  1. you guys are letting this get too far with the name calling. The band/soccer thread was one thing because there were issues with the band drowning out the chants and changing the normal soccer atmosphere we're accustomed to, but this thread is not productive at all. Instead of calling the band traitors, why not ask why this is being done and create a poll to see what others think about it?
  2. wikipedia breaks it down http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_soccer_pyramidAkron Summit Assault could play in the US Open against MLS teams if they qualify. 9 PDL teams can qualify for the US Open Cup http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Lamar_Hunt_U.S._Open_Cup
  3. I have to take issue with this statement! I am hoping and wishing that football ("soccer" for Skipzip) NEVER grows to be the type of Big Time Professional Sport that the "relevant" sports are -- and that it is never ruined the way those other sports have been ruined by "relevance", i.e., Big Money, celebrity and the swagger that those exhibition pro leagues consist of. A try out in Sporting KC is as close as TO should come to our league. We don't need that. As far as Bisbee's comment about the bigger issue being competing against international competition -- by clubs and the USA MNT, I couldn't agree more, but we can compete against the world -- some day, without developing Cristiano Ronaldos and that little man who coaches him.Nuff said? Soccer in Europe is bigger than American football in the US. I don't share the same worries as you.
  4. Akron moved down to the 3rd spot in regular season attendance average. I only updated the top 15 teams from my last pull which covers all teams up to Oct 7, so this top 15 list isn't official. But the odds of a team that was below the top 15 passing Akron with only a few games left are less than 1%. Also note that the teams that aren't highlighted still have a home game to play, which will all take place today.
  5. thats precisely my point. taking weather conditions at gametime will only show a part of the story as you have the added variable of "marquee" matchups and the playoffs. It would still be another good way to look at attendance, I was just pointing out a valid flaw in the data such considerations would produce. It is critical in this type of analysis to identify both invalid and valid flaws.comparing weather conditions would help determine your hardcore base vs casual, but I'm not interested in pulling the stats for that.
  6. Final Attendance figures for the regular season:A 1.2% increase. After all regular season games are performed, I'll update the rest of the NCAA so we can see how we compared.BTW, Akron's attendance would rank 3rd in the NASL, 4th in the USL-Pro, and 2nd in the PDL.
  7. We were spoiled last year. Overall, this has been a great year for what we lost
  8. MLS growth is a positive step towards improving that quality as it should trickle down to the youth leagues growing as well.
  9. No doubt concerning the Timbers, Whitecaps and Impact. The Cascadia Cup makes games between Vancouver, Portland an Seattle relevant regardless of records.Has Orlando been granted an expansion franchise? If not, are the Cosmos still in the running for team #20?I believe they're top of the list. check this list out for attendance, http://www.kenn.com/the_blog/?m=201110Heck, I'll just show them:It would be nice if we could get our PDL team above 200 next year. If they pulled in the numbers that UA gets, we could easily see a NASL or USL Pro team in Akron.
  10. Portland and Vancouver were great additions. Montreal will help boost it even more and so will Orlando which does extremely well for a lower division team.
  11. chants were actually really good the past few games. They started good on Wednesday but that quickly changed when the band started to play over the chants.
  12. the band and the rowdies could use some practice. The only problem is the consistency of the band showing up. If they made it a priority to come to every game, it would be worth having them. What was on display last night didn't work. They need to learn to play in between chants. Imagine if you went to an opera and the orchestra started beating on the drums real loud while a song is being sang. The issues with the band syncing with the rowdies is worth discussion.
  13. no Bunbury? interesting
  14. of course not, but they ruined the atmosphere.
  15. attendance for this game was 0? They must have found a way to count soccer attendance for football games instead. http://gozips.com/sports/msoc/2011-12/boxs...111102_fo86.xml
  16. The samba band is one thing, but what we had today was awful. Every time a chant got started, the band kicked in and drowned out the chant. It's nice that they came out to support the soccer team but I prefer the chanting over a loud drum squad any day.
  17. I hope this loss sparks a National Title run. I was at the far corner of the field and had a good view of that goal that was disallowed. Very tough call, but I believe it was in. The foul outside the box in the 2nd half was also in the box when it happend. None of these things matter, no excuses for letting Michigan State have a chance to win this.
  18. A lot of college players already play in the PDL league.Understood, but playing as a unit, with the same coaching staff, would have its advantages. Especially if they can't camp and play exhibitions in the spring.I believe these changes are being considered because of the new $2,000 spending allowance for players. Not many colleges without women's soccer so they're looking at cost savings. I do not like it at all.
  19. Would be nice if we could get the Tetris song added to the Ak-Rowdies chant section. Also, youtube videos of each chant would be nice.
  20. We're averaging around 20 people per game, would be nice if we can break the 30's. We'll be meeting in Lot 9 around 4. There's an event up on facebook with more information http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=271575806215091This is the last regular season game, hope to see everyone there.
  21. nice find, this deserves a thread of its own
  22. Bunbury's 2 goals in the playoffs takes the goal count to 18 this season by former Zips in the MLS
  23. you vote by group so don't forget to help Bunbury even though his goal wasn't that spectacular
  24. You can vote for both here, http://www.mlssoccer.com/gotw/goty2011/round2/group5-8Nagbe has a serious chance at winning this.
