Agreed. I had my three teenage boys waiting for me in the car, when I found out not only were tickets going to be $20 a piece, but I was also going to be charged for parking. That's $70 before we got in the door (I'm a student). Who do they think they are, the New England Patriots? $10 is not too much to charge to attend a college football game. If you want to park for free, drive up and down the side streets looking for a spot in front of a house. $20 is a reasonable price to pay to attend a college football game and watch a BCS team play. When is the last time you paid to attend an NFL game? GA seats at the Big Dialer are similar to a club level seat at an NFL stadium. Those run in excess of $100ea plus parking. You saved around $400 by going to the Zips game. Like I've said here many times now..... We are a I-AA school for many reasons. Fan attitudes about what prices should be paid to watch a D-1A game are strange at best. When I see a fan say $70 is too much to watch a D-1A football game with four other humans, I know we can never make it in D-1A. While you enjoy paying your D-1A prices with only 3000-5000 people to watch a Zips game, our friends in Can't will be paying $5 with over 16,000 others to watch the Golden Flushes. They'll be laughing at us all year. Being a D1-A program should have nothing to do with ticket prices. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Prices need to reflect demand. The demand isn't high enough to charge the prices UA is charging and they'll make less money overall unless they drop the prices to bring in more people. 15,000 people paying $10 a ticket and $5 to park will bring in more money than 5,000 people paying $20 a ticket and $10 to park. It doesn't matter if it's D1-A or D1-AA, prices need to reflect demand!!

I actually saw a lot of people tailgating that weren't going to the game because they didn't want to pay $20 per person. I found out my student ID still works for the games, very tempted to never buy a ticket again and just start using that. $10 for parking + $40 for me and my son to get into the game, I miss the good ol' Rubber Bowl days. $50 for just 2 people, I expect more than what I saw today!! I understand the new stadium needs to be paid for, but it wont be paid for with empty seats. It costs more than double to go to a Zips football game than it does to go to an Aeros game, it's $18(10+8) for me and my son and parking after 6pm is free downtown.

Not speaking out now when you know what we saw today is what we'll see for the next couple of years is irrational. Keeping the football team in the Info is irrational. What's rational is letting the football team play in the new soccer stadium and letting the soccer team play in the Info.

I feel your pain. $10 for parking was too much. We have soccer to support. Does anyone tailgate for soccer?

Not sure if everyone agrees with this but we really should try to mimic Boise State's program from top to bottom. Bring in one of their assistants to enlighten our program. Recruiting for Notre Dame is nothing similar to recruiting for Akron. This hire never made sense to me but it's not like I have any financial power to do anything about it. Maybe one day if one of my businesses makes me rich, I'll threaten to end sponsorships when they make bad decisions.

You take a coach from a struggling program and put him into a struggling program and you get what you saw today. I would be a lot more positive if we would have hired the punting coach from Boise State than what we have. I know he doesn't deserve all the blame, Nicely was passing very poorly today. Not feeling very positive at all about Zips football for the next few years. On a brighter note, tailgating was great. Might as well beat the horse while it's still alive.

I am absolutely amazed by the fan support and the amount of content there is on youtube for our soccer team. If you have some free time, check out youtube and search for Akron soccer. It's impressive, keep up the good work!! Here's some channels to get you started: http://www.youtube.com/user/plowerman78 http://www.youtube.com/user/cdbtown

I haven't even purchased tickets yet. I looked today saw that they're $25.50 on ticketmaster for the Syracuse game, yikes!!

even though the ABJ is doing a horrible job covering the biggest sporting event in the world, they interviewed Caleb Porter about the US victory. I enjoyed his thoughts. http://www.ohio.com/sports/zips/97054619.html

Vuvuzelas and the AK-Rowdies
bobbyake replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I can not stand hearing the vuvuzelas constantly during the World Cup. I hope it doesn't become a tradition here. -
EA sucks. I doubt Akron had anything to do with it at all. They don't even make the game for the Wii. When they did in 09, it was worse than a gamecube/ps2 version.

Jake, I'm confused. You've never seen children at real college events? Maybe it's time you start going to college sports games.

I brought my 5 year old son up there with me and had a great time. There were ton of activities for all ages and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. What I liked most about Springfest is that you had to sign in and get a wrist band. That makes it easier for the police to keep the scum away. There was well over 1000 people there, so the turnout was very good. Jake, continue to bash it all you want but there was absolutely nothing wrong with Springfest. If you didn't go, why are complaining about it? Is it because you're salty you made a post betting against this event, and you lost?

The experience was very nice for my 4 yr old son, girlfriend, and I. The atmosphere was amazing and the stadium is more amazing than what I thought it would be. I need to go back for Grad school just so I can be a student again.

Instead of replying 3 times in a row, try using the edit button. Also, could you cut down what you've just said and make it simple?Bringing students downtown is good for both students and Downtown Akron. I understand this is hard for you to see so I'll try to explain.Good for students: Downtown Akron provides the best night life for students in Akron. Some people like the Valley but nothing compares to downtown. Having Downtown Akron so close to campus means less distance to travel, easier access to entertainment, and the chance to develop business contacts (I've met plenty at the Barley House). I guess you could argue that the bars on Exchange street can provide a nightlife, but they're not as nice as downtown. Good for Downtown: More students are spending money, better energy, and provides future business as students will continue to come once they're alumni.I'm having trouble thinking of how it's Bad for students, and bad for downtown. I'm not going to search your rant for ideas either. If you want to help me understand your point, make it simple and easy to understand.

Not sure if this University can afford to pay more.
-
Now that I'm alumni, I actually have to consider buying things like this. I will miss going to sporting events for free.
-
I fail to see where Jake is coming from in his arguement. Bringing students downtown is good for downtown. I, and so many other CBA students have given downtoan Akron so much business because it's so close to class. Is that why you're upset about expanding west? More students will hang out downtown because of this?

I can't believe I missed all this action. The game against OSWho would have been nice to see.

Stadium Mock-up from Osborne Design
bobbyake replied to Z.I.P.'s topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Can we stay on topic here? We've called them worse than Columbus State before. People call other colleges by other names as well on a regular basis and this forums edits the word K ent to save Can't State.I'm not sure how I feel about this stadium proposal yet, I think this soccer program deserves the best from the University considering how well they've performed in the past. Some of the games I've been to were standing room only, so I look forward to having room to sit with my 4yr old. -
I was browsing the Tube and found this . Check it out, it's very impressive.

Whether it was started by his girlfriend or not means little. Wish should all wish him luck. I sat next to him in my Business Policy class and graduated with him. He's a great guy and I wish him luck. Nothing wrong with hoping the big league takes one of our Zips.
