For those of you planning on coming to Pittsburgh, please PM or reply here as I live in Pittsburgh (and attend Pitt for graduate school) and would love to meet some members of the Nation in person. I also wouldn't mind seeing Zeke in action and having something to do on Friday night. Cheers!...and of course

I thought expansion of the Exchange Street deck was supposed to be complete by the time the stadium opens?

2008 Soccer Schedule Announced
UAZipster0305 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I like having OSU, Michigan, and Penn State on the schedule every year though. IU and Notre Dame are perenial top 25 programs and Oakland is also usually very strong. The addition of Cincinnattii and WVU are also very nice. Great to see the team playing in two of the biggest national tournaments to start the year and hosting another. I wonder why Westfield dropped/discontinued sponsorship of our annual tournament?I'm not worried about the MAC games being home versus away. As the best program in the MAC by far, the team should go undefeated every year in the regular season.I'd like to see the team play Louisville....if only the woman's program could be built up to be this strong... -
Indiana.

All we did was take Kentucky off the 2009 schedule and it is Kentucky that will play MTSU.

Any legitamcy to the comments about a new on-campus arena?
-
When I first started reading this I almost believed it not realizing it's April 1st. However, I would like to see the MAC add Temple and another school (preferably Southern Illinois) as full conference members.Any one have legitimate insight as to what the REAL big announcement from the league office is supposed to be?
-
No kidding .. who cares if the conference blows goats .. better for the Zips to dominate and keep the bid to themselves. I don't really believe Can't State will fall fast, but it wouldn't break my heart if they never won another game.Do people really think that Gonzaga is up nights worrying about why the league they're in only has 1 or 2 good teams (this year being different, I know)? No .. they own the WCC bid and that's the way they like it.The Zips are working on their business .. the rest of the league is irrelevant.Go Zips!Amen. I'll trade in the rivalry with Can't for regularly winning the conference and getting an NCAA bid. The reason: no one outside the Akron-Can't region cares...the game barely gets any media coverage from Cleveland. It has never been broadcast nationally, which is what the NCAA bid is all about...NATIONAL EXPOSURE. And besides, who wouldn't want to stomp Can't with every opportunity we have?

Christian takes TCU job:http://www.ohio.com/news/break_news/17126776.htmlhttp://www.ohio.com/news/break_news/17127696.htmlLet's hope this is the beginning of the end of Can't's success!

I do. But I won't say why here.I will just say that off-the-court discipline is a bit lacking in some of the players on the WBB team. I fear that something has caught up with them that may have happened over spring break. This is the most I've cared about women's basketball all year. Details, please!Yeah, seriously. Please share...even if doing so via private message is necessary.

In my opinion, the campus won't be complete until UA acquires and incorporates NEOUCOMP including academic and research buildings in the biomedical corridor.

Three guesses:1) LBJ Court at Nike Arena 2) Nike/LBJ helps Akron upgrade the schedule with an Akron Tournament or something like the old Acme Zip Game in football..3) New Uni's and shoes....I'm hoping for #1. With the new dorms being put in downtown, it wouldn't completely surprise me.

I think the live chat is a great feature worth keeping. It's a lot of fun to discuss the game in real-time with Zips fans all over the country. I think the true potential of this feature will be realized once more people download the software (JAVA?). A game thread was utilized and popular for all basketball games even when live chat was available.

If there was ever a game that this would be a problem, it was the last one...a long road trip on short notice right after coming off three emotional games in three days. I think the team will be well-rested and prepared come Saturday. I expect another great effort and game.

I am also not a UA alum, but my mother, brother, uncle, wife, etc. all went there. And I grew up downtown. Huge Zips fan. This is an interesting side topic. I've often wondered myself how many on the board are UA grads. It would be cool if the moderators could allow this kind of information to be entered into our Nation profiles. I also wish more people would include current location in their profiles.
-
Are you also a UA alum?...I assumed most people on this board are...I find it hard to believe that some of our biggest and best fans are only casual related to the university. What professional field are you in?

I was thinking about that, using coach Rowdies to help coach James making Zeke a zip. However, i am rethinking it since Mrs Zeke's mom said that he doesn't like too much attention. On a side note, if my name was Zeke, i would love to become a zip. "Zeke the Zip" it is like as if it was meant to be. It definitely sounds so much better than Zeke the pirate or Zeke the hoakie, ewww that last one is ugly....or Zeke the Panther!

As a current graduate student at Pitt and a former undergraduate and graduate student at UA, I can objectively say my experiences at UA were far superior. UA's campus and facilities are much nicer and I found the faculty to be better teachers who are more concerned with the students. Pitt's only advantage is that it performs more research (which shouldn't matter to an undergraduate varsity athlete).

The fact that you cite one specific play in the game is evidence that you don't see the entire picture. Can't simply has more talent than we do THIS YEAR, which is why we lost. True we didn't make our bunnies and FT's, but Can't beat us three times this year, which is enough proof for me.However, the program is in fine shape and is advancing. Can't will eventually experience a down turn due to instability. The law of averages guarantees that.

I'll assume you're speaking with too much emotion after a disappointing game. You're obviously a youngster because you don't seem to appreciate where this program was even just five years ago. There is nothing wrong with the guys KD recruits. They play hard, don't get into trouble, and graduate...and we've made it to the MACC two years in a row. Can't's team is based on winning now because they use JUCO's. With their coach leaving and a few players graduating (losing eligibility is more like it), Can't's program could be in the in a year or two. Our program on the other hand has long-term stability with KD and will continue to grow. Also, take a look at some of the mid-major programs that actually win games in the NCAA tournament...they have a strong team concept and nucleus of upperclassman starters. That's what our program is being built for. I'd really be disappointed if KD utilized Can't's program structure and won the MACC every couple years just to get flamed out of the NCAA tournament in the first round everytime.Yes, I thought this could be the year, but I think the program will continue to improve. Our MACC's and NCAA tournament wins are in the cards, but not for this year.I thought about starting a new thread thanking the seniors for being the foundation of a strong program, but let's not forget, our season is likely not over! We still have postseason play and that's something this program has only participated in a handful of times. We are moving in the right direction!
