  1. Dailey, Dawson, Reece, Wynn...5 points between them... 🤷‍♂️😥
  2. Where is the "high school line" in Ohio? Most states it's the same as NCAA, I think...
  3. Ahem! 😁🤣
  4. The first five minutes of the second half will tell the story! 😉😉 #LetsGoZips
  5. How is Akron only down 6 at the half?? That's the best thing I can say. Let's see how Groce coaches these kids at the half.
  6. Whoa, Nelly!! A 9:00 a.m. HST game on a Tuesday!?! ? Sorry, but what is it about N.Illinois that gives this team so much trouble?? Thank heavens we got 35 free throws... Oops, sorry...wrong thread. ?‍♂️?
  7. Shocked that I am the one to drop this in here at last...? But...Ives Galarcep interviewed perhaps my all-time fave from the National Champions, Z. aka Mr. Z, or in Amish Country Zarek Valentin on his excellent podcast last week. At 29, Zarek is now the Houston Dynamo player rep and on the MLSPA Ex Comm. Ives and Z discuss among other topics the All Time College Soccer Final Four team, in which the 2010 Akron squad features prominently and they mention Zarek's brother Julian's Wake Forest team and have a great college soccer discussion. Another very interesting subject brought up is that Z's international football career may not be over, as he's very interested in playing for his ancestral Puerto Rican national squad. Hope the podcast stays up for a while, in case anyone misses it. The part with Zarek lasts over 45 minutes. https://sbisoccer.com/2021/02/the-sbi-show-episode-299-with-special-guest-zarek-valentin/amp?__twitter_impression=true
  8. Mekhi Lairy is just an inch taller than Lil Loren. The broadcast crew at least gave that he was runner-up for Indiana Mr Basketball. Look out for the sweaters to contend next year. I noticed with 5 or 6 minutes to play, I believe Lairy had 6 or 7 more points than LCJ, but ended up getting outscored by...25-24 IIRC. Maishe Daily, with 8 points and 5 assists in 25 minutes gets the Unheralded Player of the Game Award. He provides a calming influence on his teammates, especially Ali who wanted to get after a Miami player late in the action. Maishe talked to him and cooled his heels.
  9. Sweaters shooting 55.2% from field. I say we take them out of that shape in the second half. Akron by 10. Please!? ?
  10. The Zips Basketball Weekly (JG Show w/Joe Dunn) used to be broadcast nationally on one of the Fox regional networks. Haven't seen it here since 2019. I wonder if Fox still picks it up -- they have a lot of coaches shows.
  11. I hope that doesn't happen -- and have heard no mention. The NIT is an opportunity for mid-majors like Akron to make an impact against "name" schools, as Temple, Fla St., Arkansas and Houston have learned. This year's event, with no attendance (or very limited) might give mid-majors the rare chance to host a high major, since gate receipts don't count. I know some like to diss it, but I enjoy the NIT for having quality competition and fewer blowouts than the NCAA.
  12. Yes, recruited by Dambrot out of...Paintsville? Verballed originally to WVa. Huggins pulled the offer I think, and Keith grabbed him. Red-shirted at Duquesne before ending up in BG.
  13. Did anyone else see in the BeeGees v Brimfield St. match, they brought the "Big Cat" in the game for about 60 seconds? I hate to say it, but that was 60 seconds too long! ? He has NO athleticism whatsoever! Sad!
  14. That's Dakich for ya! I almost cried when the broadcast began and it wasn't Reghi and Windom. Or ANYONE and Windom!!
  15. It's good for the Zip in Paradise. CBSSN too (and I get 5 different PAC12 Net channels!) I just hope they let Jackie Windom take the talent chair today. She really covers well for the irey Reghi player.
  16. Was he better than Pete Franklin? Lee Hamilton? ?
  17. This game is just what we don't want. A SHOOTOUT!
  18. We need to declare human rights for Summit Lake. I like their Mayor Kapsukiewicz! ?
  19. Any idea if any of the four road games will get national TV coverage? I know telecommunications infrastructure in the greater Shalersville region is subpar, but I think Toledo is joining the modern world...rockets and all that stuff.
  20. What about AFTER this schedule? There's no MAC Tournament indicated... or NCAA Tournament.
  21. That's a fascinating eventuality! Will this be a continuing trend? Wonder if Wynn earn this in practice, or Marshall is in the dog house...
  22. Good analysis. I share your concerns. Of course the fact that coach Kest's assistant got this job despite the program's severe decline from its MAC champion team is evidence enough that the resources simply aren't there for any upgrade that the university could provide. I have a level of confidence that they can become a little more competitive as the group matures and talent improves slightly -- Jackson has been a pretty good recruiter and recruiting has improved somewhat since the late Kest years. I'm a big fan of the women's game and will continue following and cheering on this team. Thanks for your support of the WBB team.
  23. For those who don't regularly follow MAC women's hoops, the women's competition is at a considerably higher level than the men's has achieved in recent years. There simply are no breaks in the schedule -- even more so with the rise of Bowling Green and those at the bottom. Coach Jackson's team has not gone backwards, the rest of the league has just stepped over the Zips. I don't have the RPI or national rankings available (does anyone?), but I would venture the bottom of the league -- us, NIU, the non-central Michigan directionals are very close to #200, while in MAC men's BB that's about the mid-point of the league. It's not going to be easy to become more competitive in MAC play, but what I've heard about the 2021 recruiting class sounds upbeat and I'm remaining hopeful about the team's prospects. There's a guard from Indy coming in who appears to be at a level that would make her one of the conference's top newcomers in next year's frosh class. Keep the faith!
  24. (14 rebounds) I don't know how they missed him. He was First Team all-Lake Effect Conference, after all. ?‍♂️?
  25. Nope, Im 8000 miles away on the Island of O'ahu. Only get to see games on the screen.
