  1. It may have been discussed already, but has anyone noticed that on either side of the 50 yard line they don't alternate the color of the grass? That doesn't look right.
  2. Pouring cement by the scoreboard. They're using a pumper truck to reach the area.
  3. How does this invalidate the agreement? Keeping rooms available for longer than two years invalidates nothing. Crossing Exchange St. is not pedestrian friendly and is equally outside the campus footprint as CBA, Polsky, and a possible new arena. The footprint of campus is evolving and will continue to do so no matter how forcefully anyone protests. Lighten up, we have you on record as being opposed to a downtown arena. BTW, the mayor is on record as saying there wasn't room for the stadium downtown. I do seem to remember him being upset that it wasn't closer. I disagree with him when he says Akron turned money back for the JAR project. I was on campus at that time and they had to scale back the project for lack of funds. It was supposed to seat some 9500 when it was first proposed.
  4. Welcome to the ZN family! And good question. Could they be platforms to stand on as workers install the ribbon scoreboard? What about that little "window" on the soutwest corner of the pressbox side where they have yet to attach the rest of the bleachers? Anybody know what that is? It surely cant be a window as the bleachers will be put overtop of it?Is a ribbon scoreboard going on both upper decks? Or just the east? West? Just the east.
  5. students get the southern 3 sections of each side of the stadium along with the grass endzone hill. I think that's more than sufficient... I was told at the open house that the students were in the end zone and the east stands.
  6. Smart and athletic aren't mutually exclusive. No, we shouldn't drop the student from Student athlete, but we should also be D-3 if these are the types of guys we are excited at signing. Can you imagine a BCS conference school being excited over this? I want to play in bowl games ever year, not win the GPA cup. If that happens along with it great. What is it about this recruit that makes him so unworthy in your eyes? Is it that he's 6'1", weighs 227 pounds or that he's from Sandusky??? Do you have other stats? Maybe a 10.8 forty, benches 95 lbs??
  7. I can't be too thrilled about a kid with those 2 offers. Unless we are having an academic challenge team we need to recruit higher level athletes.I guess we should drop the student in student athlete. We've had athletes that were smart and able to contribute within the team concept. I remember a great play by one such football player that saved a big win for the Zips at BG at the goal line. I'm not suggesting this was his only contribution but may have been his biggest. Awesome play! He wasn't the most gifted athlete but stepped up and contributed. Anyone know who this was???? Smart and athletic aren't mutually exclusive.Mark Groza is the answer. Game saving tackle at BG and 3.92 in the classroom and a class act, too!Give that man a cigar or a cold beverage of his choice!!

  9. WHAT!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! this entire stadium is now a failure. on a serious note.thanks for all the support but before you go showering me with to much love you should know that I have an MOS that will probably never even see a deployment but I am still proud to have my little piece in the pieOn the other hand, we really don't want details regarding the size of your piece. made my daykinda walked into that onemust have hurt.My take on this subject is that the k ent fans were anti-war not anti-American and that's why they booed. I seriously doubt they booed the students themselves. It was inappropriate but people can express themselves inappropriately in many mediums. It happens on ZN as well. This argument is why ZipsNation should stay away from political arguments and concentrate on all things UA. It would be nice if the moderators would set some guidlines on posts and start locking threads that get out of hand. IMO YOMV
  10. http://www.akronnewsnow.com/print.asp?ID=8766http://www3.uakron.edu/nmc/plan/goals.htmlThere was also a ABJ article on the subject but you need to pay for archived stories. This is the reality of an arena. If built, there is an agreement to build it downtown.
  11. Correct. I SHOULD have said, can you imagine a front FOUR of Sewell, Bain, Henderson and Tonga! The Purple People Eaters, Steel Curtain, and Fearsome Foursome might have a little company First off Henderson and Tonga will be true freshman. They will not come in right away and dominate. So they may redshirt.Next year I will expect more from them. Bain hasn't played in 2 years. We don't know what to expect their.Don't forget Harvey, Rash, Hazime, Davis and Marcoux. These guys were all Freshman last year. They all have a year under their belt now and should be much better. If all of these guys stay healthy and stay elegible, I expect to see a dominating line in 2010 and beyond. At this point I would settle for effective.
  12. Time to lock this thread. People get mad and it isn't relevant to this forum. Moderators?

  14. Be happy they didn't. I am.

  16. Cleveland State or the Browns? He must mean the Browns.
  17. And we still need to wait for the Syracuse and E. Michigan games. What can't they decide?? Let's assume Syracuse is trying to get the game off the air and Akron is looking at long term weather maps for game conditions.

  20. Huge effort, thanks. One would think the Athletic Department would have this worked out.
  21. Will this game be on Comedy Central? I went to the game in LA last year and tOSU was laughable at best. Literally, USC fans were laughing at them while watching them play. You certainly are a globe trotter. Please continue to keep us informed of all your travel. Buckzip, the serve is in your court!
  22. They had one chance to get it right. From the start!
  23. That would be Mack. I'm sure he had input from others but the buck stops with him.
  24. Green chemistry and biomimicry science making gains at The University of Akron? Looks like the school is joining the Green transformation -- and hopefully leading the way. Are they teaching undergrads these principals, I hope? They will be the basic fabric of the engineer's toolkit in the not very distant future. Any engineers wondering about this should start with the work of Michael Braungard and McDonough Design Chemistry. Required reading is Braungart and Will McDonough's "Cradle to Cradle" if you haven't already read it. Cheers. I have a copy on my coffee table.
