I'm affraid that this is not an innocent question to be asked just one hour after Charlie's worst 2 series. But anyways, Luke got a stronger arm but Charlie is a local kid and he plays for the local team... I mean, come on.

Man ! that trip of ours to mount pleasant won't be as easy as i thought !and yeah too bad for the mac, it doesn't look like any MAC team is going to beat an OOC opponent.

Nice plates rowdyzip !

I'll be very disappointed if we don't !

seriously what is going on?can all three people be smoking stuff? or is there something missing ? I know Can't state fans and they don't even expect winning the conference...

It is true that Akron is competing with OSU for both fan support and recruits. But again, when OSU is playing Michigan or NW or Illinois etc... i don't expect ohioans to root against OSU not because it is OSU but because it is the best team in the state. However, it is so irritating to walk on (akron's) campus and run into people wearing OSU gear, even in athletic events. Listen to this:Last year, i was at the M soccer game when we beated OSU 3-0, and there was a guy near me who was wearing OSU gear. I wasn't too irritated because i thought he was an OSU fan or alum or whatever coming to see his team. When the zips scored, he was happy and screaming "go zips" . I lost my cool then and told him what a frontrunner he was and how he is unloyal etc... to my surprise, he said that he was a zips fan and cheering Akron all the way and he even showed me his zipcard His argument was simply that he is a student and that he cannot afford buying multiple gears so he only bought one shirt and one hat (obviously OSU's) and that he wears them in every athletic event he attends (zips, indians, browns, hoban etc...)It is also true that the business owners, (in most cases) do not give a damn about either OSU or the zips, and that they only care about their businesses. So if it wasn't that the majority of the bars customers are OSU fans they wouldn't have them on the big screen. It is our role as zips fans to make our presence felt. When you go to the bar you have to ask to see the zips game on the big screen. When you go to the mall, or walmart or anywhere and go into a store to find them selling all OSU, big ten, even Texas and ND apparatus and nothing zips related whatsoever, do not turn away and leave. Let them hear it, tell them that you wanted to buy zips stuff and that you couldn't find it so that they understand that they are losing business. And last but not least, the main thing is that we keep telling our friends and relatives about the zips and convice them to attend games and hoping that the teams will keep winning may be one day the people in Columbus will be wearing zips stuff.

Thanks a lot for the info. I am a student but i can drive to fairlawn and watch the game at the winking lizard. It seems that they are the only bar that supprt zips athetics around here so i think that i would go spend my money over there.
-
Nobody would want to pay for it........There will be 50 bars around Akron with the ability to get ESPNU. Winking Lizard is one, BW3 is another, Jillians is another, Damons is another, Gipettos (sp?) at Chapel Hill is another.......... GP1 are you saying that those places have it or they could have it but they don't want to pay for it ? i am confused.
-
I am not too worried about PSU, i can get ESPN2 at home. The problem is in the second game. Who the hell gets ESPNU ? the university should provide some big screen arrangement.

Through a connection with the Office of International Programs at the University, i do some volunteer work to help newcoming international students get settled. Amongst the things i do is to help them find walking-distance housing around the university.I have been doing that job for the last 4 years... this is the first time i hear a landlord saying: "Sorry, we are rented out." !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are you kidding me ? If you walk around campus in Sumner, sherman, grant, caroll, buchtel, brown etc... you name it, students are all over the place more than ever. I think that the university area is attracting more students compared with other years... I don't know if the area has improved or the campus or may be it is only because of the gas prices but i am hoping that if the dorms house 3,500 students and if another 3,500 live within a walking distance, the campus should be more alive which should reflect on the student participation in the athletic events...Let's hope.

Even when we play this type of "supposedly guarranteed" games like Buffalo and Can't.I don't see why would the players not play to their maximum potential. For one, whatever the score is, you can always score more. and second, they can use it to improve their overall statistics. The same when we used to play the so called "impossible games" in the past, even if you are losing by 4 TD in the fourth quarter, go out and do your best.

What the HECK happened?!?!?
Valpo Zip replied to AkronURocks's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
any one knows the score of today's game ? It is scheduled at noon so it should be over by now. -
I am sure cicny get their share of attention from local channels in the SW ohio area, same for Ohio in the SE and toledo & BG in the NW. Only we are forgotten in the NE.

I know that people who already have plans for the day might not change their plans but they might include the zips in their plans for the next game. And the main people that are targeted in this idea are not those who have plans but those who are like:"What am i going to do in this boring saturday afternoon?" and then when they hear the noise in the street and feel that something big is happening in their city, they might decide to be part of it.
-
I was thinking of a good way to make sure that the whole akron area is rocking and rolling (the way it should be) every time there is a Zips home game.Is it possible to organize a group of cars with huge zips flags and stickers all over the cars to tour the city and the neighbour cities (cuyahoga falls, stow, fairlawn, tallmadge etc...) ?This way we make sure that every one in this area gets to know that there is a game today and may be seeing the students in the street making some noise will pump some adrenaline through their veins and makes them go to the RB.What do you guys think ? is there any legal issue with that ?

Thanks for the name calling !No one is bitching about anything but i belive that we have the rights to say that things were not the way we wish don't we ?About the game, even if the zips didn't lose the game and even if they won by 10, when i see a subpar team, i would come and say that they didn't play good soccer.I know this is the first game, believe me i am faaar from giving up on the team, and i will be the first one on those bleachers every day there is a game... I was just hoping that the team would capitalize more on the great fan turnout and the whole environement that was set for the cup.

Allow me to respectfully disagree with you here. The zips didn't look too good to me and i am affraid that Ken Lolla will be badly missed here. Our midfield looked very bad and the balls seemed to be going all the way from Evan Bush (GK) to the offense without going through the midfield. Geir Nheym seemed unable to put the ball in the back of the net. Sinisia Ubiparipovich seemed to be the only confident and comfortable player... I didn't get the chance to see any freshman. The whole thing was very nice, the soccer fest starting at 5:00 and the tailgating area and everything looked awesome and the whole campus was different. Around 2000 people were in the field... too bad they left disappointed and very wet.

Other than Nevada, every team on this list seems beatable and the schedule is not too challenging. That's fine because no matter who we play, as long as we win the MAC tournament (which we should) we will go dancing and that's the big deal.

Last year, i attended every single men's basketball home game and i travelled to 5 away ones beside the MAC tournament at the Q. In most of the home games, i sat with the Ak-rowdies and cheered and screamed my lungs out while a significant number of Rowdies seats were empty and so was a good part of the regular seats. The only sellout home games we had were Ohio and Can't State. What is bothering me the most is that in the last home game, (Can't State @ Akron), i went to the JAR 3 hours before the game and i had to stand in a huge line in a freezing temperature for like 40 minutes and was then told that the rowdies seats were full and that there is no seat for me I sat in the general admission area and i was looking at the people in the rowdies seats and i swear that half of them were there for the first time in the whole season (attending their first game in the season's last home game). As much as i would love our team this year to do great and as mush as i would love to see a sellout in each home game, it scares me to think that if the team does good, so many people would jump in the bandwagon and there won't be a place for loyal people anymore. I know that Matt (the rowdies' godfather) is now gone. I hope that whoever is now in charge would find a way to keep a record of the loyal rowdies who attend every single game (through the zip card swiping thing) so that when the game is sold out, those loyal people can seat in their rowdies seats rather than the gloryhunters who attend only one game.

Thanks for the link ziptrumpet. Why is Conyers listed as a sophomore ? wasn't he redshirted last year ? he didn't play at all... too bad he will only eligible for 3 years.
-
Why is it that when people talk about the backup QB, they only mention jaqueman and jackson ?Is Hakes going to be redshirted ?
-
This is why our game against them this fall is soooo important and will decide a lot of things.
-
People in the Gen Admission area will have the sun in their face. reserved seats will have the sun behind them.
-
I hate to be the one bursting the bubbles ... But why are you guys so confident that Lebron would have played at Akron ?A kid preparing himself for the pros would go to a school where he can maximize his draft value... IMHO he wouldn't geopardize being the top draft just to play at Akron.

In hoops we will. 10 years ago you would have said you'd never see a non-BCS school in the Final Four .. and the Colonial got it done this year. Gonzaga's been regularly in the top 10 over the past few years. It's bound to happen one of these days. After Laranaga broke down the door this year .. it's on! The kids being recruited to fight for playing time at a BCS school now see they can conquer all at a school like GMU. You only need 2 or 3 studs and a roster full of athletes and good defensive depth .. 13 guys. It'll get done .. and it might as well be Akron. You're selling a whole lot of hardworking coaches and players short with that sentiment. Give Keith some time. We're only heading into year 3. I love that spirit.I know that football is at the door but i already can't wait till Bball starts.
