  1. Nice article on stadium in West Side Leader.http://www.akron.com/akron-ohio-sports-news.asp?aID=6480What's missing is a big The University of Akron lettering.Link to stadium upgrades across the country.http://uwfootball.blogspot.com/2008/02/stadium-race.html
  2. Last night and again this morning work continues on the roof of our infamous stairwells.
  3. I inquired about the flag situation and got a prompt reply from the athletic department:There will be three flag poles installed soon in the landscaping just north of the North End Zone Building. The flags will include the American flag, State of Ohio flag and The University of Akron flag. The design will be similar to the flagpole layout at Buchtel Hall and at Buchtel Commons on the east side of campus. Paul HammondAssociate Athletics Director for Facilities and OperationsThe University of AkronStopped on campus and walked around the stadium this morning. The cement base and lighting are in place and a large box and long tube were nearby on the access street. The flags will be on the outside fence area between the two bomb shelters (stairwells). I assume the box has all the extra pieces to mount and display the flags. They were power washing the east stands. Finishing touches. :wave:Now located on sidewalk and visible in cam 3.
  4. This information has been out, unless I've had a deja vu moment, and as impressive as it is, we will return to the pack after they remove this time period from the comparisons. It certainly is not a sustainable plan and any arena will need other forms of investment considering the UA debt burden.
  5. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news...p&type=lgnsOregon running back suspended for the season. I'm surprised so many ZN members think this was somehow justified. Was he provoked, yes, was there trash talk, most likely. If this had been a Can't player hitting a Zips player doing the same thing, would you all think it was justified? This action should never be justified or tolerated and I'm impressed with Oregon for doing the right thing. Now will Boise suspend Hout for his part? Time will tell. I would suspend him two games for his lack of sportsmanship and intelligence.A longer story now says Hout will not be suspended. He gets a chit chat with the coach. That's disappointing.
  6. As if that were necessary ...........................
  7. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/boxs...id=200909030112Just looked at the box score and it shows Blount had eight carries for -5 yards. That includes a ten yard gain! He had no where to go but off.
  8. Rough crowd! You do realize I was just using the home win streak as an EXAMPLE of Boise St's "winning" ways. Besides, Cap'n and company are going to be making so much noise that Happy Valley WILL be the Zips home tomorrow I do, hence the wink! No harm, no foul.
  9. http://www.ohio.com/news/break_news/57264662.htmlLooks like a solid player and quality person.
  10. Well capacity is 32,000, so that's about all you can squeeze into Bronco Stadium. The 34,127 was a record crowd there (Wiki Link). They have plans to expand to 50,000.Wiki LinkMy observation centers on the capacity of Bronco Stadium vs. the Info .. they're not sitting on a gold mine of 50K paid attendance to accelerate their rise to the top levels of the FBS. They've only been D1-A / FBS since 1996. It is the only game in town, I get that. But if it can happen there .. it can happen here. The Zips stadium is better .. for both the fans and players. B) Go Zips!!A packed Info will certainly hace a "big time" feel to it. The hardest part of the Boise St emulation is the success on the field (FIFTY straight home wins!!). There's no better time to start than tomorrow.Of course, as hard as it will be to get that home win tomorrow, I"m all for it!
  11. It didn't take long to point out a bad idea without severe penalties.
  12. Punk from Oregon runs mouth before game, punk from Boise throws it in his face, Oregon player melts down. It doesn't matter what was said, you can't do this, ever! The Artest impersonation after the punch was far worse, in my opinion, and will cause him to get a much longer suspension than the sucker punch. They both hurt their teams but the Oregon player hurt his team even more. He will be suspended and he was a big part of their running attack last year. Didn't look like a tooth, doubtful he said good game, and he didn't "hit" the Oregon player on the shoulder. That's how I saw it.
  13. I'm not the least bit interested in what jupitertoo thinks of ZN members or my Alma Mater. He has an inferiority complex personally and professionally. I have no doubt that OU has some very good programs. Engineering is not one of them. Engineering at OU has suffered a huge black eye with it's 20+ year cheating scandal that he dismisses so callously. That should never be used to impress others as to your schools strengths. Akron has a beautiful on campus stadium, a state of the art recreation center, 500 million investment in new buildings and infrastructure, beautifully landscaped campus, and is located in an area with an abundance of activities from the biking and hiking trails, lakes, theaters, outdoor music pavilions, professional sports teams, bars, restaurants, and micro-breweries to name a few. We can also do this at a stones throw. Save all your pent up frustration and belligerent tone for whatever OU forum there might be. It's also quite thoughtful of you to point out grammatical errors. After all, it's much more important than plagiarism!
  14. You mean this one?!That's the one! What a putz! Thanks ZW.
  15. Chris Wells is from Akron and went to Garfield High School. Javon Ringer is the younger brother of Jerrell Ringer who played at the University of Akron. We also played Wisconsin last year so we have P.J. Hill covered too. Thanks for the advice.
  16. Tried to find the melt down video of Bud Poliquin (Post-Standard) saying Akron, c'mon Akron but it seems to have disappeared.
  17. http://www.syracuse.com/slideshows/080908_AKRON.ssfI promise this is my last reference to the victory over the Orange, but I just couldn't help myself from one last slice of tasty schadenfreude, courtesy of the depressed Orange nation. Besides, who can resist any show with Zippy as a frontliner?Doom in the Dome --------------------johnnyzip84 aka OBC Mug #91Sorry jz84, couldn't resist.
  18. Looked at the Sirius-XM broadcasts for those with no other alternative and they do not have our game. They do have the Minnesota - Syracuse game on Sirius 127 with a Syracuse call at noon for those interested in a future BCS opponent. Indiana is not listed.
  19. I think the Zips team will represent your school and you fans very well. Look for the first half to be close. The Penn State bench, unfortunately for Akron, is much deeper, talent-wise, than that of Akron. That will show in the second half.......... Unfortunately for the Lions, they weren't able to overcome their first half deficit and lose to The University of Akron Zips 35-27.
  20. The UA v. Penn St. game is the feature Big 10 game on the network We will be seen in 42 states. That's a whole lot of exposure and will go a long way in legitimizing our football program with a great game. The channel lineup is: DTV 610 or 610HD Dish 439 or 9500HD TWC 77 or 433 HDhttp://www.bigtennetwork.com/gamefinder/index.htmlLook at that map. It's UA light pole blue. Go Zips!
  21. I agree totally. I don't think it is too much to expect graduates of a university to wear Dockers and a golf shirt to a University event. The cost isn't even very steep all things considered.Everyone wants a big time program. With a big time program comes big time costs. Welcome to big time college football in a big time stadium. The first ever Wake Forest game I went to I wore a t-shirt and crappy shorts and felt out of place because everyone was dressed so much better. I had to go out and buy a nice WF golf shirt and wear better shorts to fit in. That is what a college football game should look like in the adult section. Now everyone go out and buy a UofA golf shirt to wear to the football games. Do any of your posts not include a Wake Forest reference? Don't use invite on the paperwork. It is a fundraiser and trying to call it anything but fundraiser is disingenuous.
  22. It's no joke. You've been invited. Perhaps they should have left off that word. Most invites don't come with a bill. Call it a fund raiser, that's what it is.
