+1. This season will be the real test regarding his abilities. With the loss of a large number of seniors last season, the team is beyond Porter's direct influence. The season is going to be long and tough. If the team gels and certain players step up, we have an average or slightly below average (for us) in a rebuilding year. Otherwise, Embick may be looking for a new job. I hope that is not the case!

I disagree. NEO Med is a logistic disaster for the state and region. There is a reason the Medical College of Ohio became affiliated with UT...and guess what pedigree our new President has.

What would be so bad about a medical school at UA? Medical education is in a state of flux right now because the system of memorization is ~100 years old and is no longer adequate. UA's curriculum could be innovative and modern, and research associated with a medical school would spur new technology that produces jobs. Also, a city the size of Akron with the quality hospitals Akron has should feature a medical school. One thing that immediately stood out to me about Dr. Scarborough's background is that it would enable him to pursue a medical school for UA.

Everyone is AT the (sell-out) game and not on ZNO. We lack some intensity, but missing three regulars from the lineup really hurts. Most seasons I'm counting wins and thinking we should lose no more than 4-6 games in a given season. This year, KD really is correct...all that matters is what happens in Cleveland. We can be the best team in the MAC come tournament time...we just don't happen to be right now. I'm encouraged that one or two different guys who aren't normally in the lineup are contributing big nearly every game. The game time and confidence could prove very valuable in the tournament.

We showed some good effort and focus in coming back; however, we never win in Buffalo, and they shot lights out. I was impressed with some of our bench guys who really came to play. Solid efforts by Forsythe, Cheatum, and Evans. Overall, an entertaining game. On to Ohio!

I hope the decision to take him back or not is made independent of the PG situation. Off-the-court mistakes should require off-the-court amends.

At the library the other day I picked up "Heisman: The Man Behind the Trophy" by John M. Heisman and Mark M. Schlabach. There is a full chapter devoted to his time at Buchtel College including a picture copywritten by UA. It verifies that the center snapping the ball to the quarterback was invented in Akron due to Buchtel's quarterback being tall and prone to fumbling when he picked it up off the ground. Also, the Buchtel victory over OSU is described in glorious detail. Heisman's reason for leaving Ohio was due to heartbreak when his sweetheart (a Buchtel student) received a terminal diagnosis. However, he left Buchtel College because the faculty bemoaned his relatively high salary and believed sports were becoming a distraction from academics. I recommend this book to all UA football and baseball fans. It amazes me how Heisman is such an under-celebrated part of UA football history. With the building of Infocision, the Heisman Lodge is no longer relevant though I believe UA still owns it. A tribute to Heisman and his part of UA football history needs to be celebrated somewhere on campus.

The UT stream looks so good because it is an ESPN3 broadcast. UT and Can't look fairly evenly matched. The MACC is wide open this year.

I completely agree. I don't smell the smoke either. That amount of money is well spent elsewhere. The money some highly paid coordinators make could support 10 full time professors. This is the sad state of affairs that is the marrying of collegiate academics and athletics. At the pro level, millions are spent renovating new stadiums (a la FirstEnergy Stadium) while the public schools rot. Disgusting! I would applaud UA and the rest of the mid-level universities for dismissing themselves from this madness. The University of Chicago chose academics over athletics. Good win on the road with timely three-point shooting. Overall a mediocre effort and terrible FT shooting. This team has a long way to go before winning the MACC or an NCAAT game.

The choppiness of this feed makes it nearly unwatchable! Slow start for us offensively. I like our chances though...solid defense against a mediocre MAC team will go a long way towards a win.

Great win for the Zips! I had this game down as a loss before the season even started. Let's hope it is an initiating event in what will become a run to another MAC East title. What frustrates me (and I think a lot of other ZNO'ers) is that in general, KD's teams only play with consistent heart and to their potential in the MAC seasons. Though their have been flashes of strength in the OOC and post-seasons...the first half against Gonzaga, in spurts against ND, Mississippi State, Temple, Florida State...am I missing any?

Not a chance! So long as I have to listen to friends, family, and the media drivel on about OSU's unsubstantiated greatness, I will continue to point out how and why they are over-rated. Many of these friends and family are UA alums with no connection to OSU, which compounds my frustration. I have said time and again on this forum that I can tolerate the lunatic OSU alums; the casual OSU fans with no connection to the university and especially UA alums are the ones that drive me insane. OSU should be better than us. They are the flagship university of Ohio, so they have all the resources and tradition. This explains the little sibling complex you mention. We are both D-1A/FBS and often have cross-conference games, so I will continue to give their programs a reality check. With the results of these past two games, my criticism of OSU has proven to be fairly objective. I think they are a top 15-20 team, but playing for the NC because they won 24 straight games with soft OOC and B10 schedules...ridiculous!

I think it depends on the play calling. In the B10 I would say not because the TE is more of a glorified lineman who occasionally catches the ball. If I am a TE, I want to go to the PAC10 or SEC to show off my receiving AND downfield blocking skills.

Yes, I agree that it is sad that this has to be mentioned. I feel that overall, we have been pretty objective regarding KD's performance along with his strengths and weaknesses. Find the thread last year when we were praising him for some second half adjustments that allowed us to come from behind and win a game. Does anyone else remember which game that was? I want to say it was the home game against the Canadians.

I agree with a lot of what you've said, and I am frustrated too. However, I wouldn't hang the 0-26 versus ranked opponents around KD's neck. This is an all-time record, and only a few have occurred during KD's tenure. Nonetheless, there have definitely been a fair number of opportunities to take it to the next level with some marquee wins but most have been missed.

Some good bowl games involving MAC teams today: Pitt vs. BUGS and Utah State vs. NIU. The lazy day after Christmas is a great date for the MAC's two best teams to be featured.

So your solution is to perpetuate the status quo and let our alumni flock elsewhere? Why can't you still follow the team you grew up with but primarily follow the Zips or at least be a fan of both? Yes, you may be a fan of both, but most people aren't. Hence, the MBB attendance issues. How does the MAC escape the perpetuation of this viscious cycle? Though I disagree, GP1 has proposed the only real solution. Yes, we compete with OSU. Objectively, NIU is not worthy of being in the top 5. They won one game against an average Iowa team, destroyed a bad Purdue team, and ran the table in the MAC. Sure, Toledo and Ball State are good wins too, but not worthy of consideration for the top spots. Like OSU, their schedule is weak relative to the SEC and Pac 10. Until there is a true 16 team playoff system, all we can do is subjectively project the best X number of teams, and this year, NIU is not among them IMO. However, I want NIU to win because they are in the MAC and if NIU can do it, Akron can too. The result of the MACC and their bowl game will be very telling.
