to see how Time Warner and AT&T handle the Big Ten Network (two more opportunities to see the Zips this fall). Thanks for creating the thread - glad to see more competition is on the horizon. Amazing how much less expensive Time Warner service is in Doylestown and Wadsworth due to local competition there.
  15. Wow - the kid's made TWO bad decisions now!
  16. The prediction line at the bottom of the Akron preview ... Whoops!Jury is still totally out on the 2007 season on this end. Not sure what to make of things. Will take it one week at a time and see how things go. I do EXPECT a total annihilation of Can't after what happened last year at Can't. Will be totally pissed if we come out with anything less than our best effort and result up to that point in the season. Can't needs to be put back in their place. The basketball team took care of business and the time is approaching for the football team to do the same. Go Zips!
  17. Would agree - looks great. The all-blue seats sure look better than the multi-color ones in Savage right now. I hope they ditch the ugly tan/brown crap on the walls when they re-do everything.I was driving through Firestone Park the other day and noticed LOTS of signs in yards by companies who are repairing roof/siding damage from the recent hail storm. ANY chance an adjuster would look at the JAR, declare it a piece of crap, and sign over a check to have it completely redone?!?
  18. Another disappointment is the December 21st home game against Youngstown. Far cry from Nevada that we had in here around the same time last year.(really only posted this just to piss eguins off a little bit )
  19. If we model our stadium after a I-AA facility, will YSU play us here without requiring a return game at YSU's Half-A-Stadium?
  20. Renovate the M.A.C. Center ??? Way to think big Can't!
  21. That was always my impression too.
  22. UA Coach Takes Job at Can't StateI don't care what sport it is, I H-A-T-E being a stepping stone! Yes, I realize that's life at a mid-major but I don't have to like it!
  23. I'll take WHLO. 1350's signal just plain sucks. I have NO problem getting 640AM way out here in Norton.
  24. Nice! A fine thread chock full of good news. Anyone else?
  25. Binghamton, NC Central, NC A&T, ... Miami and Ohio's schedules look SOOOOO much better.
