  1. If I read the rules right, that may be part of the reason they said the new stadium would be 25k (30k seat stadium = must avg 15k attendance, under 30k seats the rule would not apply) and expandable to 40k or whatever. If you get to the point where you need to expand, the 15k attendance requirement is moot.
  2. OK, I'll give you that the major sports (Browns, Indians and Cavs) haven't, but the Cleveland Force won a MISL title a few years back, the Akron Racers won the title a year ago, and the Akron Aeros also won their title a year or so ago.
  3. I never did get my season ticket package, just the simple flyer. I ended up calling in my order while on the way to vacation last week. I wonder if they just aren't starting to work on them too late and have to rush and that's how all the mistakes are being made (no time to check... off to the press!). I will say that they are friendly about the ordering, etc. I just wish they got things going earlier.
  4. I'm planning on it.
  5. see thread --> ZipsNation.org - ESPN360 link thread
  6. And the band played on... run it back one more time for "Chief"!
  7. Anyone know when tickets go on sale? I've been a season ticket holder for years and haven't received anything from the ticket office yet but during the UA-UC football game I heard Steve French mention that they were on sale. Other than posting prices, there's nothing on gozips.com to actually say they are selling them.
  8. As a point of info to Ballingirl's post, the RB used to sell beer and went dry in the 80's about the time that the drinking age went from 18 to 21. IMHO, student attendance was better (especially Greek) before it was dry. I can remember them bringing in kegs "disguised" so they could drink in the end zone bleachers.
  9. Scott Johnson is still the head trumpet guy there and he still plays with the Paragon Brass. I see him mostly when Paragon comes to play for our church services.Galen Kerriker (sp?) is the marching band director and Bob Jorgenson is the Dir. of Bands.I'm definately looking forward to more fun with the "rookie" band and seeing the old timers again! Hopefully we'll have better weather than last year."Run it back, rookies!!!!!!!!"
  10. Hey Alumni !!! It's that time of year again, it's time for Alumni Band 2006. Even if you are not planning on marching/playing this year, still plan on coming for the game to visit with your former friends. The past few years we have had over 50+ players, and even more alumni in the stands. The past few years have had great weather, and are typically a "Blast". “Chief” will be back again in 2006. http://www.zipsalumniband.com/alumniband.htm If you did not receive the Alumni Band 2006 registration form in the mail, so here's a link to it... It's not to late to attend... http://www.zipsalumniband.com/images_alumn.../alumni2006.pdf What’s New at ZipsAlumniBand.com· New Audio Files from 1980 Band ‘O’ Rama (Thanks to Ken Ertel)· Alumni Band Images from 2005· Remember When Updates If you can't attend, drop by http://www.zipsalumniband.com/ and update your information (Roster), or send your favorite "Remember When/Memories" to us @ info@zipsalumniband.com ... 11. I wonder if burning Aaris Reed's redshirt was a good idea or not. The way Walker was running most of the game and the success of the passing game, I can't see why we couldn't have finished the game without him. Granted it got him some real game experience, but I like having some redshirt guys that become 5th year seniors. Maybe JD's recruiting class is strong enough in RB's that it won't matter.
  12. OK, I'll admit that the ABJ does cover UA and Can't State and that occasionally both get some mention on TV news (usually only when they are in the tournament), but I would like to see more consistency. EVERY OSU game gets mentioned. Why can't they mention EVERY UA and (I hate to say this) every Can't State game? I watched the TV news the other night after we beat NTSU and there was no mention of it on two different news stations; not even a quick "Akron beat North Texas in their home opener this evening". Before the game, I hear radio sports news and they mention the OSU game coming up this weekend, but fail to mention the local teams' games (and UA bought advertising on one of them!). All I'm asking for is a little recognition: if they are going to mention OSU, they need to also at least mention the local schools.
  13. Any chance anyone can get the Cleveland TV news to help pimp the game? Cleveland and Akron radio also? With many people not getting the "local" newspaper, this might be the only way they will know it is happening.I'd love to see it continue for the rest of the season too!UA =
  14. The sign at the entrances showing what was not allowed in the stadium had umbrellas taped over. I suspect that they would rather people have to spread out to see around people with umbrellas rather than not attend.
  15. That's where the "multi-use facility" and the possible combination with retail/restaurant would really help. I hope they can get a good design that incorporates these and be able to get a nice lease for the space. Also, increased sales of Zips gear (and more new availble and varied items) should be able to help if we keep winning in all sports.
  16. I disagree. Attendance in the late 70's/early 80's was much better than the past 15 years. The bowl was filled with 30-40k people for the annual "Acme-Zip" game to start the season. I think we need to have at least the same size as the Rubber Bowl to start and be expandable to some larger size, whatever that may be based on future goals/conference requirements/etc.
  17. The article was on the front page, bottom left (I actually bought one today!), then the story continued on pg A9.
  18. Not a bad idea, but you would also have to remove the metal supports that I believe are concreted in (not cheap & easy like unbolting the broken seats). You would end up either standing the whole game or sitting on the concrete steps that remain (if the concrete doesn't fall through either  )
  19. With the loss last week to who most of the community sees as a nobody and the current weather forecast, I'm predicting less than 10k, but I hope the rain stays away and we draw 25k.
  20. After "Summa Field" is finished, I vote to replace the JAR with a facility that can handle basketball, volleyball and hockey!
  21. It'd also be great to be in some blowouts so we can get the backups some experience for next season.
  22. I was trying to listen to it on the radio. They mentioned it had been moved to ESPN2, then shortly after that it went to ESPN for the final drive. The radio (1350AM) sucked. It was dead air for the entire 96yd drive, cut to news while the game was still in progress, and on several occasions they had commercials playing at the same time as other programming. I couldn't listen to the post-game since it was multiple feeds playing simultaneously.
  23. looks like "COMLOC" is short for Comcast Local... in this case, Southfield, MI. (I clicked on the "COMLOC" link and it showed the station info)
  24. Everything I saw in lots of places was reprints of the AP story.
