Has Mack been thinking on an even larger scale for both the stadium (a year longer to announce) and the JAR/offices (< insert cricket sounds >), are they still getting their arms around the state of U of A athletics and trying to figure out what to do, or did we take 5 steps backwards by choosing the wrong AD? Maybe it's just me or that we're just not hearing a whole lot of of the AD's office but it just doesn't seem to me that our leadership is as strong as it was when Mike Thomas was here.

A release has been posted on gozips.com ...Post-season rally

"My sources tell me" that since it is Labor Day Weekend and there is an air show at Burke Airport, the FAA will NOT allow an event at Cleveland Browns Stadium while the air show is going on. Looks like the Army/Akron game won't start until 6PM or after since the air show usually doesn't wrap up until 5PM or so. There is also the possibility of national TV exposure and that may factor (if it becomes reality) into determining when the start time will be.

ROGER THAT! I was thinking the same thing.Love how close seating is to the field and I, too, like the look and feel of a stadium that is closed on at least one end (for now).
-
Whoops! Thank you RowdyZip. I forgot to check seating capacity before I ripped on them. My apologies to the board and to Drexel.

I was going to say something about Title IX but .... my wife was looking over my shoulder.

I wonder who has control of determining game time for the Army/Akron game September 1st at Cleveland Browns Stadium? The Cleveland Indians are playing the Chicago White Sox that evening at 7PM at Jacobs Field. If they schedule the football game to start sometime between noon and 3PM ...* The Patriot Bowl MAY sell a few more tickets to those planning to head to the Tribe game that evening. * The City of Cleveland and its businesses make money all day long from those who plan to spend the entire day in the city (taxes, parking, lunch, dinner).* The Indians sell a few more tickets (our family of four included; ) to those who attend the football game and decide to stick around for some baseball that evening (FYI - fleece blanket to everyone in attendance at the Indians game that night). If they schedule the football game so that it overlaps the baseball game ...* Ya Pays Yer Money, Ya Takes Yer Choice. Chance of any synergy developing between the two events goes down the toilet. Just a little day-dreaming and planning as we settle in after basketball season and wait for football season ...

Zipsnation Rally: Get Akron on the cover of Athlon

Where's that image of Zippy flipping the bird? Time to add 'Athlon Sports' to the list! -
For whatever it's worth, here are attendance figures for the first two rounds of the NIT. * NICE (not) showing by some of the B©S schools (Georgia, Michigan, Clemson-twice, Flori-duh State).* Syracuse is just crazy for their basketball team with awesome turnouts both games. NIT record crowd for the second-round game.* Drexel (Philadelphia, PA; 11,000 students) averaged 2133 fans for 12 home games. Some nice wins on the road during the regular season, sorry we had to leave you out of the Big Dance, and thanks for making $1.98 for the NCAA in your NIT home game.* I'd like to think Akron would have had a decent showing somewhere in the 4000-5000 range (middle of the pack), MAYBE a sellout at 5500? We traveled well to Detroit twice for football and seemed to draw well for the Can't and Miami games at The Q in the MAC tournament this year. We're a pretty hungry fan base with so little post-season play over the years.* NIT Round 1 ATTENDANCEFresno State 78 @ GEORGIA 88 2,031NC STATE 63 @ Drexel 56 2,499Austin Peay 51 @ AIR FORCE 75 2,718 Utah State 58 @ MICHIGAN 68 3,114East Tenn State 57 @ CLEMSON 64 3,150Toledo 61 @ FLORIDA STATE 77 3,295Hofstra 71 @ DEPAUL 83 4,056Alabama 87 @ UMASS 89 (OT) 4,207SAN DIEGO ST 74 @ Missouri State 70 4,234Appl State 59 @ MISSISSIPPI 73 4,696Mississippi Val St. 63 @ MISSISSIPPI ST. 82 5,501Delaware State 50 @ WEST VIRGINIA 74 6,458MARIST 67 @ Oklahoma State 64 7,507Providence 78 @ BRADLEY 90 (OT) 8,304Vermont 57 @ KANSAS STATE 59 8,596South Alabama 73 @ SYRACUSE 79 16,832NIT Round 2Mississippi 68 @ CLEMSON 89 3,650Georgia 52 @ AIR FORCE 83 5,698Bradley 72 @ MISSISSIPPI ST. 101 5,733Michigan 66 @ FLORIDA STATE 87 6,033Massachusetts 77 @ WEST VIRGINIA 90 7,146Marist 62 @ NC STATE 69 8,400DEPAUL 70 @ Kansas State 65 13,340San Diego State 64 @ SYRACUSE 80 26,752 (NIT record)

Yep, almost posted the same thing yesterday. NIT isn't what we wanted but I think we would have done OK putting butts in seats at the JAR. I wonder if any of the bigger schools the committee has in mind would decline if they were < better sit down for this one> asked to play on the road?! "We play at home in front of an apathetic crowd or we don't go!" mentality. Wouldn't surprise me ...

Yes ... and I also felt their pain when I listened to them blow a 9-point lead with about 2:30 to go ... been there, done that before too!

i know .. :wall:i KNOW .. :wall:I K-N-O-W !!!

According to a reporter WKNR has at the games in Lexington, Stanford didn't even send their band or cheerleaders. All that money out there in Palo Alto and they can't send the cheerleaders?!?
-
Oregon was 15 out of 17 from the line for the game - 88%. why, WHY?!?
-
Wow. Nice game Miami. Held every team this year, including a high-powered Oregon, to under 70 points. Oregon 58-56 over Miami.

Even Pro Athletes noticed our snubbing
GoZips88 replied to blueandgold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Bernie Kosar was on WTAM with Bill Wills and Mike Snyder this morning and pretty much said the same thing ... "How did Akron make it all of the way to the MAC finals, lose the game by one on questionable timekeeping and a miracle shot, and NOT get a bid to at least the NIT?" (or something to that effect) You could definitely hear "I feel for Akron" in his voice. He was probably tuned in to Akron a bit more than he would have been otherwise thanks to his relationship/work with Charlie. -
That's fine with me. My point is don't seed them higher than they deserve if they are down and someone else is more deserving.
-
I like Coach K as well and respect what they have done in the PAST. What rubs me the wrong way is team selection and seeding should be based on what has been done THIS year, not what you've done in prior years. If your team is down, sucks to be you. You get a lower seeding or possibly don't even get to dance that year. I can't believe how much that NIT snub stings ...
-
SEE ya, Duke! 6-seed??? Yeah, right. About as right as one of the other crap decisions the NCAA made on Sunday - leaving Akron out of the NIT. Fun to hear the crowd on the neutral floor rooting for VCU. Don't ya just HATE it, Duke, when you have to play OOC away from home?!?
-
I've had enough of "those people" look down their nose at me over the last 20 years when I tell them I'm from Akron ("< g-a-s-p > You went to AKRON?!?") that I'm JUST a bit jaded by now ... no freakin' way - GO DUCKS! Send the sweater-wearin'-wine-and-cheese-eatin'-BMW-drivin'-my-poop-doesn't-stink-but-YOURS-sure-does-hoity-toity-Ivy-League-wannabe snobs back home! :puke:Oh yeah, and send a few more sweaters to Cleveland next time - your crowd sucked!
-
I'll take one too. They can't tell me to take it off because I don't think Zippy has a middle finger! I'll tell them Zippy is mad as hell and is letting everyone know that we're #1!
-
Yeah, looks like we caved to Indiana. It's probably a better deal for them financially since we'll probably be able to guarantee a bit more money in 2009 when they are playing us at our new stadium and we have more butts in seats if for no other reason than the novelty of the new stadium. Hopefully we're better than Army this year on the neutral field in Cleveland. I'm going to count that one as a home game. Hopefully those from NE Ohio who are intrigued enough to attend and who aren't regular Akron fans will cheer for US.Here's a link to the MAC release ...2007 MAC Football Schedule

Why doesn't it surprise me that there are free copies of the NY Times on a college campus ...
