  1. The MAC will never have a team that competes for a national championship.Replacing them with Temple was a bad thing. I would argue that even NIU is a misfit for the league at this point.I think adding Temple would have been a good thing provided they joined as a full member.Similarly, I like having NIU especially if it means having parity and adding Southern Illinois as a full member in the coming years (with them advancing their football program to I-A).I don't even know what conference Gonzaga is in or what other schools are members. They have made it to the national level in spite of their conference and so can UA. We already have in soccer and the pieces are in place for other programs to begin doing so as well.
  2. Other than UA, I have also attended two "Top 50" engineering schools including a Top 10. I will just say that one school was worthy and the other was by far not. UA compares very favorably with both. The rankings are based primarily on research production via expenditures and grad student enrollment and selectivity. The undergraduate rankings are minor modifications of those from the grad and based solely on reputation (which is guided by the grad rankings).I personally like having a chip on my shoulder and outperforming students from bigger schools when they think my education was inferior because it has an unfamiliar brand on it. If they only knew my unique perspective, they'd likely be questioning why they sacrificed so much ($$$, etc.) for their name brand school. That brand will only get your foot in the door somewhere...the rest is up to the individual in proving himself/herself. That latter is where UA alumni have an unexpected advantage.
  3. Blog space sin: You didn't post a link.Last week the projected winner of the MAC (UB) was setup with Florida State. I think that would be a great match up for us. Anyone else have a desired matchup for the NCAA Tourney provided we get there?
  4. 72 Roo, how do you know this. Please provide more detail.
  5. End of discussion.winning is fun, although if you're in a bad conference and you are winning, it's always in the back of your mind... but we aren't even dominating (yet ) so the whole discussion is moot.Let's start kicking some arse, and then let's b1tch about the conferenceI concur 100%. The only program that has the right to complain is men's soccer...and the conference isn't really holding them back...the stigma of being Akron without a long-standing tradition of being National Championship contenders is the limiting factor. With the exception of football, the conference will never hold us back so long as we perform well in our out-of-conference schedule against respected programs.
  6. Wish I could have seen Conyers' dunk!
  7. Not yet. It is delayed, so we'll see.
  8. I like this match up. As KD says, we aren't getting into the NCAA without winning the league. So, it is nice to have a road game in which we are favored to potentially contribute to a 20 win season. RPI is meaningless at this point and Valpo is a recognizable program. Go Zips!
  9. I love Frenchy!
  10. I hear something... Thanks, Sarge!Odd...it only works for me via Internet Explorer and not Firefox. (I loathe IE.)Great to hear the Zips up 17-14 at half though. What a score. Is this football?
  11. 2-1 with 15:31 left in the first half. This could end with a baseball score.
  12. Anyone know if the internet 1350 connection is working? In Pittsburgh and wanting to listen. Gametracker just isn't the same.
  13. If we run the 3-3-5 again and are a sieve on defense and lose several close games, I will be ready to crucify JD regardless of a few offensive turnovers. Will be patient and supportive until then though. The scheme should fit the talent, not the other way around. Any real coach knows that.
  14. Everything is moving in the right direction...http://www.collegesoccernews.com/index_files/Page8011.htmhttp://www.collegesoccernews.com/index_files/Page7825.htm
  15. ...and yet Bush wasn't taken? Surprising.
  16. And I am sure it was uphill to and from the game as well.
  17. I am absolutely appalled. What prestige and dignity do these awards and the tournament have if they are so biased?
  18. Hope he wins the Herman Trophy on Friday!Good luck to you, Steve. Do UA proud!
  19. Utah played a lights out game. I was loving it. I agree, Utah beat a top 5 team worse than Florida did and Florida is in the NC game. And Utah is undefeated. Florida has a loss.Agree with BigZip and johnnyzip that the Big East is not worthy of an automatic BCS game. Their basketball prowess is carrying the conference.
  20. I gave up a few years ago. I could care less if people call it "Akron U." Hell...Dambrot does it every so often in post game interviews. Life is too short to get all riled up over "Akron U" vs. "The University of Akron." Your precious time on this earth should be spent hating K.e.n.t. State, and occasionally, Ohio State. And the 3-3-5..................and Peter King, the NCAA, Bubba Walther...........and Northwestern and NIT selection committees.
  21. It's unbelievable how sick I get of seeing professional publications use "Akron University"! You never hear/see "Cincinnatti University" or "Toledo University"!From the local old timers, okay, I get it...No excuse for professional publications though.
  22. really? Interesting. What is it that you would say makes UA's dept. better?(I always thought those rankings were BS anyways)UA actually cares about its students. Pitt does not care about its students, but rather research dollars and posturing in the rankings. What a joke. As UA increases its research profile, I hope it maintains the student emphasis. I would be ashamed if it ever became like Pitt.
