Something like this would probably also make EJ Thomas PAH redundant and available for redevelopment. I was very surprised to hear not too long ago that various options are being considered for EJ due to declining attendance/cashflow for its shows, including removing it. Even though it was much acclaimed when built in the 70's, it's now going on 40 years old. I believe some new auditoriums have been built on campus for dance/theater/etc. that could handle a bit smaller audiences. That corner of Buchtel and Wolf Ledges would be very convenient for additional PolySci or Law or student housing space.

There are 126 football teams in what used to be called Division I, including Akron. No, Division I has always included both tiers...everyone that's not Div. II or Div. III. And it's still Div. I.

Nothing surprising there but the optimist in me says we still have more upside potential than about 100 of the teams above us currently.

Tailgating must end rule? Sez who? Even Uncle Tommy stopped by and declined a free beer at the tailgating party I was at between games. I believe we were located in parking lot #12 on campus. The party lasted right up to 15 minutes before game time. Actually it's 2 hours after a game, which was about the interval before the soccer game http://www.gozips.com/gameday/fb/tailgating Are people tailgating before standalone soccer games - I'm not even sure.

Game time tonight at 7:30, carried on mac-sports.com and 1350am. Would be a great tailgating double header opportunity on campus today but I think there's a rule that tailgating must end shortly after the football game(?)

I showed you where the moderators have made it clear that vulgarity is not acceptable, so obviously they do care. Most of us would like for Zips in the making to be able to visit without being exposed to crudeness, name-calling, and the message that alcohol is vital for the enjoyment of every event. The Trustees decided what they thought was best (for the current season only)...if you disagree, that's fine but show a little maturity.

Here's an idea: have your 10 beers before the game, enjoy a nice cold, fizzy, tasty soda during the game, and then have another 10 beers after the game. It's hard to tell exactly at what point redneck turns into alcoholic but if you still feel you need those few extra beers during the game then yes, you should probably report to AA.

Those who shell out for expensive seats get a perk, I don't have a problem with that. And they're not brushing up against, yelling in the ears of, and spilling beer on, other people that don't want to be around the alcohol. If you can't enjoy the game without booze you might have a drinking problem.

Maybe now would be a good time to acquire a struggling auto dealership along Market St., either east or west of Main St. Were any of them shut down by Chrysler/GM?

What's on the agenda for this meeting?

Plus the 22 Exchange student apts.; also we will be heavily involved in the BioInnovation Inst. in the downtown/Market medical corridor. Why would we not want to expand and spruce up wherever we can? Should we stay away from cruddy Spicertown rather than go in and renovate? I like the idea of keeping the athletic facilities together but I also don't think they would put anything further into the core of the (academic) campus re: Memorial Hall site.

This will be a real interesting discussion to have in a few months once we've seen the first season at Info and the next recruiting class. And have our first nat'l champ. in soccer I would have no problem scheduling some 1-1's with C-USA to "try it on for size". I agree that U. Cinc. is the model for us to follow...we're a lot like them in many ways. If/when tOSU has their next significant downcycle (think Michigan) they will permanently lose a lot of SW Ohio fanbase to UC and I'd like to think the same could eventually happen in Akron.

The bar owners must be beside themselves seeing that huge AA crowd...But yeah, good for Akron. Campus is now a great place for all kinds of events: RoadRunner marathon route & show, BE/MAC track, college wrestling champ's, area HS academic competitions, HS football, band shows(?), community/political town hall meetings, King James camp, research conferences, First Night Akron, Soap Box Derby socials, etc. I think we're already seeing the dividends of the campus upgrades.

I'd say wait a few months and if the football season doesn't work out, 'promote' JD to AD. Then he could hire his successor. I actually think he would be a good AD with his mad business skills.

Yes they are. A couple of years ago they knocked off one of the top-ranked teams in the nation in the first round of the NCAA tourney ... on the road ... in cold weather, out of their element.

Whoever the coach is in 2010 will have a great stadium to work with and the program will move up. That's how I'm thinking about it. It would be a tough break for JD to get one year in the new stadium and then be out but that's the way it goes. On the other hand, if he survives and the stadium helps with recruiting the way I think it will, he could be very successful here for a long time to come.
